2026 Hope in Christ World Changers

World Changers empowers students to become positive change makers in their community by connecting them with leaders, mentors, and peers while building character, competence, and lifelong leadership. Staff, volunteers, and guests engage teens through service projects that help others, conversations with community leaders, and meaningful local outings that blend learning with fun. Participants take part in guided and self-selected reading, including the library’s summer reading program, along with interactive games, core reading and math practice, and enrichment activities designed to strengthen character, study habits, and academic growth. Mentoring relationships offer another caring adult who can provide ongoing support. This program is geared toward a select group of students entering grades 6 through 11, with a supportive and engaging setting that nurtures social, character, and academic development. It seeks students who are eager to learn and grow, serve others, and explore their community. An application is required, followed by student and parent interviews to ensure everyone understands the commitment before selection. Final selections are announced after the interview process.

Usui Reiki Levels 1 & 2 Weekend Workshop

Train in Usui Reiki Levels 1 and 2 through a two-day in-person certification workshop at R Farm in Gastonia, North Carolina, paired with an additional virtual session. Co-hosted by Alyssa of Soul Path Journey and Jen of Equine Energy Reflections, the curriculum guides new students in channeling healing energy for themselves and for others, with attunements and instruction for both the introductory and intermediate levels conducted on site at R Farm. The setting brings together sacred land, the wisdom of the horses at R Farm, and channeled sound baths offered each full day to cultivate balance, support, and healing in alignment with nature. Upon completion, participants receive certificates of completion and are recognized as Usui Reiki Level 1 and Level 2 practitioners. Space is limited.

The celebration highlights Coming Up Brass, an 11-piece group known for high-energy, danceable songs that stretch from the 1960s to today, featuring bold horns, standout vocals, and a tight rhythm section from seasoned musicians. Local food vendors will offer sweet treats and savory bites, and downtown restaurants welcome diners or takeout. Cramerton functions as a Social District, so beverages may be enjoyed while strolling when carried in an official Cramerton social district cup available from participating businesses. Children can enjoy free face painting, and the night is set to conclude with a fireworks display planned to be larger and longer than in past years. Please be aware that intermittent traffic delays may occur around downtown during the day’s activities.

Head out on a woodland hike along The Schiele Museum's Nature Trail accompanied by a llama or alpaca. A trained handler guides a half mile walk and shares information about llama and alpaca habits and their connections with people. Each session lasts 30 minutes and includes opportunities for photos and hands-on interaction with the animals. Advance tickets are required and are sold individually. Friends or family can purchase places in the same session, with a maximum of four hikers per session.

To honor America’s 250th birthday, the Gaston 250 Committee is partnering with the Town of Dallas, the original county seat, to host a countywide parade in downtown Dallas. High Shoals is helping promote the celebration. The schedule is planned so families can enjoy the procession and still make time for local fireworks and other Independence Day plans. Gaston 250 parade banners have been up since January to spread the word, and more details will be shared as planning continues.

Fourth of July Celebration

Head to downtown Gastonia for an evening filled with food trucks, a beer garden, vendors, and live entertainment. Children can enjoy a KidsZone at no charge, and the celebration wraps up with fireworks accompanied by pre-recorded patriotic music. The music lineup starts with a local musician, followed by the Bantum Rooster Band performing through the remainder of the event. Pack a lawn chair or blanket so you can settle in and enjoy the show. For vendors, the City of Gastonia will not contact you via social media to request payments; applications and fees are handled only through the secure site linked above.

The Gaston 250 Committee is partnering with the Town of Dallas, the county’s original seat, to celebrate America’s 250th birthday with a countywide parade and a full day of festivities. Free children and family activities take place at the museum, and a concert in Dallas rounds out the celebration. Parade participation is by invitation from the committee and is capped at 125 entries to keep the procession manageable. Invited entrants will line up at the Ingles Market parking lot before the start.

Open Water Scuba Training

Get ready to complete the open water dive portion of your scuba certification during a focused two-day training weekend. This registration is for the training weekend only, and the payment collected covers dive site entry and secures your spot. Training is held at Blue Stone Dive Resort, where instructors will meet students in the lobby. You may briefly stop at the entrance to grab a cart for your gear before parking in the main lot. Before the weekend, plan a visit to Sink or Swim Scuba to pick up any rental equipment, finish your training folder and waivers, purchase personal items like a mask, fins, snorkel, and booties if needed, and complete the Blue Stone Dive Resort waiver with the daily entry fee of 28 dollars. All SDI eLearning, including the exam and online waiver, must be completed in advance. If a medical clearance was requested from the online questionnaire, bring the signed approval before getting in the water. The weekend begins with a swim evaluation and confined water skills. After showing proficiency, you will move on to your first open water dive with an instructor and continue developing skills through additional open water dives on the second day. Come prepared with a scrubbed mask, fins, snorkel, and boots, a logbook with the SDI app on your phone for logging dives, your own or rental BCD, regulators, wetsuit, and tanks, plenty of water, snacks and a packed lunch, a towel and dry clothes, sun protection, and a swimsuit. An amateur barbecue cook-off welcomes up to 20 contestants. Participation is for amateurs only, and the event encourages involvement from local artists. Contestants will set up in the lot and present entries for judging in pulled pork, chicken, and sauce. The entry fee is $75. Cash awards are offered in the pork and chicken categories, with $300 for first place, $150 for second, and $75 for third in each. Throughout the day, contestants may sell plates, and all participants will use the same agreed price. Each contestant should provide side items such as chips, beans, and bread. Beverages will be available from The Rooster. Outdoor country music in the lot will feature performances by Possum, Daniel Langdon, and Mikey Black, with another artist to be announced.

Cramerton Concert Series: Transit Vocal Band

A cappella takes center stage for a back-to-school celebration filled with music, family fun, and community spirit. The evening starts with The Magic of A Cappella, an interactive program by Transit Vocal Band created for children and families that explores how to make music using only the human voice. Later, Transit returns to the stage for the Cramerton Concert Series with a performance for all ages, reimagining classic favorites and today’s hits in fresh vocal arrangements. Transit is a quartet of singers who perform without instruments, using vocal percussion, rich harmonies, and live stage technology to create a full-band sound. Their repertoire spans multiple decades, offering something for every listener. Attendees are invited to support local students by donating school supplies. The Cramerton Community Committee and the Town of Cramerton will collect contributions during the event. Those who cannot attend can also drop off supplies or monetary donations at Town Hall or the C.B. Huss Recreation Complex.

Michael Tracy with special guests Kudzu Jam

A live music showcase featuring singer songwriter Michael Tracy alongside Kudzu Jam. Advance tickets are $10 and $15 on the day of the show. Open to all ages. Michael Tracy, from Charlotte, North Carolina, has been writing and performing for more than a decade, releasing several albums and developing a sound that blends classic rock, blues, and Americana. His résumé includes opening performances for artists such as Bon Jovi, Poison, George Thorogood, Styx, Foreigner, Don Felder, Jefferson Starship, the Marshall Tucker Band, Foghat, America, and Bret Michaels, along with recognition through local and regional awards. Kudzu Jam, rooted in Gaston County, features Todd Erickson on electric guitar, David Killian on bass, Ross Bazzle, also known as Bazz the Granddude, on keys, and Jimmy Paschke on drums. Todd, Dave, and Bazz trade both lead and backing vocals to create a broad palette of sound. Their high energy, 70s inspired, jam based sets pull from Bob Marley, Bill Withers, Elton John, Prince, Paul Simon, and the Grateful Dead, with a tasteful mix of originals.
