Downtown Clayton transforms into a soccer-inspired celebration for a massive summer bar crawl that kicks off at Clayton Rocks. Malpass Brothers

The Malpass Brothers bring a heartfelt tribute to classic country, shaped by the LPs they discovered in their grandfather Malpass’ collection. Chris and Taylor built their sound on close-knit brother harmonies and the timeless influences of Hank Williams, Lefty Frizzell, Charlie Pride, Merle Haggard, and the revered duos Jim & Jesse and the Louvin and Wilburn Brothers. They began performing at a young age with their father, Chris Malpass Sr., sharing traditional songs in churches across the southeast and learning directly from the legends they admired. Chris sharpened his craft working with steel guitar legend Don Helms, an original member of the Drifting Cowboys, and later sang and played for Merle Haggard on Haggard’s 000 Martin guitar. Taylor served as lead guitarist in a local band, then joined his brother as the opening act for Merle Haggard for seven years. Their releases include the debut album Memory That Bad, produced by Merle Haggard on Hag Records, whose title track reached number 6 on the CMT Pure Country 12-Pack Countdown. They followed with a self-titled album produced by Doyle Lawson on Organic Records, and a live recording, Live at the Paramount, that showcases the energy of their polished, traditional country show. This performance centers on their unwavering devotion to the golden era of country music, tight sibling harmonies, and songs that honor the roots they cherish.

Ease into the day with a pottery wheel workshop that blends clay, a cozy coffee vibe, and creative focus. Class size is capped at six participants, so everyone receives hands-on instruction and individualized guidance. Beginners are welcome, and those returning to the wheel after time away will find a relaxed, encouraging setting to get back into the groove. For comfort and safety, avoid dangling jewelry, loose sleeves, and flip flops, since studio floors can be slippery. Tie back long hair, and note that very long nails can make throwing more difficult. Wear comfortable clothes and expect a bit of mess, as clay rinses out easily. Aprons are provided, or you may bring a towel. This workshop is open to ages 10 and older, and no prior experience is required. An instructor will help select your strongest pieces for kiln firing. Finished work will be glazed, fired, and ready for pickup in about 2 to 3 weeks. Seating is limited. No-shows and cancellations within 48 hours are forfeited. The Clayton Chamber of Commerce Economic Development Committee presents the annual State of Economic Development, a forward-looking program centered on the opportunities, challenges, and strategy guiding the region’s path. This year highlights the future of workforce development and the talent pipeline, healthcare and community well-being, infrastructure and transportation, and overall economic competitiveness that positions Clayton for business recruitment and expansion. The program opens with a keynote from Parker Wyatt, Senior Consultant with Global Location Strategies, offering a national view on site selection, business recruitment, and what communities must do to stay competitive. An expert panel then explores these topics in depth, sharing perspectives on plans, emerging trends, and how organizations are adapting to meet current and future needs. The discussion is moderated by Ben Tobin, a Pulitzer Prize winning journalist with the Triangle Business Journal known for coverage of economic development, business growth, and regional trends. After the program, a guided windshield bus tour provides a firsthand look at key development sites, growth corridors, and future opportunities across Clayton. Turkish Lantern Workshop

Explore the art of traditional Turkish lanterns at Pottery Camp in a guided, hands-on workshop. Choose your own design and arrange colorful glass pieces on a glass bulb during the session, then take home the grout and finishing supplies to use after the pieces have dried for at least two hours. When both steps are complete, assemble the lamp with the components provided in the take-home box, and a bulb is included. A limited first batch of lamps is available. All materials are provided in a range of colors. A $35 deposit reserves a lamp and a spot in the class, with a $35 balance due at the workshop for a total of $70. This first session is planned to gauge interest and may lead to a second order.

After adopting a new reading buddy, participants can stay for a group read aloud. Supplies are limited and items are available on a first come, first served basis. Rockin' On Raiford Presents Chad & Christy

Chad & Christy take the downtown Selma stage with an acoustic set of favorites spanning Country, Pop, and Southern Rock. This Rockin' On Raiford concert also features CC Ryders Band and is part of a series supported by a grant from the Johnston County Visitors Bureau. Concerts are held on Raiford Street in Downtown Selma. Bring your own chair, and please note that coolers are not permitted. Downtown Selma is a social district, so get a cup from The Alley, Quantum Toad, or The Vault, fill it with an adult beverage, and enjoy the music.
