The Mystery of Edwin Drood
FUMC Theatre stages The Mystery of Edwin Drood, a playful musical take on Charles Dickens unfinished novel that invites the audience into the investigation. In the town of Chesterham, the charming Edwin Drood has been murdered, and suspicion falls on several figures, including his rival John Jasper, the worldly Princess Puffer, and the enigmatic Landless twins recently arrived from Ceylon, with the possibility of someone even more villainous. Rupert Holmes solves Dickens open-ended puzzle by letting theatergoers vote on who committed the crime, so the outcome is chosen by the crowd. The story unfolds as a Music Hall Royale presentation by a traveling Victorian troupe whose colorful personas overlap with the roles they play. Directed by Jeff Manus, with music direction by Susan Lisle.
