The emphasis is on connection, friendly competition, and a welcoming atmosphere. A prize Moneyball tournament follows the open play.

poetry815 //spring 2026// Release Party and Open-Mic 🥳

Celebrate poetry815 poets as the spring 2026 anthology debuts with a release party paired with an open mic. Hosted at Womanspace of Rockford, the gathering features remarks from Fauna Lewis, founder of poetry815, along with readings by featured poets. Contributor copies and pre-orders will be ready for pickup, and additional copies will be available for purchase. Those who wish to share a poem can add their names to the sign-up sheet at the door. poetry815 contributors will have the first opportunity at the microphone to read their submitted pieces, followed by other poets who may read for up to five minutes each. Participation is optional for poetry815 poets. Light refreshments and water will be provided, and guests may bring a non-alcoholic beverage in a closed container. Everyone is welcome. The pavilion is the planned setting, with the main studio space as the indoor backup in case of rain.

Mother Earth 2.0 Release Party

Rune Reading Workshop

Discover the ancient Norse tradition of rune reading in an immersive workshop guided by instructor Mike. Explore the Elder Futhark, the earliest runic alphabet, and learn the meanings of all 24 symbols. The session covers the history of the runes, including the myth of Odin’s sacrifice and archaeological findings, how runes are used for insight rather than prediction, and reading methods using one, three, and nine rune spreads. Build a personal connection through meditation and journaling, and begin crafting your own set. Please bring a notebook or journal. A rune set is provided, or bring your own. Expect approximately one hour of learning and practice. Cost is $40 per person. The runes are presented as more than a tool for divination, offering a sacred alphabet that reflects human experience through myth and metaphor and inviting deep listening to intuition, ancestors, and the voice of the wild.

Backstage Pass: Intro to Tech & Crew

Step behind the curtain at an interactive open house that introduces the world of tech and crew for ages 14 and up. Riggins Racing Moonlight Bowling Fundraiser

A moonlight bowling fundraiser for Riggins Racing takes place at Park Lanes. Couples can participate for $40, which covers three games in a Scotch Doubles 9-Pin No Tap format and rental shoes. The evening also features a basket raffle, a 50/50 raffle, and a liquor wagon basket raffle.

Trinadora returns to the Freedom Through The Word Church concert series with a program of gospel music rooted in three centuries of Christian tradition. Ayala performs in both English and Spanish, sharing personal stories with crisp punchlines, and co-produces Hahas y Jajas at BABS Comedy Club and Green Town Comedy in Waukegan. Whalen, a Chicago comic, spins everyday experiences into playful, offbeat conclusions, and offstage enjoys sandwiches, the occasional brush with danger, and smiling at other people's dogs. Heisler, based in Chicago, mixes sharp one-liners with quirky observations, is a regular paid performer at Zanies in Chicago, has opened for Tim Dillon, Ali Macofsky, and Myq Kaplan, and has appeared at The Laughing Tap, Comedy Plex, Carolines on Broadway, and New York Comedy Club. Daniel Cassilagio, also known as Dan Cass, performs across major clubs in Chicago and throughout the United States, has opened for Moses Storm, Joey Villagomez, and Billy Wayne Davis, directs What Could Go Wrong and co-produces and co-directs Lowkey Funny at The Laugh Factory, studied at the Moscow Art Theater in Russia, and appeared at the first Boom! Chicago comedy festival in Amsterdam in 2021 before returning as a host and headliner in 2022. There is a $10 cover. DEKA STRONG & DEKA ATLAS Hosted by CrossFit Supercell - Rockford, IL

Hosted by CrossFit Supercell in Rockford, this Spartan DEKA event features DEKA STRONG and DEKA ATLAS, bringing a fun, gamified test of fitness to the community. DEKA STRONG includes ten functional training zones with no running. Competitors can record an official DEKA STRONG Mark and use it as a step toward DEKA FIT 2026. Space is limited.

Girl Scout "Gardener" Junior Badge Workshop

Hosted by Tinker Swiss Cottage Museum, this two-hour, hands-on gardening workshop is tailored to Junior Girl Scouts working toward the Gardener Badge. Participants will explore how to plan and design gardens, consider how climate influences what can be grown, and discuss the ways gardens can serve a purpose both at home and in the wider community. The session is structured to fulfill all badge requirements, but badges are not issued by the museum. Proof of completion will be provided at the end, and badges can be obtained through Girl Scouts of Northern Illinois. Admission is $10 per Girl Scout, which includes a tour focused on the topic with interactive badge activities, and $10 per adult. Every child must be accompanied by an adult.

