Art Therapy for Cancer Patients

Free art therapy for people affected by cancer is offered in the Cancer Treatment and CyberKnife Center conference room, reached by taking the elevator down from the Cancer Center lobby. On the first Wednesday of each month, the session takes place in the center lobby. Certified art therapist Yael Divon facilitates creative work with a variety of materials, and no prior art experience is needed. Drop-in participation is welcome. For sign-up details or questions, Cancer Treatment and CyberKnife Center patients can call (910) 615-4626 or (910) 615-4435, and Health Pavilion North Cancer Center patients can call (910) 615-3856. Art therapy uses art making and the creative process to explore feelings, ease stress and anxiety, build self awareness, reconcile emotional conflicts, support behavior and reality orientation, and boost self esteem. The emphasis is on the act of creating rather than the finished piece, and it offers another way to communicate when words are hard to find. The goal is to enhance personal well-being and functioning, and this approach is used in many settings to support people facing developmental, medical, educational, social, or psychological challenges. This program is supported by grant funding from the Arts Council of Fayetteville/Cumberland County and the North Carolina Arts Council, a division of the Department of Natural and Cultural Resources.

Glass, Grá, & Saoirse - Stained Glass Workshop with artists Amy and John Rester

Artists Amy and John Rester present a summer themed stained glass workshop inspired by grá, the Irish word for love, and saoirse, meaning freedom and also the name of Paddy's locally produced red wine. In this two hour, beginner friendly class, participants explore the copper foil, or Tiffany, technique from selecting glass and planning a layout to hand foiling and applying patina. Each person creates a graceful teardrop suncatcher about 4 by 6 inches with flowing lines and small diamond accents, choosing favorite colors and textures from premium glass. All materials and tools are provided, and pieces are pre cut and ground for safety. While you work, sample pub style bites prepared by Dave, enjoy a glass of Saoirse, or try an artisanal cocktail tasting from the bar. Before heading out with a finished piece, browse the other artists at Art Attack and receive a small stained glass gift from Amy and John of Ground Truth Glasserie. The price is 57 dollars per person, and all sales are final and non refundable. Amy and John founded Ground Truth Glasserie and have created stained glass locally for several years. They offer classes for beginners through advanced makers using high quality glass made in the United States, have completed numerous commissions, and are planning a future brick and mortar studio in the Fayetteville area.

WoofStock 2026: ROCK the Rescue

Now in its 14th year, this one-night celebration fuels lifesaving work for animals in Cumberland County. Woofstock is the signature fall fundraiser for Fayetteville Animal Protection Society, the county's sole no-kill nonprofit shelter, and it helps keep the doors open and the animals cared for. The evening takes place at Cape Fear Botanical Garden and blends music, food, and community spirit. Guests can enjoy a full BBQ dinner, an open bar, a silent auction, and a 50/50 raffle, with live music by On The Border The Ultimate EAGLES Tribute, a nationally touring act performing two full sets. Mercedes-Benz of Fayetteville serves as the headliner sponsor. General admission is $60 and VIP is $100, with VIP tickets including access to the Tito's VIP Lounge in the Grand Hall and expected to sell out. Sponsorship packages start at $500 and provide exposure before, during, and after the event, reaching more than 500 attendees on the night, over 35,000 social media followers, 10,000 email subscribers, and 5,000 local households by direct mail, and prior Facebook event promotions have surpassed 100,000 impressions.
