2026 Hope in Christ World Changers

World Changers empowers students to become positive change makers in their community by connecting them with leaders, mentors, and peers while building character, competence, and lifelong leadership. Staff, volunteers, and guests engage teens through service projects that help others, conversations with community leaders, and meaningful local outings that blend learning with fun. Participants take part in guided and self-selected reading, including the library’s summer reading program, along with interactive games, core reading and math practice, and enrichment activities designed to strengthen character, study habits, and academic growth. Mentoring relationships offer another caring adult who can provide ongoing support. This program is geared toward a select group of students entering grades 6 through 11, with a supportive and engaging setting that nurtures social, character, and academic development. It seeks students who are eager to learn and grow, serve others, and explore their community. An application is required, followed by student and parent interviews to ensure everyone understands the commitment before selection. Final selections are announced after the interview process.

Train in Usui Reiki Levels 1 and 2 through a two-day in-person certification workshop at R Farm in Gastonia, North Carolina, paired with an additional virtual session. Co-hosted by Alyssa of Soul Path Journey and Jen of Equine Energy Reflections, the curriculum guides new students in channeling healing energy for themselves and for others, with attunements and instruction for both the introductory and intermediate levels conducted on site at R Farm. The setting brings together sacred land, the wisdom of the horses at R Farm, and channeled sound baths offered each full day to cultivate balance, support, and healing in alignment with nature. Downtown Cramerton marks the United States’ 250th anniversary with an evening filled with live entertainment, family friendly activities, and a fireworks finale. The celebration highlights Coming Up Brass, an 11-piece group known for high-energy, danceable songs that stretch from the 1960s to today, featuring bold horns, standout vocals, and a tight rhythm section from seasoned musicians. Local food vendors will offer sweet treats and savory bites, and downtown restaurants welcome diners or takeout. Cramerton functions as a Social District, so beverages may be enjoyed while strolling when carried in an official Cramerton social district cup available from participating businesses. Children can enjoy free face painting, and the night is set to conclude with a fireworks display planned to be larger and longer than in past years. Please be aware that intermittent traffic delays may occur around downtown during the day’s activities.

mc chris marks 25 years with a live performance featuring Swell Rell and special guest B-Villainous. All ages are welcome. Tickets are $20 if purchased in advance and $25 on the day of the show. A pioneer of Nerdcore, mc chris is widely recognized for the recurring character MC P Pants on Adult Swim’s Aqua Teen Hunger Force, where he also contributed as an animator and writer. His work extends to The Brak Show and Sealab 2021, along with appearances in the Aqua Teen feature film, the video game, and the Aqua Donk Side Pieces video series. He is also celebrating a Marvel inspired album titled King in Black. Collaborations include Talib Kweli, Andrew WK, and Donald Glover, with fans such as Gerard Way, Post Malone, and T-Pain, and his voice was sampled by Run the Jewels for the Aqua Teen movie Plantasm. Touring history includes Reggie and the Full Effect and Ninja Sex Party, performances on the Warped Tour and The Gathering of the Juggalos, an appearance on a GWAR album, and even a Honda commercial. He is a full-time single father to his son, Tony, and lives in Los Angeles.

Gaston 250 parade banners have been up since January to spread the word, and more details will be shared as planning continues.

Fourth of July Celebration

Head to downtown Gastonia for an evening filled with food trucks, a beer garden, vendors, and live entertainment. Children can enjoy a KidsZone at no charge, and the celebration wraps up with fireworks accompanied by pre-recorded patriotic music. Open Water Scuba Training

Get ready to complete the open water dive portion of your scuba certification during a focused two-day training weekend. This registration is for the training weekend only, and the payment collected covers dive site entry and secures your spot. Training is held at Blue Stone Dive Resort, where instructors will meet students in the lobby. You may briefly stop at the entrance to grab a cart for your gear before parking in the main lot. Before the weekend, plan a visit to Sink or Swim Scuba to pick up any rental equipment, finish your training folder and waivers, purchase personal items like a mask, fins, snorkel, and booties if needed, and complete the Blue Stone Dive Resort waiver with the daily entry fee of 28 dollars. All SDI eLearning, including the exam and online waiver, must be completed in advance. If a medical clearance was requested from the online questionnaire, bring the signed approval before getting in the water. The weekend begins with a swim evaluation and confined water skills. After showing proficiency, you will move on to your first open water dive with an instructor and continue developing skills through additional open water dives on the second day. Come prepared with a scrubbed mask, fins, snorkel, and boots, a logbook with the SDI app on your phone for logging dives, your own or rental BCD, regulators, wetsuit, and tanks, plenty of water, snacks and a packed lunch, a towel and dry clothes, sun protection, and a swimsuit. Cash awards are offered in the pork and chicken categories, with $300 for first place, $150 for second, and $75 for third in each. Cramerton Concert Series: Transit Vocal Band

