    See details

At Blaisdell Concert Hall in Honolulu, the Pan Pacific Convention and the FWD 80th Anniversary Fall Convention present a full barbershop experience with contests, performances, and community. Established in 1994 to bring the contest and convention format closer to choruses in New Zealand, Australia, and Hawaii, the gathering has expanded into an international draw, with regular participation from Japan and the West Coast of the United States in addition to the original regions. Beyond the stage, the Hawaii setting offers rich cultural and outdoor experiences, from visits to historic sites such as Pearl Harbor and Iolani Palace to snorkeling, surfing lessons, rainforest waterfall hikes, tastings of global cuisines, and opportunities to learn about hula and lei making at luaus, or simply time to relax in the trade winds. Event headquarters is the Hilton Hawaiian Village Waikiki Beach Resort, a 22-acre oceanfront property with multiple towers, more than 18 dining options, over 90 shops, a five acre saltwater lagoon, several pools with waterslides, and weekly fireworks on Friday evenings. A special rate of 209 USD per night plus 10 USD per day, before taxes, has been arranged for attendees and is available for a window that begins three days prior and extends three days after the convention. The daily resort charge includes WiFi, cultural activities, morning exercise classes, outdoor movies, discounts on a catamaran adventure sail and an elite beach package, savings at Reyn Spooner Shop and the spa retail, reduced rates for Waikiki Beach activities and services, an offer at Waikiki Aquarium, and a photo session.

The Epic Tale of the Ramayana

Hawaii Theatre, 1122 N Bethel St, Honolulu · verified Oct 5
    See details

Presented by Hawaii Theatre in collaboration with Still & Moving Meditation Fellowship and Still & Moving Community Center, this production brings a beloved Diwali tradition to a major stage. For nearly twenty years, the Still & Moving community has enlivened the ancient Indian epic of the Ramayana, growing from a small gathering of teachers and students into a full theatrical experience with dozens of performers from age 5 through 85. The story follows Prince Ram and Princess Sita in exile, Sita’s abduction by the ten-headed demon king Ravana, and the rescue mounted by Ram and the devoted monkey warrior Hanuman, celebrating the victory of good over selfishness and light over darkness. The tale is expressed through many movement forms rather than a single style, including Bharatanatyam and other Indian classical dances, hula, aerial arts, belly dance, samba, Argentine tango, and Brazilian capoeira, performed by Still & Moving’s teachers, students, and staff. Narration supports many first-time actors so they can fully embody their roles without memorizing lines, creating a communal offering where many backgrounds tell one universal story. Stepping into the Hawaiʻi Theatre, a venue with more than a century as a gathering place for Honolulu arts and culture, marks a new chapter for this celebration. A pre-show talk offers context on the tale and its traditions, followed by the performance. Keiki tickets are available for children ages 12 and under.

Godfrey brings quick wit, spot-on impressions, and an irreverent streak shaped by a Chicago upbringing and an early love of classic comedy films. What began with imitating college football teammates grew into a career spanning film, television, and acclaimed live shows. On screen, he appeared as himself in Zoolander and delivered turns in Johnson Family Vacation, The Cookout with Queen Latifah, Phat Girlz starring Monique, and Soul Plane alongside Snoop Dogg. He became widely recognized as the face of a national 7UP campaign. Television highlights include Late Night with Jimmy Fallon, a Comedy Central hour titled Godfrey: Black By Accident, a recurring role on FX’s Louie, the lead in the FX pilot Bronx Warrants, development of an animated pilot for FOX based on his act, and regular appearances on Shaquille O’Neal’s Upload on TruTV. On the road, his one-man show The Godfrey Complex made a splash at the Just For Laughs festival in Montreal, after which GQ predicted a rapid rise. He continues to host and headline premier clubs across both coasts, including The Comedy Cellar, the Comic Strip, Caroline’s Comedy Club, the Laugh Factory, and the Improv in Los Angeles.
