FilmScene in the Park: 13 Going on 30
Experience 13 Going on 30 with FilmScene in the Park, an outdoor movie series produced in collaboration with the Iowa City Parks and Recreation Department. Screenings in this series take place at Chauncey Swan Park.
Chauncey Swan ParkMexican Cooking with the Three Sisters
At the Coralville Public Library, this hands-on cooking series explores traditional Mexican dishes through the three crops known as the three sisters, using the Library’s Charlie Cart, a kitchen on wheels. This session spotlights beans. Beginning with dried beans, participants learn practical ways to incorporate them into everyday meals and prepare pico de gallo and enfrijoladas. Attendees chop, mix, and sample vegetarian recipes that highlight the featured ingredient, then take home a recipe card to recreate the dishes at home. Each month in the series stands alone, and separate registration is required for each session through the Library’s website calendar. A liability form will be offered and must be completed before entry. If plans change after registering, please cancel online to open a spot for someone else. Programs hosted in partnership with local researchers, experts, and organizations do not constitute an endorsement by the Coralville Public Library or the City of Coralville.
Coralville Public LibrarySummer Handstand Series
Explore handstands in a supportive workshop series led by Mimi at Hothouse Yoga. Build strength, coordination, and confidence while developing a more comfortable relationship with being upside down. Each class breaks down key skills in an approachable way, welcoming those new to inversions as well as practitioners refining their technique. Through movement exploration, mobility drills, and targeted strength work, you will deepen body awareness and kinesthetic understanding. The series rotates through themes that include foundational alignment, spotting and assisting a partner, strength and mobility labs, and playful progressions that help you float into your handstand. Most sessions are at the Iowa City studio, with one class focused on practicing handstands with the support of a hammock at the Coralville location.
