    The Cardio and Coffee Trail Running Series returns to Fort Abraham Lincoln State Park with a blend of outdoor fitness and specialty roast coffee. Each gathering begins and ends at the Commissary Gift Shop on Cavalry Square, where a park interpretive ranger leads a unique route and provides maps for an unmarked course on the park’s multi use trails. Expect dirt and gravel surfaces with moderate hills and some uneven ground, which are not suited for strollers. The pace is generally moderate at about 10 to 12 minute miles for roughly 4 miles, with an average running time of 50 to 60 minutes and one or two brief stops to keep the group together. Runners are welcome to follow the ranger’s pace or choose a slower speed that fits their comfort level. After the run, enjoy a tasting of specialty roast coffee on the Commissary Store deck accompanied by a short educational talk from park staff. All ages are welcome, though participants are encouraged to be able to comfortably run a 5K without assistance and to consult a healthcare provider before starting moderate exercise. Wear supportive running shoes, come prepared for dirt, gravel, and grass, and consider bringing a small water container for warm mornings. Restrooms in the Commissary building are available before the run. Weather related cancellations or changes may be announced on social media the morning of the run. Light rain or rain from the previous night may not result in cancellation. This series is free with a North Dakota State Parks Annual Pass, or a vehicle registration fee is required at the park entrance. The event is sponsored by the North Dakota Parks and Recreation Department and Coal Country Coffee Company. Series dates are planned across multiple Saturday mornings and may be subject to change.

During this celestial event, Earth passes between the Sun and the Moon, casting a shadow that can appear reddish orange, often called a Blood Moon. Park staff and members of the Bismarck Astronomy Club will help participants use telescopes, spot constellations, identify planets, and examine lunar craters. Telescopes and binoculars are available, and personal equipment is welcome. Red-light flashlights are recommended to preserve night vision, and regular flashlights should be kept on a low beam. All ages are welcome. Restrooms are available in the Commissary building adjacent to the parade ground.     This family-friendly hike begins at the Visitor Center and concludes at the historic On-A-Slant Village. Along the way, a Park Ranger leads walking trivia that highlights the traditional crops cultivated by the Mandan people. The route is easy to moderate, is stroller-friendly, and welcomes pets that are leashed and cleaned up after at all times. After the hike, participants help harvest the Three Sisters Garden, gathering heirloom corn, beans, squash, and sunflowers grown by the Mandan people for generations. Everything you help harvest can be taken home while supplies last. During the harvest, park staff share how Mandan communities planted, tended, and stored their crops, the tools they used, and how these foods sustained their communities. Bees and other pollinators frequent the sunflowers, so anyone with bee allergies should take precautions and maintain a safe distance. Gardening tools are provided. The schedule is subject to change. Admission is free with an ND State Parks Annual Pass, or a $7 vehicle registration at the park entrance. Passes can be purchased at the park or online.
