    Tunes on the Plaza 2026

Peavey Plaza, 1101 Nicollet Mall, Minneapolis · verified Sep 25
    Free

This rescheduled Tunes on the Plaza performance at Peavey Plaza showcases Nikki Lemire in a free concert that is part of a series celebrating local music across genres, from Americana and jazz to soul, hip hop, and more. A classically trained harpist with a master’s degree, Lemire layers expressive vocals over intricate, hypnotic harp accompaniment. She employs modern pedal harp techniques, looping, and electric effects to shape songs that reflect on motherhood, love, and loss. Her sound nods to the folk tradition of Joan Baez, the inventive spirit of Joni Mitchell, and the contemporary pop sensibility of Billie Eilish, bringing together timeless influences and a fresh edge. Presented in partnership with the City of Minneapolis, the Minneapolis Downtown Improvement District, and the Minneapolis Downtown Council, with talent booking facilitated by Ostrom Entertainment LLC.

    Vieux Farka Touré

    Dakota, 1010 Nicollet Mall, Minneapolis
    See details

Nicknamed the "Hendrix of the Sahara," Vieux Farka Touré is a guitarist from Niafunké, Mali, and the son of the legendary Ali Farka Touré. Although his father initially encouraged a military path, Vieux earned his blessing to pursue music shortly before Ali’s passing. He began with drums and calabash at Mali’s Institut National des Arts, then quietly shifted to guitar in 2001. Early collaborations with his father became part of his debut release and are among Ali’s final recordings. During the touring shutdown of 2020 he focused on his craft in a studio he built at his family’s compound, leading to Les Racines in 2022, a return to deep roots and the desert blues tradition he has long explored. That same year he joined forces with Houston psych rock group Khruangbin on a collaborative album that Sir Elton John praised as one of the albums of the year and absolutely wonderful music. With each project he pushes into new territory and strengthens his reputation as a singular, innovative artist.

    Dakota, 1010 Nicollet Mall, Minneapolis
    See details

Two acclaimed Cuban artists come together for a performance of vibrant, cross-cultural music. Pianist Alfredo Rodriguez grew up in a musical household in Havana as the son of a popular singer and television host, and now shapes a Miami-influenced sound that blends Latin pop, timba, salsa, bachata, tango, reggaeton, and bolero. Percussionist and vocalist Pedrito Martinez honed his craft in Havana’s streets through Afro-Cuban folkloric and religious traditions and is a master of the batá drum. Since settling in New York in 1998, he has recorded or performed with Paul Simon, Wynton Marsalis, Paquito D’Rivera, Bruce Springsteen, Rubén Blades, Eddie Palmieri, Dave Matthews, and Sting, contributing to more than 75 albums. A first-call rumbero and a founding member of Yerba Buena, Martinez brings the folkloric pulse, while Rodriguez offers a classical foundation and contemporary flair. Moony

    Underground Music Cafe, 408 N 3rd Ave, Minneapolis · verified Sep 25
    See details

Singapore-raised and now Nashville-based artist Seth Findley, known as moony, brings a genre-bending live show shaped by rich visuals, dense lore, and sing-along choruses cherished by a growing community of fans who call themselves moonies. After releasing and touring his debut album WARNING HIGH CUBE through 2024 and 2025, he solidified his place in Nashville’s independent alternative rock scene and now performs in support of his self-produced sophomore album, William Trimtoe. Drawn from a 19th century Scotch-Irish folktale that evolved into a children’s rhyme, William Trimtoe journeys through consciousness and the tensions of reality, tracing pain, fear, confusion, beauty, love, and wonder. The album unfolds over an hour of alt-rock centered songs that also reach into hardcore, psychedelic textures, electronic elements, intimate singer-songwriter moments, indie colors, and touches of Gaelic folk. A songwriter, producer, and multi-instrumentalist, moony leans into a raw and vulnerable energy that can feel daring and a bit unruly, continuing the world-building of the moonyverse. Before launching this solo chapter, he led the indie rock trio Honest Men as frontman and primary songwriter until their 2022 disbandment.
