Planet Arts presents a hands-on art class for ages 5 to 9 at the Willard Arts Center, built around the 2026 theme The Colorful World of Pets. Throughout the season the series explores animal-inspired art using techniques like painting, embossing, pastels, tissue paper collage, chalk, clay, monoprinting, and guided drawing, with subjects ranging from iguanas and dogs to canaries, fish, horses, snakes, cats, and guinea pigs.

Experience an evening devoted to Idaho’s bats at the zoo after dark. Bat specialists from BYU-Idaho and Idaho National Laboratory share insights into local species, why they matter, and how the zoo contributes to habitat protection and ongoing study. The program begins in the William J. Maeck Education Center with hands-on activities and a brief presentation. After sunset, continue with a tour of the grounds to observe nocturnal animals and the wild bats that visit the zoo to feed. Interactive displays and activities are planned for all ages. Advance registration is required, and on-site sales are not available. Admission is 6 dollars per person for ages three and up, with free entry for children two and under.

At Cafe et Amour, kids ages 7 and up can take a step-by-step painting class taught by a certified art teacher. The session focuses on a rainforest theme while creating a sloth on an 8x8 canvas with acrylics, and all supplies are included. Wear clothing that can get a little messy. Parents are welcome to paint too, and no experience is required. The cost is $15 per person.
