Pitch in on a hands-on restoration day with the Goldsmith Street Friends Group and the Woonasquatucket River Watershed Council, focused on planting native species along the Woonasquatucket River Greenway. An area recently cleared of invasive mugwort and knotweed is ready for the next step, and volunteers will help install plants like serviceberry, juniper, and ostrich fern to support wildlife, stabilize soils, and improve stormwater management for a healthier river corridor. This effort is part of the WRWC’s Right Tree Right Place project in partnership with Rhode Island Energy, with additional support from a Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management Habitat Restoration Grant. No prior gardening experience is needed. Tools, materials, gloves, guidance, and snacks are provided. Participants may bring a bike for the trip to the planting site. Please dress for the weather, wear closed-toe shoes, expect to get a bit muddy, and bring a refillable water bottle. WRWC staff will also be available to talk about the existing Greenway and plans under discussion, including how future investments can enhance habitat, water quality, flood resilience, recreation, public spaces, and local connections. A series of community volunteer days dedicated to caring for neighborhood trees and green spaces in Providence. Throughout the season, Nuestros Bosques Forest Care Days travels to sites across 02909 and 02908 to strengthen the urban forest. Activities vary by location and may include removing invasive plants, picking up litter, watering young trees, spreading mulch, and tending the places where trees grow. These gatherings welcome families, with kid-friendly options and ways for all ages to contribute. Events are free, bilingual in Spanish and English, and open to everyone. Food is available, and all tools and supplies are provided. Expect time for both meaningful work and connection with neighbors, including chances to share food and celebrate community. Please dress for outdoor work with comfortable clothing, closed-toe shoes, and sun protection, and bring water and anything else needed to stay comfortable. An indoor marketplace fills Mumford Hall with a themed selection of goods and experiences inspired by the mystical and the wonderfully weird. Vendors are set up on both the upper and lower levels, with 30 exhibitors sharing creations and curios rooted in fantasy, medieval lore, Halloween spirit, gothic style, horror, oddities, curiosities, metaphysical and occult interests, wellness, apothecary traditions, witchcraft, whimsical ideas, cryptids, mythology, folklore, celestial motifs, and handmade artistry from authors, artisans, and botanical makers. Attendees can explore handcrafted items such as spell-infused candles, sacred jewelry, potent herbs, and mystical home decor, and seek insight from psychics and tarot readers. An evening of food trucks, music, and community comes to Downtown Providence with the Gloria Gemma Breast Cancer Resource Foundation as part of the 2026 Flames of Hope: A Celebration of Life weekend, now at a new location. Admission is free, and guests pay only for food and beverages. Earlier in the day, the free Celebration of Life Festival leads into the Illuminations of Life Ceremony and Torch Procession, a program that uses choreography, music, and storytelling to share messages of hope, faith, strength, courage, and determination. The 7th annual Eustis Estate Fine Arts and Crafts Market brings together regional artisans for an outdoor marketplace filled with original, handmade pieces across many mediums. During the market, entry to the Eustis Estate house museum is complimentary, where the exhibition Myth and Memory: Stories of the American Revolution is on view. First on the Floor presents free beginner West Coast Swing lessons on the Providence Pedestrian Bridge as part of the Providence Fitness in the Parks series.
