AYC is kicking off the new season with a fall festival for children of any age. The event welcomes families connected to the church as well as those visiting for the first time. Activities and food are planned, with more details to be announced.

Trunk or Treat offers tricks and treats, games, and food in a family friendly setting. The event supports the Middle School Washington D.C. trip.

At the Chauncey Swan Parking Ramp, this open-air farmers market features fresh, homegrown produce, baked goods, handcrafted goods, plants, and flowers. Live music is part of the experience with support from sponsors, including Green State Credit Union in May, Hills Bank in August, and Walden Place Senior Living as a half season sponsor from May through July. Weekly park activities add to the atmosphere.

CrossFit Millstone hosts a Halloween morning of costumes and fitness, inviting participants to come dressed up for a friendly, community workout that keeps the focus on fun. After the workouts, the parking lot becomes a kid-friendly route where little ones visit decorated car trunks to collect candy and treats. Members can contribute by sprucing up their vehicles and bringing goodies to share. Families are welcome, and children are encouraged to wear costumes and bring their trick-or-treat bags. The aim is to fill the lot with festive displays and build a tradition for the CrossFit Millstone community.

Approximately 1,500 rainbow trout will be released into Discovery Pond, and spectators can watch the quick stocking process. It happens fast, so arriving a little early helps if you want to see the action. Among the fish are 100 with tags, and the first five tagged trout that are caught and turned in will receive a prize. Tagged fish can be shown to a Park Ranger or staff on site, or brought to the Environmental Learning Center during open hours. Anyone fishing for trout at Discovery Pond must have a valid Iowa fishing license and the trout fee. For Iowa residents, the annual license is $22 and the trout fee is $14.50. State rules apply, including a daily limit of five trout per licensed angler and a total possession limit of ten. Children under 16 may fish for trout without a license or trout fee only when with a licensed adult, and in that case they must share the adult’s daily limit. Licenses are available at the County Recorder’s office in the Admin Building, from local retailers, and online.

Mercado on Fifth in Moline hosts the 5th Annual Día de los Muertos Celebration, honoring loved ones and the traditions of this holiday while also marking 10 years of Mercado on Fifth. The celebration fills the venue with color, music, food, art, dance, and heartfelt tributes. Live entertainment features cultural performances and music. Families can enjoy kids activities, face painting, and hands-on art projects that invite learning and creativity together. Food and Mercado vendors offer delicious options while showcasing unique goods from local small businesses. El Camino de las Calaveras highlights striking Catrina and Calavera looks that celebrate culture, fashion, and imagination. El Panteón de Ofrendas welcomes visitors to stroll among family-created ofrendas, where flowers, candles, photographs, and personal items shape a space of remembrance and connection. A stationary parade presents vehicles and displays transformed into vibrant Día de los Muertos scenes, with candy giveaways and photo opportunities. Registration details for select components will be announced. Sponsorship opportunities are available, and contributions support Mercado on Fifth’s mission and this community tradition.

Children can create a one-of-a-kind paper pumpkin in this drop-in art activity. With a variety of materials available, they can explore different textures and colors while designing their pumpkin. The activity is free with museum admission.

Celebrate Día de los Muertos through art, music, dance, food, and community. Visit the “Mexican Roots” exhibition, admire Catrinas in the galleries, and take part in the Community Ofrenda honoring loved ones who have passed. Activities include crafts, face painting, and performances by Glenview Mariachi, Danza West Liberty, and Quad City Ballet Folklorico.
