Rather than a lecture, this guided gathering invites participants to listen, reflect, and, if comfortable, share personal experiences. It lasts about an hour and a half and is designed to cultivate meaningful connection and a sense of shared humanity. Born from five months of interviews collected for The Heart of Omaha Column, the event brings people together to build on each other's insights in real time. The flow includes a brief welcome, a personal story that sets the intention, and facilitated questions that open into group discussion. Participants may choose to stay a little longer to continue connecting, with the option to play We Arent Really Strangers. Confidentiality is emphasized, and every voice is respected. There is no cost to attend.

An easygoing outdoor meetup at Aksarben Village Dog Park focused on free play for pugs and other short nose breeds. Experience AWAKEN, a private, ticketed listening room event built for an intentional night of presence, connection, and reflection. The theme is Let’s Go To The Movies & More, and it unfolds in a dedicated private room at Beacon Hills in Aksarben Village. Jacqueline Monique shares original spoken word and soulful music, joined by special guest Bobby Gadoury on piano, shaping a rich atmosphere that encourages deep listening and feeling. This is a quiet, focused setting rather than a loud concert, and the audience helps shape the mood of the room. Seating is limited to 32 guests to keep the experience intimate. Adults only are admitted, and classy date night attire is preferred. Guests receive table service throughout, with dinner available but not required, and a full bar for those who would rather enjoy drinks. You can remain comfortably seated for the entirety of the program. Assigned seating is provided, and requests to sit with another order are accepted. On street and garage parking are available, and the venue is ADA accessible. Ticket options include one ticket for $30, two for $50, or a table for six for $135, and all tickets include access to the private listening room. There are no refunds, though tickets may be transferred to a future AWAKEN experience. Digital tickets are not issued, and entry is by name at the door.

Their self titled debut arrived in 2019, unveiling songs that weave rock, pop, funk, and folk around an uplifting core. Close harmonies and reflective lyrics explore joy, sorrow, and the tensions of a complicated world, while Fer’s electric guitar on her Fender Stratocaster delivers both agile leads and steady rhythms with striking presence. Admission is $25, and the event is open to ages 16 and older.

Instruction is led by Rhianna Mays, an Energy Transformer and Intuitive, and a Karuna Reiki, Holy Fire, World Peace Reiki Master/Teacher who has practiced professionally since 2016 and taught since 2017. The Black Angels take the stage at Slowdown’s Main Room alongside L.A. Witch. Marking the 20th anniversary of their debut album, Passover, the band will play the record in its entirety and mix in favorites from across their catalog. Formed in Austin, Texas and featuring Alex Maas, Christian Bland, Stephanie Bailey, Jake Garcia, and Misti Hamrick, The Black Angels helped shape today’s psychedelic rock landscape, drawing on influences like Syd Barrett, Roky Erickson, Arthur Lee, and The Velvet Underground. Their reach extends beyond their own releases as founders of Austin Psych Fest, a gathering for psychedelic, experimental, and underground music. L.A. Witch, the trio of Sade Sanchez, Irita Pai, and Ellie English, blends shadowy Americana and stripped-down rock. Their latest release, DOGGOD, took shape in Paris and was recorded at Motorbass Studio on Rue de Martyrs, pushing into broader sounds and larger themes while retaining the band’s moody, magnetic character. Tickets are $30 in advance or $37 the day of the show, with reserved options at $40 for the Balcony and $50 for Pitside East or Pitside West. Celebrate a day devoted to the Nebraska Humane Society’s well known Cat Bench, the sculptural seat that greets visitors in the lobby near the entrance. Attendees can sit on it or pose beside it for photos, and there is no sign up or cost required. People only. Created by John Kevern and designed in 2003, the bench was donated by the Lundgren family through a fundraiser for the Omaha Children’s Museum and has been a permanent feature of the entryway and lobby ever since. A playful bit of lore surrounds it, with tales of mysterious origins, travelers who come to see it, and good luck said to follow those who touch it or take a picture with it. Visitors are encouraged to treat this piece of Omaha history with care. Photos may be shared on social media with a tag to the Nebraska Humane Society if desired, and while at the shelter, guests can also view adoptable pets, including cats.
