This weekend in Marion, NC

At the Berry site near Morganton, North Carolina, participants learn about the location’s history, practice core archaeological techniques, and take part in excavation that brings the past to life. Participation is open to those 16 and older, and youth ages 10 to 15 may attend with a paying adult. No prior experience is needed, and all tools are supplied. The fee is $10 per person. Advance registration is required to take part in the dig, and a confirmation email will be sent with further details, including navigation instructions.

Kristen Toole, a country singer-songwriter from the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina, brings a blend of classic country, 90s country, modern country, and her own original songs. She performs regionally with her band, The Tooleshed, offering a mix that spans timeless favorites and her personal songwriting.

Michael Reno Harrell, an award winning songwriter, published author, nationally known storyteller, and visual artist from North Carolina’s Southern Appalachian Mountains, presents a program shaped by real-life experiences and eight generations of mountain heritage. His stories, songs, and artwork weave the feel of the South with the wider American narrative. Across more than five decades, his career has taken him to forty four states and audiences abroad, and his shows carry a comfortable familiarity while staying sharp and to the point. His work is celebrated by the music, literary, and storytelling communities, with featured appearances at the National Storytelling Festival, a turn as Teller in Residence at the International Storytelling Center, and performances at MerleFest and the Walnut Valley Festival. He also leads workshops in songwriting and storytelling. Tickets are $20 for BAC members and $25 for non members.
