Joey Dance - 2026 Week 2 Clinic

A Week 2 wrestling clinic at Landon School features American University assistant coach Joey Dance. Since joining AU’s staff in 2021, he has been part of the program’s resurgence, highlighted by a strong 2025-26 season with three NCAA qualifiers and a fourth-place All-American finish by Caleb Campos. He has made a notable impact with the lightweights, sending multiple 133-pounders to the NCAA Championships, guiding Raymond Lopez to team highs in dual points and pins during a 22-win season, and developing freshmen Coen Bainey and JJ Peace, with Bainey placing sixth at the EIWA Championships. Recent years also included NCAA berths for Maximilian Leete and Jack Maida, while AU’s dual wins climbed from one to eight in consecutive seasons and the team earned a top-15 Division I GPA with five NWCA Scholar All-Americans. Before AU, Dance spent three seasons at Davidson, where the program matched its best conference championship points total and earned numerous SOCON academic honors. As a two-time All-American at Virginia Tech, he compiled a 114-20 record, won three ACC titles, qualified for the NCAA Championships four times, and collected accolades that include 2014 ACC Freshman of the Year, the 2014 Midlands title, and the 2016 Cliff Keen championship. He ranks fourth in program history in career winning percentage, fifth in single-season dual wins, and seventh in both total career victories and NCAA winning percentage. After graduating in 2017, he trained and taught with the Chicago Regional Training Center and founded Push Wrestling to organize clinics for young athletes. This clinic marks his third straight year working with the MSWL.

Anna Kusner and Peter Slutsky

Born from a chance meeting, Anna Kusner and Petr Slutsky present DUETOS, a program that becomes a living conversation between sound and language, the past and the present, performers and listeners. The guitar takes on a voice of its own while poetry is heard with musical sensitivity. The repertoire weaves Bach, Villa-Lobos, Carulli, Cardoso, and Tárrega together with contemporary original works and specially crafted arrangements created for this project. Familiar pieces are reimagined with intimacy, nuance, emotion, and a hint of unpredictability. At its heart is the atmosphere, a moment when poetry becomes more than words and music more than notes, allowing something personal and genuine to arise between stage and audience. Details of the poetry component stay under wraps to keep an air of intrigue, and the spirit of the evening centers on discovery.

Into the Woods

Into the Woods, with music and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim and a book by James Lapine, weaves together well-known fairy tale figures in a story about longing, responsibility, and the price of getting what you want. A Baker and his wife yearn for a child, Cinderella hopes to attend the King’s Festival, and Jack wants his cow to produce milk. When a Witch reveals a curse that stands in the couple’s way, they set out to break it and cross paths with the others. Their wishes are fulfilled, then the consequences emerge, and each character must reckon with what their choices bring. Hailed as a modern classic, the show features a Tony Award winning book and score that balance wit, heart, and a streak of dark comedy. Originally staged on Broadway by James Lapine with orchestrations by Jonathan Tunick, this musically rich tale brings a fantastical world to life on stage.

Summer Meeting

This seasonal meeting brings together reef enthusiasts for a blend of community time, learning, and a bit of excitement at the end. It begins with check-in, a chance to connect with fellow aquarists, and coral frag sales, then moves into a workshop with the topic to be announced. After a break with more time to socialize and browse frags, the featured presentation takes the spotlight, followed by a short pause and a raffle to close. Guest speaker Nick Giannasca will share practical ways hobbyists can strengthen marine biosecurity and quarantine at home. He will discuss why many marine diseases take hold before outward signs appear, how observation, separation, timing, and informed choices help manage risk, and where PCR testing fits as a tool for revealing hidden pathogens and guiding better quarantine decisions. Giannasca is a molecular biologist and the founder and CEO of dxAquaria, where he also leads research and development. His Maryland-based team focuses on rapid molecular diagnostics for aquatic disease. With nearly a decade of experience across microbiology, cell and molecular biology, and in vitro diagnostic assay development, he works to turn advanced nucleic acid testing into practical tools for aquarium keepers, aquatic veterinarians, retailers, breeders, and aquaculture professionals. At dxAquaria he leads assay and platform development aimed at detecting serious aquatic pathogens early, helping caretakers shift from reliance on visual cues to evidence-driven diagnostics and make stronger biosecurity, quarantine, and treatment choices. He has also been a speaker at Reefapalooza Orlando. WAMAS members attend at no cost, and guests are $10, payable at the door.
