Family events in Portage, MI

The Little Gym of Kalamazoo is hosting summer camps designed for children ages 3 to 10 who are bathroom independent. Families can choose one, two, three, or all four days within a Monday through Thursday schedule to suit their plans. The cost is $45 per child per day.

Enjoy a hands-on LEGO mosaic building session at BAM Kalamazoo in the Bricks & Minifigs Kalamazoo party room. Participants can drop in during the session, create a small mosaic of their own design to take home, or choose a kit to complete later. Themes are announced shortly before each event, keeping the build a surprise. Admission is $5 per person, and staff will be available to provide guidance. Open to builders of all ages and experience levels.

Lunchtime Live! presented by Lake Michigan Credit Union brings live music, games, food, and plenty of fun to Bronson Park. Each event showcases regional talent on the Rotary Stage on the west side of the park, and this date features Dylan Tolbert. Food and retail items are available for purchase, with food trucks lining South Street and additional vendors set up throughout the park. Admission is free and all community members are welcome.

Local Kalamazoo driver Taylor Sexton will be on site to showcase her car. Visitors can check out the vehicle and meet Taylor in person. The organizers sponsor Taylor and will offer deals on ice cream and food.

Spring Valley Park hosts a free drive-in screening of Jurassic Park (1993) as part of a summer series of three free movie nights. Before the film, enjoy music, face painting, and a Youth Entrepreneur Fair with products for sale from Kalamazoo youth. The screen will be set up on the soccer field at the southeast end of the park. Watch from your car parked on the field, or settle in on the lawn with chairs and blankets. Everyone is welcome.

This weekly gathering at the Storytime Stage features readings of favorite stories old and new. Participants listen to engaging tales and then explore the worlds they inspire through shared imagination. It offers a warm setting for readers and listeners to enjoy stories together.

Practice drawing beloved cartoon characters with instruction from Devon, who leads the classes each Saturday. The cost is $30 for a single session or $100 when purchasing four sessions. No advance registration is needed.
