    2nd Annual Lavender Challenge

    4001 W 102nd St, Minneapolis · verified Aug 9
    See details

The 2nd Annual Lavender Challenge is a two-day queer and WTNB-centric dodgeball tournament hosted by Minnesota Dodgeball at Jefferson Activity Center in Bloomington, Minnesota. Centered on safety, inclusion, and empowerment, it brings together queer, women, trans, and nonbinary athletes to compete, connect, and celebrate community through the sport. Participation is open to players who identify as part of the LGBTQIA+ community or the women, trans, and nonbinary community. Allies can support the tournament by refereeing or assisting with setup and breakdown. The first day features two Bring Your Own Team foam divisions with six players on court and double elimination. The Open division requires a minimum roster of six with a suggested team size of six to eight, and the Mixed division follows the same roster guidance while requiring at least two WTNB players on the court. Extra players are encouraged to avoid being short-handed, and no replacements are allowed after playoffs start. If turnout is limited, Open and Mixed may be combined, and WTNB players may be male-presenting. Optional single-elimination remix add-ons in cloth and no-sting are also offered, with players drafted into remix teams, no round robin format, and a maximum of 56 participants with a minimum of 28. The second day continues with a community-focused Remix Open Foam bracket using double elimination to help players share the court with new teammates. A WTNB Bring Your Own Team no-sting division is also offered at five on five with double elimination, a minimum roster of five, and a suggested team size of five to seven. If more numbers are needed, this division may shift to a remix format. This division is inclusive of trans men, trans women, and nonbinary players, including male-presenting individuals. Pricing is available for both nonmembers and members of Minnesota Dodgeball. Nonmember rates are $50 per main division, with a $10 fee for either remix add-on. Member rates are $45 per main division, with $5 remix add-ons, and an annual membership is available for $40. Out-of-state participants should use nonmember pricing unless choosing to purchase a membership. Tournament play will generally follow USA Dodgeball rules for foam, cloth, and no-sting. Awards include medals for first and second place, along with a banner and trophy photo. Event information is subject to change and updates will be shared with the community.
