Pulp Comics and GamesAll My Relatives | Mini Workshop Series
Experience 14 weeks of hands-on Indigenous learning at the Children’s Museum of Southern Minnesota, designed for children ages 7 to 12. Each week introduces a new cultural theme through artmaking, storytelling, games, traditional knowledge, and guided activities that honor Dakota traditions while nurturing creativity, curiosity, and respect. Topics include forest animals, dance regalia, beading, traditional tools, Indigenous games, star quilts, dreamcatchers, lodges, sacred foods, buffalo lifeways, drums, seasonal calendars, gardens, and ledger art. Participants handle replica tools, design patterns, build small models, plant seeds, create artwork, and deepen their understanding of the land and its first peoples. Families may attend any or all weeks. The series is sponsored by Minnesota State University, Mankato’s Elementary Education program and made possible by a grant from the Prairie Lakes Regional Arts Council through the Arts and Cultural Heritage Fund, with additional support from the College of Education at Minnesota State University, Mankato, the Blue Earth County Public Library, and the Blue Earth County Historical Society. Guidance comes from a project advisory council that includes Hocąk artists SkyAnne Walker and John Armendariz, Wiinik stone artist Alex Ek, Apache Nation photographer and filmmaker David Clobes, Gwen Westerman and Megan Heutmaker who are Dakota and affiliated with MSU, Mankato, and Jessica Potter of the Blue Earth County Historical Society.

At Country Inn & Suites by Radisson, Mankato Hotel and Conference Center, YWCA Mankato hosts the 53rd Women of Distinction, a flagship celebration honoring women who shape the community, defy expectations, inspire others, and move progress forward. For more than five decades, this gathering has affirmed that women’s leadership and equity matter, and that recognizing excellence is essential. In the organization’s 100th year of advancing equity and empowering women, this edition stands as a legacy moment. The program shares compelling stories, fosters meaningful connections, and welcomes a few well earned standing ovations, delivering inspiration that lasts well beyond the final spotlight. It offers a heartfelt acknowledgment to women who lead and mentor, and to those who build, advocate, organize, innovate, and consistently show up for others. Fifty three years strong, the mission remains bold and necessary, with women’s achievements celebrated clearly and proudly.

At WOW!Zone, a community bowling tournament in memory of Scott Oachs raises funds for BENCHS, the Blue Earth Nicollet County Humane Society. Teams of four or five compete in two games while collecting donations to help animals in need. Teams are encouraged to seek sponsors with a $1,000 goal, and participation is welcome even if that target is not met. The entry fee is $25 per bowler and includes an event T-shirt. Awards recognize the top fundraiser, the most spirited team, and the highest score.