Spring Shred Day

MembersAlliance is partnering with the Better Business Bureau to offer free on-site paper shredding for the community. Shredding personal documents helps protect against identity theft by ensuring they are disposed of properly. Attendees can drive through next to the drive-up lanes to drop off boxes for free paper shredding. To ensure everyone is served, there is a limit of two boxes per vehicle.

Earth Day Community Clean Up Day

Participate in a community clean up focused on giving back to the neighborhood. The event welcomes all ages and requires no prior experience. Gloves, bags, and any necessary tools are provided, and guidance will be available to support safe and effective participation. It is an opportunity to meet neighbors, contribute together, and show community pride. Participants will gather in the lobby of the SwedishAmerican Riverfront Y. Advance registration is requested.

Spring Cash Scramble

A spring scramble with cash on the line takes place at Ledges Golf Course. Entry includes your round, food, and prizes, and play begins with a shotgun start. Payouts allocate $1,000 for first place, $900 for fourth, $800 for eighth, and $600 for twelfth in place of HDCPS. Tee placements are set by division: men 54 and under play from the blue tees, men 55 to 64 from the white tees, men 65 and over from the gold tees, and women from the gold tees.

Pop-Up @ PAWS Market

Enjoy a pop-up marketplace at Paws Humane Society in Rockford that combines a free, family-friendly craft fair with pet adoption opportunities. This series takes place each month throughout the summer. Additional information will be shared as it becomes available. Puppy Yoga at the Market

This in-person experience at The Market pairs a relaxing yoga practice with the company of adoptable puppies from Noah's Ark Animal Sanctuary at Rockford City Market. It is open to all experience levels and focuses on easing stress while adding playful puppy interaction. Two sessions are available to allow more participants to take part. NorthPointe Wellness Family Movement Class

Get moving together with a family-friendly cardio drumming class at NorthPointe Wellness. This energetic full-body workout welcomes all ages, with participants under 18 attending with an adult. The program is offered in two sessions on the same day, and attendees should select only one. Registration is required and can be completed by phone or in person through NSLD Reference Services, and space is limited. An NSLD Library Card is required to register.

Superhero STEM: Mystic Math

A hands-on STEM experience for ages 6 to 14 where participants build and launch paper rockets, try web-making activities inspired by Spider-Man, and decode mystic symbol patterns reminiscent of Doctor Strange. Kids design a custom hero emblem and watch math come alive as geometry, shapes, and slopes power each challenge. All supplies are provided, and the cost is $50.

RSO & RPS205 Instrument Drive

Unused instruments can find a new purpose at Riverfront Museum Park, where the Rockford Symphony Orchestra will collect items in good condition to support instrumental music programs in Rockford Public Schools. Accepted donations include brass, woodwinds, strings, small percussion, working electric keyboards, and acoustic guitars. Items not accepted include pianos, electric guitars, accordions, and non-working electric keyboards. Instruments will be evaluated on-site during the drive, and contributions may qualify for a tax deduction through the Rockford Symphony Orchestra.

Riftbound Weekly Nexus Night

Entry is $10. This event centers on Riftbound Constructed play, where each player brings a 40 card deck with no more than three copies of any unique card, plus one Legend, three Battlefields, and twelve Runes. Matches are played in a best of three format. An optional sideboard of up to eight cards may be used and swapped between games, and it must follow standard deckbuilding limits including the three copy rule. Prize support scales with attendance, with two packs from the current set added to the pool for every registered player. All participants receive one booster and a Nexus Night pack, and the remaining packs are awarded to the top finishers.

Greenhouse Mother’s Day Mini Sessions

Alabaster Photography partners with The Landscape Connection for greenhouse mini photo sessions that celebrate motherhood, held in the Main Greenhouse at The Landscape Connection. Each reservation includes a 20 minute photo session, at least 10 professionally edited digital images, and an online gallery for downloading and sharing delivered within three weeks. Every mom receives a hanging plant to take home in honor of Mother’s Day. The fee is $150, due at booking to secure a spot. Availability is limited and reservations are accepted in the order received.

