Freaky Friday

Shine the Light Project, Inc., a community youth theatre group, caps its third season with a fresh staging of Freaky Friday, the musical inspired by Mary Rodgers’ classic novel and the popular Disney films. Developed by Disney Theatrical Productions for licensing to theatres, this version features a book by Bridget Carpenter, known for Friday Night Lights and Parenthood, with music and lyrics by Tom Kitt and Brian Yorkey, the Pulitzer Prize winning team behind Next to Normal and If/Then. The story follows a stressed mom and her teenage daughter who suddenly trade bodies and have only a day to switch back. Experiencing life in each other’s shoes leads Katherine and Ellie to understand one another’s challenges, embrace who they are, and recognize the strong love and respect that connect them. The show blends warmth, humor, and spirited musical numbers, making it a welcoming choice for families. This production is presented by special arrangement with Music Theatre International. King of the Hill 2026 Summer Friday's May 15 - Aug. 14 at 10pm 19th Annual Weekly Bowling Tournament

Now in its 19th year, this weekly summer bowling tournament welcomes walk-ins only with no advance registration required and is open to all bowlers. For this stop, the lanes are dressed with the Shauns26 Bullet 39-foot oil pattern. The night begins with a brief practice, then moves into a three-game qualifier with a move one pair to the right after each game and a random draw for starting lanes, including the traditional wrap from lane 32 to lane 1. At least the top 31 advance to seeded head-to-head match play. Qualifying ties are broken by two shots, one on each lane, using total count to a maximum of 20, and match play ties are settled by a single-ball roll-off with the higher seed choosing order and lane. No substitutions outside of this series are permitted. Entry is $35 and includes the high game and series qualifier pots. Of that entry, $23 goes to the weekly prize fund, $1 supports the end-of-series prize pool, and $11 covers bowling fees. Optional forward and reverse brackets are available for $5 each, often drawing 20 to 40 entries weekly. Estimated payouts based on 64 entries award $300 for first, $222 for second, $120 for third and fourth, $80 for fifth through eighth, and $40 for ninth through twelfth, with about one in four participants cashing. The top qualifier earns a $20 bonus, high game pays each game, the top two finalists receive a complimentary entry for the following week, and the number 13 seed also earns free entry next week. Youth awards are issued as scholarship, or as Inman’s or pro shop gift cards for amounts under $500. A points race runs through the series, with one point per game and a bonus point for the weekly champion. Bowlers who compete in at least seven of the twelve weeks qualify for the finale, and the top five in points receive free entry to that night. Those short on weeks can buy in at $10 per week missed. The finale features added prize money plus a bonus match against Shaun worth an extra $100, along with a challenging dual-pattern setup using Great Flood at 52 feet on the left lane and Great Drought at 28 feet on the right. Kings Rules apply, allowing surface changes at any time, bowling right or left-handed, and the use of any ball marked with a USBC serial number, including previously approved equipment with weight holes, and not all USBC tournament rules are followed. An optional Have-A-Ball program lets players purchase a Storm, Roto Grip, or 900 Global ball for $200 with drilling included, with balls distributed at the series finale. All decisions are final with the tournament director, and entries may be refused.

The Creators' Altar: Painted Altar Tiles Workshop

Settle into a calm, hands-on ritual that invites slowing down and reconnecting with the joy of making by hand. The session opens with a brief centering meditation and gentle movement to spark inner imagery, intuition, and creative flow. Next, participants receive guidance to intuitively paint a small ceramic altar tile with acrylics, choosing colors, symbols, patterns, words, or images that hold personal meaning. Your finished tile can serve as a meaningful reminder of intention at an altar, on a desk, in a garden, on a windowsill, by the bed, or in any ritual space. Artistic experience is not required. The focus is on expression, permission to create, and a welcoming sense of community. A themed nonalcoholic mocktail is included while you paint. Tiles will be sealed after the session and made available for pickup at a later time. The cost is $55 per creator and includes all materials and one mocktail. Because materials are ordered in advance and space is limited, refunds are not available. If attendance becomes impossible, registration may be transferred to another person.

Repetition as Devotion: A Summer Solstice Moving Prayer

A Summer Solstice practice guided by Ohm instructor Katie Hawks invites participants to honor the longest day through mindful movement, breath, and intention. Grounded in the sacred significance of the number 108 in yoga, the session explores 108 Sun Salutations as a contemplative ritual rather than a test of stamina, using steady repetition to cultivate rhythm, presence, and a sense of prayer. The sequence begins with gentle warm-ups and traditional Sun Salutations, builds into Surya Namaskar A and B, then gradually softens into slower, grounding movements. The experience concludes with guided meditation and savasana to support integration and rest. This workshop welcomes all levels. Participants are encouraged to move at a sustainable pace, rest as needed, and continually return attention to the breath and the body. Themes of the season such as light, abundance, gratitude, and an inner quiet radiance are woven throughout. The atmosphere centers on arriving as you are and moving with intention, allowing repetition to become an expression of devotion. The workshop fee is $40.
