Housing Stewardship Workshop: Renter Rights, Safety, and Stability

Towson · Location TBD, 100 West Rd

    Free

South Baltimore Community Land Trust is offering a free community workshop focused on renter rights, housing safety, and stability. Participants will learn what legal protections tenants have, where to seek help for problems with living conditions, how to document concerns and advocate effectively, and when it makes sense to escalate unresolved issues. The session is led by Detrese Dowridge, executive director of Baltimore Renters United, an organization that works with tenants across Baltimore City to improve rental safety for individuals and families. This program is part of SBCLT’s six-part monthly stewardship series, which covers financial readiness for renters and buyers, the homebuying journey with SBCLT, the trust’s path to ownership, financing through a community land trust, renter protections and stability, and guidance for sustaining success after a purchase. SBCLT advances housing without pushing residents out by rehabilitating vacant properties and building new homes on unused land. Homes created through the trust remain affordable over the long term, expanding opportunity for generations. The organization’s vision centers on strong, healthy neighborhoods in South Baltimore and infrastructure that supports the environment and local economies. In this model, stewardship means ongoing support for first-time buyers before, during, and after purchase, including connections to mission-aligned real estate professionals, leadership development for community members, and referrals to repair providers who share a commitment to zero waste practices.

    Marshall Crenshaw

Elkton · Elkton Music Hall, 109 W Main St

Marshall Crenshaw brings a career’s worth of songs and stories, shaped by years of writing, recording, and touring. Born in Detroit and drawn to the guitar from a young age, he broke through in 1978 portraying John Lennon in Beatlemania, first as an understudy in New York, then with the West Coast cast and the national tour. After leaving the production in early 1980, he moved to New York City, where the vibrant rock scene inspired him to form a trio with his brother Robert on drums and Chris Donato on bass. Not long after, a connection with Alan Betrock led to his debut single, “Something’s Gonna Happen,” on Shake Records, while Robert Gordon released his version of Crenshaw’s “Someday, Someway” on RCA. Both tracks earned major airplay on New York’s WNEW-FM and quickly raised the trio’s local profile. Since then he has built a four-decade run marked by 13 albums, appearances on film and television including portraying Buddy Holly in La Bamba, and thousands of concerts. His current touring band, assembled in 2022, features Fernando Perdomo on guitar, a multi-instrumentalist and producer, Derrick Anderson on bass, also a singer-songwriter, and drummer Mark Ortmann, a founder of the Bottle Rockets. Sarah Borges and Eric Ambel open.

America 250: Unlocked is back from the National Museum of Railroad History & Innovation with a focus on the nation’s 250th anniversary, offering monthly access inside different pieces of rail heritage. As part of this series, the B&O No. 147 "Thatcher Perkins" is opened in recognition of Veteran’s Day, providing a close look at a notable ten wheel locomotive introduced in 1863. Designed by Thatcher Perkins, the railroad’s Master of Machinery, this engine was among eleven powerful ten wheelers built to move heavy passenger trains across the steep Allegheny terrain. It began service on military duty for the Union Army, carrying troops and supplies through the Potomac River Valley from 1863 to 1865. In the decades after the Civil War it worked on both passenger and freight trains. Retired in the early 1890s, the locomotive went on to be showcased at major public events, including the 1893 Chicago World’s Fair and the 1927 Fair of the Iron Horse. The series also offers interior access to other collection highlights, including the newly restored B&O No. 3316 "Washington" Observation Tavern Car, and American Freedom Train No. 1 will be opened twice. Dirty Grass Players and more

    Towson · The Recher

The Dirty Grass Players bring their boundary-pushing bluegrass to The Recher in Towson, performing alongside Radish. Based in Baltimore, the band has explored the leading edge of the genre since 2015, pairing tradition-rooted harmonies with daring improvisation. Whether stretching a tune into an expansive jam or firing off a concise classic, they balance progress and heritage with crisp musicianship and a touch of grit. What began as jams between founders Ben Kolakowski on guitar and Ryan Rogers on mandolin quickly grew into a Baltimore buzz, then national and European touring. Their festival stops include Grey Fox, DelFest, Dark Star Jubilee, ROMP, Bristol Rhythm & Roots, and the Rotterdam Bluegrass Festival. With Connor Murray on bass since 2021 and Sam Guthridge joining on banjo in 2024, the current lineup arrives with fresh momentum. The group has released two albums and multiple singles. Their latest album, Shiny Side Up, produced by Cody Kilby of the Travelin' McCourys, ventures into darker themes and adventurous arrangements, earning recognition for affirming the band’s rise and pointing to a bright future for bluegrass. Their first single with the new lineup reimagines Jimi Hendrix’s Voodoo Child (Slight Return) as a driving bluegrass piece that proves looking to the roots can inspire new directions. Sharing the bill, Radish is a Baltimore string band that blends classic and contemporary bluegrass influences with a flair for avant garde improvisation. The ensemble features Chris Ackerman on bass, Sam Allen on banjo, Sam Cochran on guitar, Wyatt Graham on mandolin, and Matthew Zuckerman on dobro. Their debut self-titled album is available on streaming platforms. Presented by 24-7 Entertainment.

"White" by James Ijames - first time in Baltimore!

    Baltimore · 5426 Harford Rd

Presented live at the Strand Theater in Baltimore, the production features Holly E Gibbs, ReginaGinaG, Chad Tyler, and Steven Zhu. Seating is general admission, with tickets priced at $25 on Thursdays and Sundays and $30 on Fridays and Saturdays. A discounted Industry Night performance is available for $15.
