Voices of Kingman

Discover an immersive exhibition that shares the Kingman Museum’s story through the people, objects, and discoveries that have shaped it. Rather than following a strict timeline, it weaves together artifacts, firsthand recollections, and moments of exploration to show how Kingman has grown in step with its community. Highlights span pioneering collectors and educators to specimens that sparked curiosity and learning, with each perspective illuminating the museum’s past, present, and what lies ahead. Visitors are encouraged to engage with history, find personal connections, and see their place in Kingman’s ongoing narrative. Presented with the support of the Battle Creek Regional History Museum, which has generously provided gallery space, the exhibit helps keep Kingman Museum connected with the public during a period of transition so that its collections, history, and future plans remain accessible.

With the world finals within reach, a new competitor in his district threatens his standing, and Cole is determined to hold his spot. Those We Leave Behind

This four-week creative writing and discussion workshop, presented by Mental Health Through Art, LLC and hosted at Karma House Community Wellness Center, invites participants to examine how personal choices and struggles ripple through the lives of others. Through poetry, conversation, storytelling, and reflective exercises, the series explores themes such as addiction, isolation, emotional hardship, accountability, recovery, and healing. Each session focuses on a different part of the journey, moving from confronting harmful coping patterns and loneliness to imagining redemption and healing, then concluding with open sharing and opportunities to build supportive connections. Guided dialogue, spoken word performances, and writing prompts encourage participation at a comfortable pace in a welcoming, nonjudgmental setting. This is not a therapy program. It is a space for community, personal responsibility, and learning to face pain with words instead of carrying it alone. No prior writing experience is required and there is no pressure to share. Basic writing materials are provided. The cost is $10 for each of the first three weeks, and the final week invites a $5 donation. Optional enhancements are available, including a handout packet for an additional $5 or a journal with handouts for an additional $10. The workshop is led by Thomas Walk, a U.S. Army veteran, Telly Award recipient, Emmy-nominated creative professional, and poet and spoken word artist with nine national awards, who also founded Mental Health Through Art, LLC.

Yoga for Stress

This class is designed to ease stress that shows up not only in the mind but also in the body, from tight shoulders and jaw to a heavy feeling in the chest or belly. The practice supports the body and nervous system in slowing down and reconnecting with steadiness, safety, and ease. Through intentional movement, calming breath practices, gentle strengthening, and restorative poses, participants create room to release built-up tension, settle mental overload, ease emotional turbulence, and encourage nervous system balance. The aim is to shift from a fight or flight pattern into a more rested, connected state. This is a space for softening rather than striving, with an emphasis on exhaling, unwinding, and remembering what true relaxation feels like. Led by Teresa Biggs, an RYT-500 and advanced yoga teacher, feminine embodiment guide, educator, Reiki Master, and certified practitioner in somatic trauma therapy. She also hosts the Your Cyclical Nature podcast and Womb & Woo Wisdom on Substack, and is pursuing doctoral studies in acupuncture and traditional Chinese medicine while preparing to open a clinical practice. Cycle-Breakers: A Women’s Circle

A monthly women’s circle invites participants to gently unravel patterns like abandoning oneself, giving beyond capacity, and staying quiet while reclaiming voice and self. Together, the group explores what it means to be a cycle breaker, someone who chooses to disrupt inherited suppression, speak up, and reconnect with inner wisdom. Each gathering is held with a trauma-aware, choice-led approach so everyone can move at a pace that feels right. Time together may include guided conversation and reflection, body-based practices with sacred movement, tools for calming and regulating the nervous system, journaling with practices that activate the voice, and mutual witnessing in a caring circle. Themes shift from month to month and can include boundaries, anger, speaking truth, people pleasing, guilt, worthiness, and trusting oneself in an embodied way. No previous experience is needed, participants are welcome exactly as they are, and sharing is always optional. The intention is a place to be seen and heard without pressure to perform or prove anything. Facilitation is offered by Linda Ann, Teresa, and Jenna. Linda Ann brings the hard-earned clarity of eight decades and a commitment to stop putting others ahead of her own identity. Teresa began her cycle-breaking journey two decades ago and is devoted to creating a space where women can reclaim power, voice, and the right to choose themselves, including in honor of women in their lineage who did not have that choice. Jenna is dedicated to spaces where women are truly seen and supported so they can reclaim their voice and truth. Donations of $5, $10, or $15 support the circle.

Turtle Tee-Off Disc Golf Fundraiser

Hosted by the Michigan Amphibian & Reptile Sanctuary (MARS), the Turtle Tee-Off is a bring-your-own-partner doubles disc golf fundraiser that supports the rescue, rehabilitation, and care of Michigan’s native amphibians and reptiles. Set at the Territorial Brewing Company Disc Golf Course, the day welcomes players of all skill levels, whether you are chasing birdies or just out to enjoy the round. Players without a partner can still take part through Cali-style play. Registration is limited to 108 players, or 54 teams, with up to three teams per card to keep things smooth and social. Along the way, participants can compete for prizes in Closest to the Pin and Longest Putt contests made possible by sponsors. After the final putts, the fundraiser continues with a live outdoor set by Midwest Smut. A $5 optional ace pot per player will be collected in cash on the day of play. If no ace is recorded, the pot will be awarded via a Closest to the Pin on a hole announced that day. A custom made trophy goes to the first place team, with additional prize packs for the top three teams. Every throw helps MARS give cold-blooded creatures a second chance, from rehabilitating injured native species to rescuing and rehoming domesticated reptiles and amphibians.

The Kevin Prater Band returns to 28 Annual Marshall Bluegrass Festival

The Kevin Prater Band returns to the Marshall Bluegrass Festival with a performance rooted in Kentucky tradition and shaped by decades on the road. Led by Kevin Prater, whose bluegrass journey began at age seven and has reached 49 states and 24 countries, the group centers its shows on authentic bluegrass while weaving in classic country, bluegrass gospel, original songs, and bluegrass takes on vintage rock. Prater is widely recognized for his years with the James King Band, contributing to award-winning recordings that included two Album of the Year honors, along with Song of the Year and Recorded Event of the Year. He also earned a Banjo Player of the Year nomination during his time with The Bluegrass Brothers. The band has performed extensively across the United States and Canada and has been featured at the Blueberry Bluegrass Festival in Edmonton, Alberta. They are completing their first all-original recording, and the lead single Kentucky Mountain Memories reached number six on the Roots Music Charts. On stage, the lineup features Kevin on mandolin with Dalton Smith on guitar, Larry Cadle on bass, Codie Allen on banjo, and Eb Sunders on fiddle. The musicians draw on broad experience, from theater work in Tennessee to formal bluegrass studies and family ties to the James King Band. Every member contributes vocally and on multiple instruments, and the band often shares a bluegrass gospel ministry while touring.
