    Steampunk Soirée

Lord Baltimore Hotel, Baltimore · verified Sep 27
    See details

Two worlds collide as the Steampunk Soirée melds with Nevermore for a night of gothic elegance and clockwork imagination at the Lord Baltimore Hotel, a setting that has been quietly perfecting its eerie charm since 1928. This gathering tips its hat to Edgar Allan Poe, whose mysterious passing in Baltimore still haunts the city. The evening opens with a candlelit social where curious minds and kindred spirits can mingle. Expect a private bar and a marketplace of vendors offering the unusual, the arcane, and the beautifully strange, all under an ambiance that hints at unseen listeners just beyond the glow of the lamps. Paranormalist and mentalist Vince Wilson presents an evening of gothic magic that straddles the line between the impossible and the merely unexplained, drawing on twenty-five years of experience. The Dust Bowl Faeries, an accordion-driven ensemble from New York’s Hudson Valley with a dark cabaret flair and a touch of woodland witchery, deliver a live music murder mystery. Later, Vince Wilson leads a séance seeking contact with Edgar Allan Poe and Harry Houdini, acknowledging that any reply from beyond remains between the guests and the veil. Additional performers and surprises will be revealed. VIP ticket holders receive early entry, first choice of seats, and a few undisclosed perks.

    Faux Real

Songbyrd Music House, 540 Penn St NE, Washington · verified Oct 2
    See details

Faux Real leads the bill with Babe America and Bryce Xavier for an art pop showcase that plays with expectation and spectacle. The Franco American duo of brothers Elliott and Virgile Arndt pushes their project ever wider, delivering high energy, DIY styled sets marked by coordinated outfits, tightly synced choreography, and athletic high kicks. Their sound and staging collide raw punk bravado with glossy Eurodance boy band polish, thriving in the tension between precision and pandemonium, the visceral and the manufactured, and constantly teasing the line between what is genuine and what is performance. Performing as Babe America, singer songwriter and actor Ava Morse brings a voice all her own. The Naperville, Illinois native first reached many ears as the voice of Miriam in the Disney Pixar film Turning Red. At 20, she explores longing, illusion, and commitment with clear eyed lyrics that examine the search for approval and the costs that can come with it. Los Angeles born Bryce Xavier adds a fully queer viewpoint and a fearless sense of self. A digital creator since age 14, he has built an audience of more than 4 million and uses that platform to champion honesty, vulnerability, and individuality. His music arrived in 2020 with the single Bus Ride Away, featured on Spotify’s New Music Friday, followed by Already Looking At Me. Both tracks were co written and produced with Brad Delson of Linkin Park and producer Danny Byrne, shaping a bright, synth driven pop sound.

    Robert Lester Folsom and more

Songbyrd Music House, 540 Penn St NE, Washington · verified Oct 2
    See details

Presented by Songbyrd in collaboration with U+N Booking, this show brings Robert Lester Folsom together with Liz Cooper. Folsom appears amid renewed attention to his work as Anthology Recordings continues to unearth Sunshine Only Sometimes: Archives Vol. 2, 1972–1975, a collection drawn from tapes made around Georgia in bedrooms, a barn, and a motel room, tracked on reel to reel with a rotating crew of skilled collaborators. Born and raised in Adel, Georgia, he grew into a hands-on producer and arranger using a Sears 3440 recorder, often working with guitarist Hans VanBrackle, writing material that would feed into Ode to a Rainy Day and Sunshine Only Sometimes, and later forming the rural-leaning rock outfit Abacus. His 1976 album Music and Dreams was reissued in 2010, while the earlier archive highlights tuneful folk rock shaded by introspection, with flashes of pop, country blues, and psych pop on songs like "Ease My Mind", "Julie", and "Lonely Lovers". Singer songwriter Liz Cooper arrives with New Day, her third album shaped by a stretch of personal reinvention. After relocating to New York, living through a pandemic, and embracing her identity through a first queer relationship and its aftermath, she pivoted toward psychedelic pop. Writing demos solo at home and taking on production for the first time alongside Dan Molad, she pursued bold textures, from routing guitar through a Kaoss pad while a microphone swept the room to capturing feedback from Marshall stacks at the War on Drugs' studio. The result is music marked by self-assurance and an exploratory spirit. Together, the bill pairs Folsom’s rediscovered southern folk rock roots with Cooper’s forward-looking pop, offering a thoughtful look back and a step into new territory.