The evening starts with The Magic of A Cappella, an interactive program by Transit Vocal Band created for children and families that explores how to make music using only the human voice. Later, Transit returns to the stage for the Cramerton Concert Series with a performance for all ages, reimagining classic favorites and today’s hits in fresh vocal arrangements. Transit is a quartet of singers who perform without instruments, using vocal percussion, rich harmonies, and live stage technology to create a full-band sound. Their repertoire spans multiple decades, offering something for every listener. Attendees are invited to support local students by donating school supplies. Michael Tracy with special guests Kudzu Jam

Michael Tracy, from Charlotte, North Carolina, has been writing and performing for more than a decade, releasing several albums and developing a sound that blends classic rock, blues, and Americana. Todd, Dave, and Bazz trade both lead and backing vocals to create a broad palette of sound. Therapeutic Yoga for Adults

Experience a gentle Therapeutic Yoga session at the BC@BC Library that blends positional release techniques with classic yoga postures. Designed for beginners, the class welcomes participants with no prior experience. Instruction is led by Jetta Baynard, a Certified Yoga Instructor, Registered Nurse, Certified Holistic Nurse and Licensed Massage Therapist. Please bring a yoga mat or a towel, along with a bolster or pillow, for comfort during the practice.

Open Water Scuba Training

Complete the open water dive portion of your scuba certification during a focused training weekend. Attendance is required on both days. Registration is for the open water training weekend only, and payment is needed to secure a spot. That payment covers the dive site entry fee only. Plan to meet the instructor at Blue Stone Dive Resort. On arrival, you may stop briefly at the entrance to load your gear onto a cart, then park in the main lot, with instructors greeting students in the lobby. The weekend starts with a swim test and confined water skills, then moves into your first open water dive. The second day continues with additional open water dives and skills practice until all requirements are met. Prepare ahead of time by completing SDI eLearning, the exam, and the online waiver before the weekend. If your online medical questionnaire required a physician’s clearance, bring that documentation. Visit Sink or Swim Scuba earlier in the week to pick up any rental gear, complete your training folder and waivers, and take care of the Blue Stone Dive Resort waiver. The dive site entry fee is $28 per day and is paid in advance at the shop. Bring a scrubbed mask, fins, snorkel, and boots, your logbook and the SDI app on your phone for logging dives, a BCD, regulators, a wetsuit, and tanks whether rented or your own. Pack snacks, lunch, and plenty of water, along with a towel, dry clothes, sunscreen or a hat, and a swimsuit.

Families can experience a hands-on showcase of a wide range of vehicles at Harold Rankin Park. Children can get up close to the equipment with opportunities to see and touch. Youth Fishing Derby

A free catch and release fishing derby for children and teens ages 17 and under takes place at Goat Island Park. Recognition is planned for the largest fish, the smallest fish, and the most fish caught. Participants 15 and under do not need a fishing license. Household Hazardous Waste Collection

Safely clear out hard-to-dispose materials at this Household Hazardous Waste collection, available to Gaston County residents. The event accepts common household hazards such as oil-based paint, paint thinners and solvents, insect sprays, weed killers, lawn and garden chemicals, aerosol products, fluorescent light bulbs, motor oil and oil filters, household cleaners, and batteries. Electronic equipment is not collected at these events, as it is accepted daily at the Convenience sites. Proper handling helps prevent pollution of local waterways and soil and protects public health. For latex or water-based paint, mix with kitty litter or sand to solidify. Once completely dry, the can may be placed in regular household trash. For directions, use Highway 279 West, turn at the Citizens Resource Center entrance into Dallas Park, then follow posted signs to the Household Hazardous Waste Center.
