Dssolvr DurhamWes Parker and more
Presented by andmoreagain, this night at The Pinhook in Durham, NC brings together Wes Parker with Slow Funeral and Chessa Rich for a dynamic blend of alternative and indie sounds. Parker crafts songs from interlocking parts, pairing rugged guitar and eerie piano with off-kilter chords, DIY beats, and arresting vocals. After co-founding Camp Howard and touring with Stone Temple Pilots and The Backseat Lovers, he stepped out solo with singles like Why Won’t You Pick Up The Phone?, Annie Moore, and Tattoo, followed by the Splinter EP. He later signed to Big Machine and released the Fantom EP, a cinematic set colored by glitchy textures and haunting keys. Slow Funeral, the South Carolina project of Mary Norris, performs as a four-piece that merges 90s alt influences with Americana roots. The debut album Conditions of Trust, made with producer Corey Campbell and supported by regional arts grants, confronts themes of Southern poverty, abuse, patriarchy, heartbreak, queer identity, and healing. The band has shared stages with Slothrust, Babe Haven, owen, Chase Petra, and Pinkshift, and has been selected for arena pre-shows with Weezer, The Flaming Lips, Dinosaur Jr., and Linkin Park. North Carolina’s Chessa Rich adds a lucid, dream-drawn dimension with Deeper Sleeper, written amid years of an undiagnosed sleep disorder that shaped her approach to rest, creativity, and productivity. Recorded at Milan Hill, the album moves through states of consciousness with rule-bending songwriting and intimate, empathetic lyrics, echoing affinities with Fiona Apple, Big Thief, Wye Oak, and Loma. Advance tickets are $16, with day-of admission at $20.

The performance draws on a vivid range of styles, from Latin jazz and R&B to candombe, bluegrass, classical, samba, and rock and roll, aiming to keep listeners perched on the edge of their seats. The ensemble features Joe Troop on electric banjo with a jazz edge, Rebecca Kleinmann on flute, Bailey Newman on viola, Ramon Garcia on bass, and Gaston Reggio on drums.

John Németh brings a powerhouse blend of blues, soul, and harmonica-driven vocals shaped by a journey that began in Idaho, where a friend introduced him to Junior Wells and Buddy Guy’s Hoodoo Man Blues and sparked the formation of Fat John & the 3 Slims. After relocating to San Francisco, he spent two years with Anson Funderburgh and the Rockets while soaking up the classic East Bay Grease vibe of Bay Area groups. A later move to Memphis led to a collaboration with producer Scott Bomar and the Bo-Keys on Memphis Grease for Blue Corn, which entered the Billboard Blues Chart and was followed by a BMA for Best Soul Blues Male Artist and Best Soul Blues Album recognition for the record. He continued with Feelin’ Freaky, produced by Luther Dickinson, drawing from blues and R&B alongside contemporary hip hop and rock and roll, and joined the Love Light Orchestra for a live recording at Bar DKDC, a 10-piece project conceived with Joe Restivo and Marc Franklin. Saxophonists Dexter Moses and Tennishu share the spotlight in a collaborative performance that connects jazz tradition with fresh, modern energy. Moses, a Richmond native now based in the Raleigh-Durham area, is a saxophonist, composer, and educator whose work includes performances and recordings with Branford Marsalis, Delfeayo Marsalis and the Uptown Jazz Orchestra at the Mid-Atlantic Jazz Festival, Joey Calderazzo, Nasheet Waits, Nnenna and Pierce Freelon’s GRAMMY-nominated Ancestars, Lenora Zenzalai Helm at Carnegie Hall in New York, and Igmar Thomas’ Revive Big Band. His self-released 2024 debut, New Perspective, has been well received and presents a mature voice that explores the human experience while honoring jazz roots. He also serves as a saxophone professor at North Carolina Central University and Duke University. Tennishu, a Richmond-based artist with an expressive sound and a genre-fluid approach, bridges the lineage of jazz with modern soul and rhythmic invention. Since joining Butcher Brown in 2017, he has brought a distinctive presence to stages nationally and internationally, helping shape the group’s forward-looking sound with melodic clarity and improvisational depth. His solo projects, More To The Story and More Of The Story, place the saxophone at the center as both narrator and focal point, blending intimacy, power, and storytelling. The band for this performance features Dexter Moses on saxophone, Tennishu on saxophone and trumpet, Garen Dorsey on piano, Butler Knowles on bass, and Kofi Shepsu on drums.
