These free Irish sessions are presented by Robert’s Westside and hosted by Quin Cunningham and Miriam Attia. The band sets up on the deck in front of the window, and tips are appreciated. This Oak Park djembe class is led by M. Taylor, a senior instructor with the Tam Tam Mandingue Djembe Academy and a djembe specialist since 1994. Participants study proper hand technique and timing through traditional rhythms and also explore the oral history connected to each piece, including its purpose, ethnic group, and location, with maps used to support discussion. Taylor was tasked by his Master Drummer teachers to serve as a messenger of tradition, and that focus is reflected throughout the curriculum. Instruction also includes the dunun bass drums, and dununs are provided. Djembes can be rented for $5 per day, payable directly to Taylor. Tuition is $20 per class, with cash preferred, and rates are negotiable for those experiencing financial hardship or for families with youth older than seven. No preregistration is required, and djembe rental requests should be made at least a day in advance. No prior experience is required.

FitzGeralds Sidebar presents a free night of jazz with The Andy Brown Trio, featuring Chicago guitarist Andy Brown with Greg Fishman on tenor saxophone and Jake Vinsel on bass. Brown is known for an old school jazz guitar approach and has been praised in the Chicago Tribune for depth, unpretentious style, and a focus on musical phrasing over flash. He has performed at festivals in Brazil, Europe, and Canada, and his latest recording is the 2023 release Good Atmosphere. Manion is known for live-fire cooking and South American influences, has earned multiple Chef of the Year nominations and a recent win at Chicago’s Jean Banchet Awards, opened La Sirena Clandestina in 2012 and El Che Steakhouse & Bar in 2016, and debuted Brasero in 2024, a wood‑fired, Latin‑inspired project shaped by early years in São Paulo and travels across South America. Music comes from acclaimed singer songwriter Gia Margaret in an intimate set. After a vocal injury led her to explore instrumental, ambient‑leaning compositions on Mia Gargaret (2020) and Romantic Piano (2023), she returns to singing on Singing, her first vocal album since 2018’s There’s Always Glimmer, marked by gentle piano and meticulous detail. Both guests will also sit down with Bazer to discuss their work and their lives. The Interview Show began in 2008, appears at FitzGerald’s and The Hideout, aired for six seasons on WTTW, and has been carried nationally through American Public Television.

Robert's Westside and WBEZ Chicago present the second annual block party supporting Food Aid, with live performances, food, cocktails and a welcoming community vibe. The lineup includes High & Lonesome, Strawdaddy, Pipes, GirlCade and Rock Hands Music. Admission is free, and contributions at the entrance will help pursue a $20,000 fundraising goal for Food Aid. The organization works to prevent individuals and families from experiencing hunger, upholding food as a human right and channeling support through music and entertainment to groups addressing food insecurity. Beneficiaries include A House In Austin, Austin Eats Initiative, Best Of Proviso Township, Beyond Hunger, the Oak Park Community Fridges and Westchester Food Pantry. This gathering is open to all ages.

The group has appeared at SYMCO Weekender in Wisconsin, the Nashville Boogie, and the Ameripolitan Awards in Austin, has been featured by Bopflix on YouTube and in the UK magazine Now Dig This, has opened for Big Sandy, Wayne Hancock, Deke Dickerson, and Lee Rocker of The Stray Cats, and has toured in Europe. Their all original full length release Moonlight Madness has earned acclaim across the DJ circuit, and their live sets have been noted for high energy, grit, and lively crowd appeal. Tables can be reserved in advance, with room left for walk ins if reservations are full. Dinner can be picked up from Babygold Barbecue.