Buttercream Cake Painting Class

Sweet Cheeks Bakery presents a hands-on class where participants paint their own cake with buttercream. Each person receives a pre-frosted 4-inch cake, with a choice of vanilla or chocolate, and a selection of colored buttercream to create a custom design. 9TH ANNUAL ROCKFORD AREA SCRATCH TRIO TOURNAMENT

This scratch trio bowling tournament brings teams of three adults together for a competitive day on the lanes, capped at 32 teams. Each roster must include at least one bowler who is 50 years of age or older. Entry is $70 per bowler when paid early, with $60 allocated to the prize fund and $10 to lineage, and $80 per bowler after the deadline. Teams must be fully paid. Minimum payouts are set at 1 in 5 based on a full 32-team field. The format features three qualifying games, a cut to the top 16 for two additional games, then a cut to the top 8 for one more game, leading to a top 6 bracket to decide the final standings.

Pokemon Weekly League

This weekly Pokemon League focuses on the Standard format with regular play throughout the month. A monthly League Challenge offers a slightly more competitive experience with a higher entry fee and more prize support. Entry is $9 for regular sessions and $15 for the monthly Challenge. When supplies allow, every participant receives a prize pack, and prizes include booster packs from the most recent Standard set.

Bubble Vase Workshop- 4/26/26

Create a uniquely patterned bubble-glazed urn vase at this interactive workshop. Participants learn a playful technique that uses dish soap, glaze paints, and a straw to design a one-of-a-kind piece. The $45 per vase fee includes one urn vase, glaze paints, all necessary supplies, step-by-step instruction, and kiln firing. Finished vases will be ready for pickup 10 to 12 days after the workshop. Bringing your own snacks and soft drinks is welcome. Tickets are non-refundable, and registration must be completed in advance. Seating is limited and events like this often fill quickly, and it is a timely idea for a Mother's Day gift.

NIMRC Race Day

This event at Alternative Wellness Therapies features open track time followed by racing and welcomes newcomers. The club provides loaner cars for Box Stock, allowing participation without upfront costs. There is a flat $20 participant fee per round with unlimited class entries, and loaner cars are free. The fee supports the club and future track additions and maintenance.

Reiki II: Next Steps

Levels offered include 9.3, 11.3, and 13.3, giving players options that match their experience. Spring ‘26 Fresh Meat Program

Rockford Rage Roller Derby presents a six-week introductory program that helps new skaters build confidence and learn the fundamentals of roller derby. Sessions take place twice each week over the course of the program. Participants must be 18 or older and out of high school. Required gear includes quad roller skates, a helmet, elbow pads, wrist guards, knee pads, and a mouthguard. Registration involves completing a form and submitting a $60 fee, with cash accepted on the day, and including your full name and pronouns with the payment. Founded in 2006, Rockford Rage Roller Derby is the first and only nonprofit roller derby league in Rockford, and its members also volunteer for local causes and raise funds for other area nonprofits. 14th Annual David H. Caskey Memorial Lecture

Now in its fourteenth year, the David H. Caskey Memorial Lecture offers a free public talk and conversation on the intersections of playfulness, humor, and philosophy, inviting attendees to consider how playful thinking can be taken seriously. The keynote speaker is Chris Kramer, Assistant Professor and chair of philosophy at Santa Barbara City College, whose work includes the philosophy of education and mind, religion, informal logic, existentialism and phenomenology, oppression, and the philosophy of humor. His doctoral research, titled “Subversive Humor,” explores humor alongside structures of oppression. Participants learn how to begin and continue body safety conversations using straightforward language. Topics include teaching boundaries and body autonomy, spotting potential red flags, recognizing grooming behaviors, navigating online safety, and helping children identify and communicate with trusted adults. Olympic Tavern's 3rd Beefsteak Banquet

The third Beefsteak Banquet at The Olympic Tavern embraces the classic no napkins, no silverware approach, with a focus on hearty cuts of meat. For two hours, attendees enjoy all-you-can-eat filet mignon, ribeye, prime rib, pork chops, sausage, and other meat-based options. Meat is served on toast points that are collected rather than eaten, and everyone takes home a custom apron. This is a ticketed event that includes two Whiskey Acres drinks, and guests must be 21 or older. Stern Army- POKEMON- Launch Party Double Tournament

