The band earned a Lifetime Achievement Award at the 2025 Americana Awards at Nashville’s Ryman Auditorium, building on a journey that began with two independent releases, a breakthrough on Elektra with Too Far to Care, and a thirteenth studio album, American Primitive, on ATO Records in 2024. Alongside his work with Old 97’s, Miller has crafted a solo catalog of eight albums, most recently 2025’s A lifetime of riding by night. His creative reach extends beyond music. He has published short stories, essays, and articles in outlets including Rolling Stone, Bookforum, Sports Illustrated, McSweeny’s, The Atlantic, and Salon, and he is the author of two children’s books with Little Brown Young Readers. His podcast, Wheels Off: Conversations about Creativity, has surpassed 200 episodes with guests from across the arts. On screen, he appears in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 and the Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special, performing a song co-written with director James Gunn, and his songs have been featured widely in film, television, and advertising. He also teaches songwriting at The New School in Manhattan, leads the annual Songwriting Is Magic retreat in the Catskills, and has taught workshops at respected programs and institutions around the country.
