Four Stories in Photography by Michael Donnelly

Strata Gallery presents an Established Member solo exhibition by New Mexico based photographer Michael Donnelly, Four Stories in Photography. Bringing together four separate bodies of work, the presentation explores narrative, place, and cultural memory. Working across film and digital in both black and white and color, Donnelly blends careful formal structure with a strong storytelling sensibility shaped by years in the cinema worlds of Los Angeles and Santa Fe and by time living in Mexico City. One series follows a ten year chronicle of the construction of Frank Gehry’s Walt Disney Concert Hall, shared as printed selections alongside a looping video slideshow of the full fifty image edition. Another looks at the aftermath of September 11 in New York, honoring the people and first responders and the resilience that emerged from tragedy. A continuing project focuses on the American Ranch Rodeo, emphasizing working families and ranch communities that carry forward lived traditions grounded in shared history and community spirit. The exhibition also features a curated group of Southwest landscapes that reflects on humanity’s place in a fragile, dramatic environment and the shared responsibility to care for the land. Donnelly draws inspiration from formal photography masters known for social engagement, poetic vision, and technological craft, aiming to create core images that invite viewers to form their own context beyond the frame. A Santa Fe resident, self taught photographer, and cinema professional, he has exhibited in California, New Mexico, and Mexico City. This exhibition is his first solo show in New Mexico.

Free Lecture: 'BECOMING SOVEREIGN'—Santa Fe, NM

Marconics Initiate Teacher Lucy Barna leads a lecture on moving beyond fear and reclaiming personal sovereignty as a multidimensional being. The talk explores how the density, duality, and separation of the Earth experience can diminish stellar identity and memory, and how karmic patterns processed through a seven-chakra lightbody configuration may keep people locked in a distorted reality. It considers a pivotal choice point for humanity and the importance of remembering one’s purpose with clarity and strength. Topics include releasing fear and separation, progressively integrating higher self identities to restore stellar memory, and returning to a multidimensional ascension path said to have been interrupted in the Fall of Man. The presentation also introduces Marconics Ascension Energy, described as a full-spectrum approach working with an ascending 5D body template to support rapid clearing of karmic debris, activate new DNA potentials, raise vibration, and deepen connection to Source or Spirit. A complimentary sample of Marconics Ascension Energy is included.

2026 Preservation Symposium

Preserving Place: The Santa Fe Continuum is a day-long symposium at the New Mexico History Museum, designed to deepen the conversation around how Santa Fe’s historic character can guide choices about growth and community life. In recognition of Preservation Month, and building on local traditions that honor heritage and building practices, this program brings together civic leaders, architects and builders, developers, preservation advocates, and community voices to reflect on how the past can inform an equitable and sustainable future for the city. The discussions consider what has long made Santa Fe appealing to visitors and new residents, while examining the tensions that can arise when attention centers on the aesthetics of downtown architecture. With revisions to the General Plan and Land Use Code underway, panels explore connections among downtown, midtown, and the southside, as well as growth in the surrounding county. Topics include how the City and County coordinate development, ways to strengthen links across neighborhoods, and issues spanning housing, land use, adaptive reuse, and climate-responsive design. The format features three to four panels and an open forum to encourage broad participation. General admission is $35. Reservations are required in advance. Tickets are not sold at the Museum, and capacity is limited, so seats are expected to fill quickly.

Preserving Place: The Santa Fe Continuum

The Historic Santa Fe Foundation is hosting the Preserving Place Symposium. This event explores the various aspects of Santa Fe that have attracted tourists and new residents for many years, while also examining the disconnect in communication and social cohesiveness that can arise from preserving the aesthetics of downtown Santa Fes architecture. Preservation and its connection to social issues are relevant topics, especially considering the revisions to Santa Fes General Plan and Land Use Code. The symposium aims to explore connections between different sections of town, discuss how the City and County collaborate on development, and improve communication about issues in various neighborhoods. The goal is to encourage discussions about social, planning, development, and architecture-related issues, focusing on housing, development, adaptive reuse, and designing for the New Mexico climate, all while using the preservation of Santa Fes historical character as a foundation. Civic leaders, architects, builders, developers, preservationists, and community members will explore how the citys past can inform an equitable and sustainable future and address land use, growth, and affordability. Student scholarships are available.

Una Más y La ChaCha LIVE at Social Kitchen

Una Mas y La ChaCha brings a live show shaped by Santa Fe’s many roots, drawing from Indigenous heritage, descendants of Spanish and Mexican families, and long-established Anglo communities. The music moves through cumbias, boleros, flamenco, 70s Chicano funk and eclectic covers, all shaped into what the band calls Northern New Mexico soul. A tight rhythm team drives the sound, with bassist Brian Shannon and percussionists Adrian Trate and David Gomez supporting the soaring guitar of founder D’Santi Nava. Vocals from Trate and la Cha Cha Krystle Lucero add a rich, soulful edge. Their performances channel passion and heritage, with moments that invite a dance floor for a Selena favorite, quiet attention for a hymn honoring Quetzalcoatl, and eyes fixed on Nava, known as “el Brujo,” as he races across the fretboard. The result is a shared moment that threads eras, styles and communities into one experience.

