Downtown Newton hosts a festive celebration of Latino and Hispanic American culture with music, dance, food, face painting, piñatas, and a quinceañera parade and contest. An award recognizing an outstanding Latino in Catawba County will be presented. Admission is free for everyone. Attendees are encouraged to wear a jersey or traditional attire from a favorite Latin American country and to bring their own chairs or blankets for seating. Only service animals are allowed.

The Wednesday Night Blues Jam is a blues-centered jam session that welcomes everyone, with no admission charge. It offers a relaxed, community vibe built around a shared love of blues music.

This no cost public event takes place in Bost Memorial Hall at Corinth Reformed Church and welcomes people from every background, with or without a church home. The focus is on families navigating estrangement, a reality that touches roughly one in ten Americans. Topics include common sources of broken relationships such as past abuse or neglect, ongoing conflict, crossed boundaries, clashing values, and disputes tied to divorce, romantic partners, inheritance, or politics. In this talk, Mary offers encouragement to parents who are grieving the choices of their adult children. While acknowledging that parents cannot direct those choices, she points to a different path that includes Christlike love, steady prayer, and compassionate listening. She also speaks to the heavy weight many carry, including guilt, shame, disappointment, and fear, and invites parents to release the urge to fix or rescue, entrusting their sons and daughters to God’s care. The message centers on hope and peace, helping parents love deeply, pray with perseverance, listen with care, and rest in God while trusting Him with their children’s journey.

Downtown Newton comes alive with an evening art hop that celebrates creativity and community. Creative spaces, shops, and food and beverage establishments welcome visitors inside for a walkable experience with artwork on view, live artist demonstrations, and music. There are chances to meet the makers and feel the energy of a growing arts scene rooted in local talent and businesses. October highlights include art-focused activities at 2 Pink Magnolias, 3 Little Birds, Discretion Underground, Libreria, NoCo Arts, and The Rabbit Hole Gifts. Additional spots plan to stay open into the evening, including B-52s, Backstreets, Bernie’s, Brookrise Brewery, Chilangos Tacos N Cantina, El Batan, Geppeto’s Pizza, Mr. Game & Lounge, and Refuge Designs. It offers a friendly way to explore local art, support neighborhood establishments, and connect with the community in the heart of downtown.

Shakespeare in the Park at Southside Park in Newton, NC presents William Shakespeare’s Henry IV Part I, following Prince Hal as he balances riotous escapades with the demands of the crown. Schemes at court, rising rebellion, and the roguish charm of Sir John Falstaff fuel a tale that moves between quick-witted comedy and high-stakes drama as Hal steps toward responsibility.
