📰 In the news
Artists reunite across mediums: NMSA’s Visual Arts Department presents Homecoming, an Alumni Invitational at the Thaw Gallery, featuring five alumni artists, running Jan. 9 to Feb. 27, 2026, with an opening reception Jan. 9 — get dates and artist lineup.
Co-curated by faculty artists: SFCC Visual Arts Gallery will open Our Home Gardens, featuring 12 New Mexico photographers, Jan. 22, 2026 with a 4 to 6 p.m. reception. The exhibit runs through Feb. 18 — get all the exhibition details.
Classes for all levels: Santa Fe Community College will offer a free 14-week ESL session Jan. 26 to May 7, with in-person classes, evening options at Sweeney Elementary, and free childcare for evening students — see how to register.
Compare rates for free: The national average for car insurance is around $175 per month. Paying more than that? Same, so I did some shopping around and ended up cutting my premium in half. If you haven’t checked in a while, you’re probably overpaying too — here’s the comparison tool I used.
Identity theft is up 25%: Last year, Americans lost $12.5 billion to ID theft & fraud, and the stories behind those numbers are brutal. My friend just told me his dad’s on his fourth replacement credit card. Other folks have woken up to empty bank accounts or their personal info dumped online after a breach. Aura catches these kinds of attacks early by monitoring for new accounts, weird money movements, leaked data, and other red flags so you’re alerted before things blow up — learn more about it here.

🫶 We got your back
Seasonal artisan showcase: String of Lights turns 10 this year, and the holiday market returns Friday, Dec. 12 from 3 to 9 pm at the Santa Fe Railyard Pavilion. Expect 60+ local makers, plus food, drinks, and a photo booth. Bring your gift list and your camera. The vibes will be merry. Get all the details.
Plan your winter schedule: Mark your calendar: SFCC and the Santa Fe Higher Education Center will close for winter break Dec. 20 through Jan. 4, including Kids Campus and the William C. Witter Fitness Education Center. Campuses reopen Monday, Jan. 5 (fitness center at 6:30 a.m.). Spring 2026 registration is open now, with classes starting Tuesday, Jan. 20. Get closure and registration details.
Winter sippers, sorted: When the temps dip, warm up at The Beer Hall at HQ with Adobe Igloo, a winter warmer with cocoa-and-red-chile vibes (no heat). Or settle in with Chicken Killer barley wine, big and malty, perfect after errands or a bracing dog walk.
Thinning hair? Same: I’ve been shedding a lot, and recently noticed my ponytail feeling thinner. After way too much panic-Googling, I decided to take Hers’ online quiz. They recommended a Biotin + Minoxidil green-apple gummy for regrowth and overall hair health. The whole thing was surprisingly easy: just verify who you are and a licensed provider signs off. Here’s the quiz if you want to check it out.
Makeup that actually works: My sister and I were talking the other day about how the makeup we used in our 20s… just doesn’t work now that we’re in our 30s and 40s. Laura Geller’s entire makeup line addresses this shift, with formulas that smooth, brighten, and actually stay put. If you’re in the same boat, their curated kits are worth a look.
