    Steampunk Soirée

Lord Baltimore Hotel, Baltimore · verified Sep 27
    See details

Two worlds collide as the Steampunk Soirée melds with Nevermore for a night of gothic elegance and clockwork imagination at the Lord Baltimore Hotel, a setting that has been quietly perfecting its eerie charm since 1928. This gathering tips its hat to Edgar Allan Poe, whose mysterious passing in Baltimore still haunts the city. The evening opens with a candlelit social where curious minds and kindred spirits can mingle. Expect a private bar and a marketplace of vendors offering the unusual, the arcane, and the beautifully strange, all under an ambiance that hints at unseen listeners just beyond the glow of the lamps. Paranormalist and mentalist Vince Wilson presents an evening of gothic magic that straddles the line between the impossible and the merely unexplained, drawing on twenty-five years of experience. The Dust Bowl Faeries, an accordion-driven ensemble from New York’s Hudson Valley with a dark cabaret flair and a touch of woodland witchery, deliver a live music murder mystery. Later, Vince Wilson leads a séance seeking contact with Edgar Allan Poe and Harry Houdini, acknowledging that any reply from beyond remains between the guests and the veil. Additional performers and surprises will be revealed. VIP ticket holders receive early entry, first choice of seats, and a few undisclosed perks.

    Faux Real

Songbyrd Music House, 540 Penn St NE, Washington · verified Oct 2
    See details

Faux Real leads the bill with Babe America and Bryce Xavier for an art pop showcase that plays with expectation and spectacle. The Franco American duo of brothers Elliott and Virgile Arndt pushes their project ever wider, delivering high energy, DIY styled sets marked by coordinated outfits, tightly synced choreography, and athletic high kicks. Their sound and staging collide raw punk bravado with glossy Eurodance boy band polish, thriving in the tension between precision and pandemonium, the visceral and the manufactured, and constantly teasing the line between what is genuine and what is performance. Performing as Babe America, singer songwriter and actor Ava Morse brings a voice all her own. The Naperville, Illinois native first reached many ears as the voice of Miriam in the Disney Pixar film Turning Red. At 20, she explores longing, illusion, and commitment with clear eyed lyrics that examine the search for approval and the costs that can come with it. Los Angeles born Bryce Xavier adds a fully queer viewpoint and a fearless sense of self. A digital creator since age 14, he has built an audience of more than 4 million and uses that platform to champion honesty, vulnerability, and individuality. His music arrived in 2020 with the single Bus Ride Away, featured on Spotify’s New Music Friday, followed by Already Looking At Me. Both tracks were co written and produced with Brad Delson of Linkin Park and producer Danny Byrne, shaping a bright, synth driven pop sound.

    Robert Lester Folsom and more

Songbyrd Music House, 540 Penn St NE, Washington · verified Oct 2
    See details

Presented by Songbyrd in collaboration with U+N Booking, this show brings Robert Lester Folsom together with Liz Cooper. Folsom appears amid renewed attention to his work as Anthology Recordings continues to unearth Sunshine Only Sometimes: Archives Vol. 2, 1972–1975, a collection drawn from tapes made around Georgia in bedrooms, a barn, and a motel room, tracked on reel to reel with a rotating crew of skilled collaborators. Born and raised in Adel, Georgia, he grew into a hands-on producer and arranger using a Sears 3440 recorder, often working with guitarist Hans VanBrackle, writing material that would feed into Ode to a Rainy Day and Sunshine Only Sometimes, and later forming the rural-leaning rock outfit Abacus. His 1976 album Music and Dreams was reissued in 2010, while the earlier archive highlights tuneful folk rock shaded by introspection, with flashes of pop, country blues, and psych pop on songs like "Ease My Mind", "Julie", and "Lonely Lovers". Singer songwriter Liz Cooper arrives with New Day, her third album shaped by a stretch of personal reinvention. After relocating to New York, living through a pandemic, and embracing her identity through a first queer relationship and its aftermath, she pivoted toward psychedelic pop. Writing demos solo at home and taking on production for the first time alongside Dan Molad, she pursued bold textures, from routing guitar through a Kaoss pad while a microphone swept the room to capturing feedback from Marshall stacks at the War on Drugs' studio. The result is music marked by self-assurance and an exploratory spirit. Together, the bill pairs Folsom’s rediscovered southern folk rock roots with Cooper’s forward-looking pop, offering a thoughtful look back and a step into new territory.

