First Presbyterian ChurchHorse Leading 101/Horse Sense Hybrid Class
This hands-on training at the Therapeutic Equestrian Center prepares volunteers to serve as Horse Leaders, guiding horses during lessons while helping riders throughout each class. The curriculum blends safety, practical handling, and leadership skills designed to build confidence both in the arena and beyond. Participants learn how to maintain appropriate space with a horse, communicate clearly through body language, handle horses safely during lessons and chores, lead confidently in therapeutic riding lessons, and approach every interaction with a teamwork mindset that considers how horses perceive their environment. The session welcomes sidewalkers ready to advance, current Horse Leaders seeking a refresher, and newcomers with prior horse experience who want to get involved with TEC. Volunteers must be at least 14 years old. For questions, contact Hillary McCalebb, TEC Volunteer Coordinator, at (269) 845-9581 or tec.vol.coordinator@gmail.com.
