The Longfellow Summer Arts Festival hosts a performance by pianist, composer, and arranger Yujin Han. Born in South Korea, Han studied at Dongduk Women’s University and began her career in 2020 leading the alternative R&B band the Blowers, sharing original music with support from the CJ Cultural Foundation. After moving to the United States, she continued her studies at Berklee College of Music on a Presidential Scholarship and deepened her work at the Berklee Global Jazz Institute and the Berklee Institute of Jazz and Gender Justice, exploring inventive harmony and rhythm shaped by diverse global influences. Her credits include appearances at the Panama Jazz Festival, Medford Jazz Festival, Boston Progressive Jazz Festival, and stages across Korea and Boston, and she was highlighted as an emerging artist at the 2024 Vermont Solo Jazz Piano Festival. Presented with the Berklee Summer in the City concert series, the festival offers music, poetry, and a welcoming community on the Longfellow House lawn throughout the summer, and all events are free and open to everyone.

Explore modern poetry through short works by celebrated twentieth century writers in a relaxed, conversation-driven setting. Participants will listen to or read poems, share first impressions, and delve into the questions and themes that arise together. Texts are provided at the meeting, so no advance preparation is needed. This free, salon-style series is open to everyone, from seasoned readers to the simply curious. Each session stands on its own, and while prior experience can help, it is not required. A taste for inventive techniques, comfort with ambiguity, and respect for differing viewpoints will enrich the experience. Discussions highlight poets who witnessed social upheaval and helped shape modern literature through their responses to historical events, with a global lens that includes writers working in many languages and available in English translation. Expect brief introductions rather than formal lectures, with connections and discoveries emerging through shared observations. August’s gathering spotlights U.S. poets Frank O’Hara and James Schuyler. Hosted by Gary Roberts, a poet and co-founder of Arts Collaborative Medford, as part of a literary arts initiative.