The music moves through cumbias, boleros, flamenco, 70s Chicano funk, and inventive covers, all shaped into a style they describe as soul from Northern New Mexico. The lineup includes bassist Brian Shannon, percussionists Adrian Trate and David Gomez, the dynamic guitar work of founder D’Santi Nava, and vocals from Trate and la Cha Cha Krystle Lucero. The group shifts easily from intimate, close-up moments to the high energy that powers large public events. Crowds make space to dance to Selena favorites, grow quiet for a hymn honoring Quetzalcoatl, and watch as Nava, known as “el Brujo,” tears across the fretboard. The result is a performance that bridges eras, styles, and communities.

“Heart in Hand Workshop” with Deborah Mitchell

Create a deeply personal mixed media artwork with Deborah Mitchell at Artful Soul: Creative Experiences in Santa Fe. Drawing on the spirit of the Year of the Fire Horse in Chinese astrology, associated with vitality, freedom, courage, and forward momentum, this hands-on session offers space to reflect at the start of a new nine-year cycle. Begin by tracing your own hand, or the hand of someone dear to you, then build a layered piece with lines, symbols, images, and collage elements that speak to your stories, turning points, dreams, and intentions. Your finished work could serve as a visual autobiography, a tribute, a meditation on what comes next, or a meaningful addition to an altar or personal space. To get ready, bring photographs, letters, postcards, lightweight drawings, fabric, or other meaningful paper items you would like to include, and note ideas or memories in a sketchbook ahead of time. Arrive ready to create and reflect, and let that inner Fire Horse spark set the tone for your next chapter.

Wavves

Wavves brings a raucous, all-ages night to Meow Wolf Santa Fe as the band spotlights Spun, a new album that marks the next phase for Nathan Williams alongside Stephen Pope, Ross Traver, and Alex Gates. After returning with their first new music since 2021, launching Wavvy Supply Co., and playing a Los Angeles wildfire benefit at Zebulon, the group extended the momentum with a deluxe edition of Spun that adds two B-sides and the Live Wavvy Sessions, a set of in-studio performances capturing the band’s raw energy. Those sessions include takes on King of the Beach, Nine Is God, Green Eyes, Goner, and So Long, connecting fan favorites with the latest material. Goner, produced by Travis Barker with a Brandon Dermer–directed video filmed during the charity show, reflects an evolution that still nods to Williams’ roots writing in the Hideaway shed behind his parents’ home. From early DIY releases and the breakthrough of King of the Beach to major-label albums and a return to Ghost Ramp for Spun, Wavves continues to fuse sharp hooks with punk grit. Tickets are $28 plus fees, with $33 plus fees on the day of show. Member and Spotify pre-sales precede the public on-sale. The show is standing room only and welcomes all ages. For ticketing help, contact Meow Wolf at 1-866-636-9969. For ADA accommodations, email help@meowwolf.com in advance. Parking is available at the venue. Alcohol is served, and outside food or drink is not permitted. To streamline entry, the venue recommends leaving items such as backpacks and oversized bags, laptops or tablets, oversized coats, umbrellas, luggage, strollers, skateboards, and professional recording equipment in a car or secured in a locker. Attendees may be photographed or filmed for Lensic marketing or promotional use, and anyone who prefers not to be captured can notify a staff member or an event photographer or videographer.

Transformative Sand Mandala Experience Guided by Monks from Drepung Loseling Monastery

Artful Soul’s annual fundraiser offers a rare, hands on opportunity to learn the sacred art of sand mandala creation with guidance from Tibetan monks of Drepung Loseling Monastery during their Mystical Arts of Tibet Tour. Participants practice a contemplative method of placing colored sand, grain by grain, to build an intricate and meaningful design that invites presence and reflects life’s impermanence. Instruction is accessible to beginners, all materials are provided, and the experience remains rooted in a centuries old tradition. Attendees choose a pattern inspired by the Eight Auspicious Symbols, with options that include the Precious Parasol for protection from suffering, the Two Golden Fish for good fortune, fertility, and abundance, the Endless Knot for the interconnection of all things, and the Treasure Vase for an endless flow of longevity, prosperity, and wisdom. The class concludes with a traditional dissolution ceremony in which the mandalas are gently dispersed, a ritual that emphasizes freedom from attachment and the transient nature of existence. This practice is described as nurturing compassion, deepening awareness, and supporting healing on personal and broader levels. Enrollment is limited to 20 participants, and proceeds benefit the monks, their monastery in Mundgod, India, and their cultural center in Atlanta, Georgia. The event takes place at Artful Soul: Creative Experiences in Santa Fe.

El Agua es Vida

El Agua es Vida, or Water is Life, is a cross-disciplinary performance of theater, dance, live music, and visual art devised and performed by Moving Arts students together with artists from multiple generations. Rooted in the idea of water as a living connection across New Mexico’s land, culture, and community, the work honors those who have fought to protect it, bringing acequia traditions to the Lensic stage. For many participants, Moving Arts serves as a creative home where they collaborate with working artists and mentors while discovering their voices. Preparing for the Lensic involves intensive rehearsals, long hours of collaboration, and the blend of pressure and pride that comes with stepping onto a widely respected New Mexico stage. Alongside choreography and music, students are creating original visual pieces that deepen the storytelling and transform the stage into a vivid expression of their ideas and heritage. More than a showcase, the event offers young people a chance to connect with culture, build confidence, and take pride in where they come from. It highlights resilience and belonging through many art forms and includes a preview of an upcoming documentary featuring Moving Arts.