    Eliza Tebo and more

The Pocket, 1508 North Capitol St, Washington · verified Oct 2
    See details

An all-ages concert featuring Eliza Tebo with Integriti Reeves and Melanie McDowell. Eliza Tebo, a singer and songwriter based in Washington, crafts songs with clear, emotive vocals and lyrics that resonate. Her work spans styles, including a debut jazz album that won the 2023 Wammie Award for Best Jazz Album and an Americana release titled Virginia is for Lovers that arrived earlier in the year. She is currently developing a third project, Everything Matters and Nothing At All, a collection of lo-fi originals, and listeners who enjoy Clairo, Suzanne Vega, Aimee Mann, or Azure Ray may feel at home with her sound. Melanie McDowell, an acoustic folk artist from the area, writes about the worries, questions, and longings that lie just beneath the surface. She self-produced and released two records in 2024, Big and Small and A Life That I Love, with more music on the horizon, and fans of Kina Grannis, Lizzy McAlpine, Phoebe Bridgers, or Joni Mitchell may connect with her approach. Integriti Reeves adds a powerful voice and a modern vintage sensibility grounded in Black American music, blending heritage with what is new. Her tone often invites comparisons to the clarity of Ella Fitzgerald and the smooth grace of Nat King Cole.

Black Cat, 1811 14th St NW, Washington · verified Oct 2
    See details

At Black Cat in Washington, DC, Strange Boutique appears with Cemetery Sex and DJ Sara Vox for an all-ages show. Strange Boutique, a DC original, grew out of the local punk scene into a new post-punk chapter, shaping three albums of guitar-driven ethereal pop with melodic textures and a touch of mysticism. From 1987 to 1993 the band was a fixture in area clubs, drawing fans from across DC’s goth and punk scenes along with scene regulars and dreamers. Reunion performances in 2004 and 2019, Monica Richards’ work with Faith and the Muse, and a viral wave around the song Drown sustained interest and brought the group to a new generation of listeners. The band now celebrates the new album Let the Lonely Heart Sing, with the core trio of Monica Richards, bassist Steve Willett, and guitarist Dennis Kane joined by DC veteran Gregg Hudson on drums. Coverage from Post-Punk.com and Music Crowns highlights shimmering romantic tones, intricate guitar lines, a chorus-rich bass presence, Richards’ unmistakable voice, and themes of lost time, longing, wonder, and enduring hope. Cemetery Sex and DJ Sara Vox, both from Washington, DC, round out the lineup.

    2026 DC Safe 5k/Half

Potomac Boat Club, 3530 Water St NW, Washington · verified Oct 2
    See details

This scenic half marathon and 5k travel the Chesapeake & Ohio Canal path in Georgetown, offering an out and back experience on a light gravel trail with minimal elevation change. The half begins and ends near the Potomac Boat Club, while the 5k starts and finishes at Fletcher’s Boathouse. Walkers are welcome, and a virtual race option is available for those who prefer to participate remotely. Participants receive a finisher medal, a technical DriFit shirt, and chip timing. Finishes earn points toward the Year-Long 5k, Endurance, Back of the Pack, and Fall Series. The Back of the Pack program is designed so athletes with higher average paces can compete with peers and collect series points. Live results and runner tracking will be available, with a QR code on site for immediate updates. Awards recognize the top three men and women overall, along with first and second place in the following age groups: 19 and under, 20 to 29, 30 to 39, 40 to 49, 50 to 59, 60 to 69, and 70 plus. Overall podium finishers are not also eligible for age group awards. Event photos are shared on social channels after race weekend. Packet pickup takes place at the event, and there is no on site race day registration. Course support includes seven water stations on the half marathon at approximately miles 1.55, 3.8, 4.3, 6.55, 8.8, 9.3, and 11.55, and one water station on the 5k around mile 1.55. Gatorade is available at some stations, and locations may change as needed. Restrooms are located near the registration areas at both start and finish locations. There is no formal bag check, though items may be left at the timing tent at your own risk and any unclaimed items will be donated. Volunteers assist with water stations, course marshaling, and finish line support. The event is held in all weather, and any schedule changes are communicated to registered participants. Please note that the half and 5k start and finish at different spots along the canal, so plan parking according to your distance. Proceeds benefit DC SAFE, Survivors and Advocates for Empowerment, a nonprofit that grew from a court based advocacy project into an independent organization providing crisis intervention and survivor defined services for people affected by domestic violence.

    B&O Railroad Museum, 901 W Pratt St, Baltimore · verified Sep 27
    See details

America 250: Unlocked is back from the National Museum of Railroad History & Innovation with a focus on the nation’s 250th anniversary, offering monthly access inside different pieces of rail heritage. As part of this series, the B&O No. 147 "Thatcher Perkins" is opened in recognition of Veteran’s Day, providing a close look at a notable ten wheel locomotive introduced in 1863. Designed by Thatcher Perkins, the railroad’s Master of Machinery, this engine was among eleven powerful ten wheelers built to move heavy passenger trains across the steep Allegheny terrain. It began service on military duty for the Union Army, carrying troops and supplies through the Potomac River Valley from 1863 to 1865. In the decades after the Civil War it worked on both passenger and freight trains. Retired in the early 1890s, the locomotive went on to be showcased at major public events, including the 1893 Chicago World’s Fair and the 1927 Fair of the Iron Horse. The series also offers interior access to other collection highlights, including the newly restored B&O No. 3316 "Washington" Observation Tavern Car, and American Freedom Train No. 1 will be opened twice. Members receive free admission for each collection piece.
