Now celebrating its 10th season, this family friendly Grand Rapids tradition fills each week with around 20 food trucks, an artisan village, a lively beer tent, and live music throughout the summer. New this season, public parking is available on the grass directly beside the event space, adding more accessible and additional handicapped spots and placing more parking closer to the action. Biking is encouraged, with bicycle parking set up at the southern entrance. Four heavy bands take the stage for a full night of loud music at the Historic Park Theatre. Doors open at 6:00 PM, with music starting at 7:00 PM and each band performing set times throughout the evening.

Rapid Rhythms’ annual Summer Ball Swing Dance returns with live swing music by the John Shea Trio, a lively competition with cash prizes, and refreshments available. Formal attire is encouraged but not required. Admission is $15, with all proceeds supporting the live music. The event is hosted at Moveir Dance Studio. Recorded at home and in the homes of collaborators, the music is performed under his own name after years in the Michigan scene with projects such as Normal Mode, The All American Funk Parade, Kait Rose’s Fleetwood Mac Tribute, and Paddlebots. The lineup features Calvin Allen on drums, Conor Larkin on bass, Dutcher Snedeker on keyboards, and Ethan O’Brien on guitar. Multi-instrumentalist Micah Bracken joins the bill with songs inspired by dreams and the hazy border between memory and longing. Known for more than a decade with Joe Hertler & the Rainbow Seekers, his work may connect with listeners who enjoy Jeff Tweedy, Elliott Smith, or Daniel Rossen. The Stray, a music and arts cafe in Grand Rapids, provides a performance-forward, listening-focused atmosphere. Craft beer, coffee, wine, and a full dinner menu are available. Bill Kirchen, the Austin-based guitarist, singer, and songwriter nicknamed the Titan of the Telecaster by Guitar Player magazine, takes the stage with the road-tested energy that has long defined his rockabilly-meets-honky-tonk sound. His new album, Cat Out of the Bag, channels a feeling of freedom and the joy of being back on the road after the pandemic. The title track is already out as a digital single. Across the record he widens the palette, from high-spirited cuts like the title tune, the rollicking Honky-Tonk Hellfire, and City Mix with its hillbilly licks, to songs with more reflective tones. His trademark chicken-pickin' finesse, recognized with a Best Country Instrumental Performance Grammy nomination for Poultry in Motion, is on full display. Sister Midnight and Grand Rapids Film Society team up for a night that begins with a live set from Circle Jerks and continues with a big-screen presentation of the cult favorite Repo Man. The program concludes with a question-and-answer session featuring director Alex Cox along with Keith Morris and Zander Schloss. This sci fi comedy from 1984 follows a young punk who joins a repossession crew and gets pulled into the hunt for a Chevy Malibu connected to a hefty reward and a mysterious cargo in the trunk. Directed by Alex Cox, the film runs 92 minutes and is rated R. Circle Jerks took shape in 1979 in the South Bay of Los Angeles when Keith Morris, after co-founding and singing for Black Flag during the Nervous Breakdown era, joined guitarist Greg Hetson, with Roger Rogerson on bass and Lucky Lehrer on drums. Known for songs that hit hard while staying sharp and purposeful, they built a reputation on tireless work and a charged live show, eventually headlining the Olympic Auditorium and appearing in underground staples like Decline of Western Civilization, Repo Man, New Wave Theatre, and The Slog Movie. Their six studio albums include Group Sex, Wild in the Streets, Golden Shower of Hits, Wonderful, and IV, and the band rose as a major headliner through the alternative wave of the 80s and 90s. Between runs, Morris led OFF! and FLAG, and Hetson played with Bad Religion. Longtime bassist Zander Schloss remains in the lineup, and veteran drummer Joey Castillo is the newest member.

GLC Live at 20 Monroe hosts the Happy Together Tour with a bill that includes The Association, The Troggs, Jason Scheff, who served as Chicago’s lead singer from 1985 to 2016, Gary Puckett, The Fortunes, Ron Dante of The Archies and The Turtles, The Vogues, and The Cowsills.