Louie’s Tap House hosts a Stern Army POKEMON launch party with two pinball tournaments. The first tournament features qualifying that leads into playoffs. Each participant receives one free game on POKEMON, and that score counts toward qualifying. The highest four scores advance, or eight if there are more than forty players. Playoffs span four games, with the final game played on POKEMON. Practice games on POKEMON are not permitted during qualifying. For this tournament only, the $1 IFPA fee is covered. Expect prizes and giveaways, and the champion earns a Launch Party Grand Champion plaque. The second tournament starts with a 7 strike progressive knockout. Once the field is reduced to four or eight competitors, a double elimination playoff follows for the top 4 or 8 qualifiers, implemented if there are 24 or more players and based on attendance. If four players reach the finals, the winners bracket uses best of three matches and the losers bracket uses single game matches. If eight players reach the finals, all matches are single game in both winners and losers brackets. Payouts go to the top four finishers at 40, 30, 20, and 10 percent. The entry fee is $5, which includes the $1 IFPA fee, plus coin drop. Both tournaments are IFPA approved. Sponsored by Rockford Pinball, Toad Hall Books and Records, and Louie’s Tap House.

Rockford Park District’s Lockwood Park welcomes the community to a country-style Derby Day with a variety of activities. In the spirit of the Kentucky Derby, guests are encouraged to wear their fanciest hats. Atwood Park staff will present a free Birds of Prey show in the tent near the Big Country Shelter. Riftbound Weekly Nexus Night

Riftbound Weekly Nexus Night features Riftbound Constructed with a $10 entry. Players compete using 40-card decks that allow up to three copies of any unique card and must include 1 Legend, 3 Battlefields, and 12 Runes. Matches are played as best of three, and an optional sideboard of up to eight cards can be swapped between games as long as normal deckbuilding limits are followed. The prize pool grows with attendance, adding two packs from the current set for every registered player. Each participant receives one booster and a Nexus Night pack, and the remaining packs go to the top finishers.

Big Brew 2026 - Urban Forest

National Homebrew Day was formally recognized in 1988, and the American Homebrewers Association created Big Brew as a yearly, worldwide celebration held on the first Saturday in May, when homebrew clubs gather to brew and celebrate together. This year, the gathering returns to Urban Forest Craft Brewing, where brewers are encouraged to bring their equipment and brew on site. There is plenty of room, with water hookups and standard electrical outlets available, although 220/240 volt service is not provided. Plans call for a rain-or-shine experience, with club tents available if needed. Organizers request advance notice from those planning to brew, and early setup can be accommodated. The day is welcoming for people new to homebrewing, offering a chance to watch multiple batches from start to finish, compare different setups, and pick up practical tips. Incoming Scholars will be acknowledged as they receive scholarships to attend nearby colleges and universities, and graduates from Rockford University, Northern Illinois University, and Rock Valley College will be celebrated as they complete their degrees and take their next steps. These themes are recognized as key influences on retention and academic success across many minoritized student populations. Receive coaching on using wood burning tools to customize your design, with stencils and templates available for an easy start. Add finishing touches with hat bands and other decorations. No experience is required, and the session is open to everyone. Hats are one size and adjustable. Suitable for ages 12 and up. Participants complete and take home their personalized piece.

Wildflowers Helping Karena Fight!!

This benefit supports Karena Zweerink, 51, a dedicated member of the motorcycle community and a strong supporter of Wildflower, as she faces a recurrence of cancer that has spread. After overcoming cancer once, she has now been diagnosed with stage 4 high grade serous ovarian carcinoma and is experiencing significant abdominal pain and other physical challenges as this fight begins again. The gathering takes place at Benny’s Bourbon Tequila Slots, located inside the Kegel Harley Davidson in Rockford. Live music, a 50/50 raffle, raffle baskets, and vendors will help raise funds for her bills and everyday needs, with proceeds going to Karena.

Mad Tuna 2026

The Mad Tuna Carp Tournament returns to Atwood Homestead, Old Settlers Shelter, for a full day of competitive carp fishing and camaraderie. Teams will compete for cash payouts for first, second, and third place, along with a special prize for the biggest carp. The entry fee is $50 per team and includes an event shirt and lunch provided by Mark’s Pizza. This tournament supports and brings together the first responder community, and each team must include at least one active or retired Police, Fire, or Corrections professional.
