    Harvest Hike: Walking Trivia

    This family-friendly hike begins at the Visitor Center and concludes at the historic On-A-Slant Village. Along the way, a Park Ranger leads walking trivia that highlights the traditional crops cultivated by the Mandan people. The route is easy to moderate, is stroller-friendly, and welcomes pets that are leashed and cleaned up after at all times. After the hike, participants help harvest the Three Sisters Garden, gathering heirloom corn, beans, squash, and sunflowers grown by the Mandan people for generations. Everything you help harvest can be taken home while supplies last. During the harvest, park staff share how Mandan communities planted, tended, and stored their crops, the tools they used, and how these foods sustained their communities. Bees and other pollinators frequent the sunflowers, so anyone with bee allergies should take precautions and maintain a safe distance. Gardening tools are provided. The schedule is subject to change. Admission is free with an ND State Parks Annual Pass, or a $7 vehicle registration at the park entrance. Passes can be purchased at the park or online.
