Teen Video Game Tournament
A monthly video game tournament in Teen HQ at the Bismarck Veterans Memorial Public Library gives teens a chance to test their skills or discover new titles. Play is organized in a bracket, and prizes will be given out. This program is free for students in grades 6 through 12. For additional information, contact Jennie Archer with Youth Services at the library.
Bismarck Veterans Memorial Public Library - Teen HQFamily Zookeeper Camp
Experience a family-focused camp at Dakota Zoo that lets participants step into a zookeeper’s role for a day. Adults and children work together through hands-on activities that highlight the many responsibilities involved in caring for animals. Examples include making enrichment items for zoo residents, getting a behind-the-scenes look while helping prepare animal diets and learning about health care, and attending keeper-led presentations that focus on individual species. Each registration must include at least one child ages 5 to 18 and one parent or guardian. The fee is $50 per person for non-members and $45 per person for members. Registration stays open until one week before the session or until capacity is reached. For details or to register, contact the Education and Volunteer Coordinator at 701-223-7543 ext. 3 or email educate@dakotazoo.org.
Dakota ZooCoffee Painting Session
Try a creative twist by painting with coffee as your medium. Each artist will complete a 9 x 12 piece during the session. The cost is $30 per artist, and preregistration is available.
Paint Pour Session
Explore acrylic paint pouring with techniques like puddling and dripping. Instead of using brushes or palette knives, the paint is tilted and allowed to move under gravity so color flows smoothly across the canvas without raised texture. Learn the process step by step and create your own 12 x 12 poured painting. Pre-registration is requested. The cost is $35 per artist. Open to all ages, and this is an alcohol free event.
