Breathe And Believe In Yourself / Believe In Yourself And Breathe
A poetry-centered creative workshop for mental wellness invites participants to explore emotional health, identity, resilience, and hope through writing, storytelling, conversation, and spoken word. Presented by Mental Health Through Art, LLC and facilitated at Karma House Community Wellness Center, this interactive experience alternates between two related formats. One session looks at challenges like PTSD, trauma responses, survival, identity, and healing through a military lens and life after service. The companion session considers many of the same themes from everyday life, addressing stress, grief, anxiety, depression, self worth, burnout, relationships, and personal growth. Activities may include performed pieces, guided writing, group reflection, and optional sharing in a supportive setting that encourages honest communication and creative expression. Basic writing supplies are provided. All experience levels are welcome, participation is at your own pace, and there is no requirement to share. The focus is community and creativity used in support of mental wellness rather than a clinical therapy model. Created and led by Thomas Walk, a U.S. Army veteran, Telly Award recipient, nine-time national award winning poet and spoken word artist, Emmy-nominated creative professional, suicide survivor, and founder of Mental Health Through Art, LLC. The workshop fee is $10. Optional add-ons are available, including a handout packet for an additional $5 or a writing journal with handouts for an additional $10.

Downtown Marshall will transform as shops become secret hideaways inspired by the area’s historic spaces. Hosted by the Marshall Retailers Association, this second annual pop-up tasting experience guides participants through ten locations in groups of 15 to 30, using assigned passwords and time slots for entry at each stop. Inside, attendees can expect cocktail tastings, hors d’oeuvres, casino games, photo opportunities, and a souvenir glass, all set to classic speakeasy ambiance. Ben Daniels brings a roots-forward Americana set shaped by years of songwriting and far-reaching influences. While studying audio engineering in Arizona, he chose to pursue music and began crafting songs inspired by Bob Dylan, Robert Johnson, J. J. Cale, and John Prine. Since 2006 he has written material that reflects everyday experiences with an authentic voice. Formed in 2008, the Ben Daniels Band delivers a Michigan-grown sound with Tommy Reifel on bass, Wesley Fritzemeier on drums, mandolin, and fiddle, and George Merkel on guitar. Their musicianship and originality keep each performance distinct from the last. The show at The Franke Center for the Arts features bluegrass roots, strong ensemble playing, and songs that connect.

The second annual Duck Diabetes brings a pair of lively races to downtown Battle Creek to raise funds for people living with diabetes. In the rubber duck race, rubber ducks are released from the Michigan Ave bridge and float to the Old Jackson Street Bridge near Handmap Brewing, with prizes for the first three to finish and no requirement to be present to win. The human inflatable duck race sends participants on duck floats from the Kellogg House to the Old Jackson Street Bridge, a course that takes roughly 30 minutes depending on the tide, with prizes for the top three finishers and attendance required to claim those awards. Look for games, fun, prizes, and more, with ducks available for purchase as well as vendor and sponsor opportunities.

This walk honors loved ones across the community and creates space for hope and remembrance.
