Recovery Dharma
Recovery Dharma is a peer-led program grounded in Buddhist principles that supports recovery from substance use and process addictions. Meetings include a guided meditation, readings from the Recovery Dharma book, and time to share personal experiences in a supportive space. The approach draws on the Buddha’s Four Noble Truths, recognizing suffering, its causes, the possibility of its end, and the way that leads there, along with the Eightfold Path as a practical guide for wiser living, ethical action, mindful awareness, and focused attention. Participants build the capacity to act with integrity, see reality more clearly, and live with mindfulness as they access their own strength to heal and grow. The spirit of the gathering is reflected in a simple wish for happiness, ease, and freedom from suffering.
Chair Massage
Take a restorative pause in the garden during a wellness event presented with Fayetteville Technical Community College, where massage therapy students, guided by Wendi Wilkey, offer free chair massages as part of their hands-on training. Garden members and day visitors are welcome to participate, enjoying a calming setting while supporting future wellness professionals as they practice their skills. No lengthy appointment is required, making it an easy, refreshing addition to a garden visit. This collaboration celebrates local education and community well-being.
Cape Fear Botanical GardenIn-Person Kindergarten Orientation
This in-person kindergarten orientation covers enrollment requirements. Picture Trivia at the Garden
Picture Trivia brings a garden themed twist to a classic number calling game at Cape Fear Botanical Garden. Instead of standard bingo cards, participants use cards filled with images and mark matches as pictures are called. Play spans six rounds, with opportunities to win items from the Garden Gift Shop. Admission includes two picture cards for each participant, and additional cards are available for $2. The first 20 attendees receive a complimentary packet of seeds collected from the Garden. Prize selections reflect the natural setting, with options such as plants, wind chimes, and distinctive garden decor. Capacity is limited because only a set number of cards are available, so preregistration is recommended. Strolling the pathways before play is encouraged to enjoy the surroundings. The gathering is planned for the Gift Shop Terrace, with the Entry Pavilion or the Orangery available if weather requires a change. Fees are $8 for members and $20 for guests.
