Let's Talk About Love
A welcoming conversation space focused on real stories of love, kindness, relationships, and the moments that shape us. Rather than a lecture, this guided gathering invites participants to listen, reflect, and, if comfortable, share personal experiences. It lasts about an hour and a half and is designed to cultivate meaningful connection and a sense of shared humanity. Born from five months of interviews collected for The Heart of Omaha Column, the event brings people together to build on each other's insights in real time. The flow includes a brief welcome, a personal story that sets the intention, and facilitated questions that open into group discussion. Participants may choose to stay a little longer to continue connecting, with the option to play We Arent Really Strangers. Confidentiality is emphasized, and every voice is respected. There is no cost to attend.
Potting Parties!
Start your flower planters early at a potting party where you can bring a container from home or purchase one on site. Pricing varies based on the containers and plants you choose. A reservation is required.
Hispanic Cultural Festival
A free celebration of Hispanic culture featuring art, music, and community. The program offers Spanish-language gallery conversations, cultural presentations, and creative activities for all ages. Highlights include a welcome, a performance by Grupo Raíces de México, gallery conversations throughout the event, a salsa class led by the UNO Salsa Club, and a performance by Nebraska Danzas Venezuela. Hands-on, drop-in stations invite participants to paint a clay cup, design a custom keychain, explore animals from the Spanish-speaking world, and connect with community booths. This event was produced as a service-learning project by three University of Nebraska Omaha Spanish classes taught by Josefa M. Samper Suárez, with support from UNO’s Department of World Languages and Literature and the Office of Engagement. Organizers acknowledge the work of students in Español 3020: Spanish for Heritage Speakers and Español 3020: Spanish Conversation and Pronunciation in the Department of World Languages and Literatures at UNO, and extend thanks to the Service Learning Academy, the Joslyn Art Museum, and participating organizations for their support and collaboration.
Joslyn Art MuseumApril Outdoor Pug Party
An easygoing outdoor meetup at Aksarben Village Dog Park focused on free play for pugs and other short nose breeds. There are no games or contests, just plenty of time for the dogs to run, play, and socialize. It is free to attend, and all pugs, short nose breeds, and their canine siblings are welcome. This simple gathering offers a chance to burn off pug energy and connect with other pug enthusiasts while the dogs do what they enjoy most... play. Sponsored by Buzz Online.
