"Calendar Girls"

Southgate Community Players presents the stage play Calendar Girls as the final production of the 25/26 season. After Annie loses her husband John to leukemia, she and her close friend Chris set out to raise funds for a new settee in the hospital waiting room. With encouragement from hospital porter and amateur photographer Lawrence, they convince four fellow Women’s Institute members to pose with them for an unconventional charity calendar. Their efforts quickly capture widespread media attention, bringing sudden fame to the village of Knapeley in the Yorkshire Dales and placing new pressure on Annie and Chris’s friendship. Inspired by the true story of eleven WI members and the 2003 film, the play first opened at Chichester Festival Theatre and went on to become the fastest selling play in British theatre history. This production includes a scene with obscured nudity and is recommended for adult audiences, with viewer discretion advised. The run spans two weekends and includes a Sunday matinee. Opening night features a free Afterglow reception with the cast, crew, and audience, with snacks provided. The production is directed by Breann Blanton, produced by Josie Stec and Sydnee Corbin, with Mike Stec as assistant director. The cast features Lonnie Curi as Chris, Jema McCardell as Annie, Diane Thompson as Cora, Kathy Bedikian as Jessie, Megan Cuthbert as Celia, Cori Carr as Ruth, Wendy Peets as Marie, Chuck Ingram as John, Aaron Martin as Rod, Nathan Vasquez as Lawrence, Kathleen McBee as Lady Cravenshire and Brenda Hulse, Marc Rosati as Liam, and Danielle Penman as Elaine.

Calendar Girls

Southgate Community Players brings Calendar Girls to the stage as the final production of the 25/26 season, telling the story of Annie and her friend Chris, who decide to honor Annie’s late husband by raising funds for a new settee in a hospital waiting area. With encouragement from fellow Women’s Institute members and help from Lawrence, a hospital porter and hobby photographer, they create a nude calendar to spark donations. Their heartfelt plan draws national attention, reporters swarm their quiet village of Knapeley in the Yorkshire Dales, and the sudden spotlight challenges the bond at the center of the effort. Inspired by real events involving eleven WI members who produced a nude calendar to benefit the Leukemia Research Fund and by the 2003 film of the same name, the stage version first premiered at Chichester Festival Theatre and went on to set records as the fastest selling play in British theatre history. This production contains a scene with obscured nudity and is recommended for adult audiences. Viewer discretion is advised. Opening night will be followed by a complimentary afterglow reception with an opportunity to socialize with the cast and crew, and snacks will be available. Directed by Breann Blanton, with producers Josie Stec and Sydnee Corbin and assistant director Mike Stec.

A Flock of Seagulls wsg Dr. DeLorean and the Space invaders

A Flock of Seagulls channels the synth-laced energy of the new wave era, rising from the sleek, style-conscious New Romantic movement to become a fixture on early MTV after the “I Ran (So Far Away)” video took off. Their sound and image left a lasting mark on pop culture, and frontman Mike Score’s sky-high hairstyle remains instantly recognizable. Their catalog features fan favorites such as “Telecommunication,” “I Ran (So Far Away),” “Wishing,” and “Space Age Love Song.”

Yachtley Crew

Yächtley Crëw, a seven-piece band from Southern California celebrated as The Titans of Soft Rock, delivers a nautical-themed Yacht Rock showcase in crisp suits and captain’s hats. Rising quickly in 2017 with sold-out club dates, the group helped fuel the modern Yacht Rock wave and drew the attention of Jimmy Buffett, who signed them to Mailboat Records before their move to Earache and Universal. Expect smooth favorites from the late 70s and early 80s, with selections like Boz Scaggs’ “Lido Shuffle,” Ace’s “How Long,” Robbie Dupree’s “Steal Away,” the Bee Gees’ “How Deep Is Your Love,” and Christopher Cross’ “Ride Like the Wind,” along with singalong staples such as Toto’s “Africa,” Looking Glass’ “Brandy,” and Rupert Holmes’ “Escape (The Piña Colada Song).” Their Seas the Day EP was produced and mixed by Grammy winner Chris Lord-Alge, and it introduced the band’s first original, “Sex on the Beach,” paired with a video featuring a cameo by Mario Lopez and direction by Myles Erfurth. National spotlights include HBO’s Yacht Rock: A Dockumentary, Andy Cohen’s Watch What Happens Live, the Las Vegas Countdown to 2023 on KLAS and KTLA, numerous morning shows and radio programs, coverage on Fox News, and a milestone performance on SiriusXM’s Yacht Rock 311, with additional appearances at charitable events such as the Mario Lopez Golf Classic Tournament. Recent releases include the holiday EP Seas and Greetings, highlighted by “It’s Christmastime,” which reached the Billboard Adult Contemporary Top 40 and the Billboard holiday charts Top 30, and a new Diane Warren song recorded for an album slated for 2025. The lineup features lead vocalist Phillip Daniel (Philly Ocean), drummer Rob Jones (Sailor Hawkins), bassist Chaz Ruiz (Baba Buoy), guitarist Thomas Gardner Jr. (Tommy Buoy), backing vocalist Curt Clendenin (Stoney Shores), saxophone and flute player Paul Pate (Pauly Shores), and keyboardist Matt Grossman (Matthew McDonald).
