Bringing together work developed over more than two decades, the presentation features five series titled Prism, Musubi, Auspicious 8, Frill, and FLY. Recent works pair bamboo with elements such as gold, reflecting an approach that seeks to reveal the beauty of bamboo in unexpected ways. An artist talk is planned in connection with the exhibition.

Sixth Annual Group Exhibition by Strata Gallery Members

The sixth annual group exhibition by Strata Gallery members brings together new and recent work from artists across the United States, spanning photography, painting, collage, and mixed media to explore memory, identity, perception, and a world in flux. Featured artists include Brianna Tadeo (NM), C.J. Rosenthal (NM), claudia hermano (NM), Cody Kamrowski (CA), David Olivant (NM), Diana Noh (IL), Elaine Duncan (NM), Frank Trocino (NM), Jeannine Spooner Kitzhaber (MN), Jennifer Van (CA), Lita Kenyon (WA), Michael Donnelly (NM), and Taylor Thomas (CA). Several artists consider how the self is formed and represented, with claudia hermano addressing intersections of race, gender, and the body, Taylor Thomas drawing on archival materials and cultural memory to reflect on Black interior life, Diana Noh reworking photographs to engage displacement, vulnerability, and repair, and Jennifer Van photographing personal spaces and landmarks to contemplate memory and preservation. Others turn to human connections with the natural and built environment, as C.J. Rosenthal examines ecological precarity and human vulnerability, Jeannine Spooner Kitzhaber responds to landscapes reshaped by suburban growth using reclaimed materials that carry traces of place and history, and Cody Kamrowski elevates everyday scenes through carefully structured compositions. Process and material experimentation are central throughout, with Brianna Tadeo embracing the impermanence of analog photography through light, decay, and fragmentation, Elaine Duncan approaching painting through gesture, texture, and spontaneity, Lita Kenyon building intuitive layers through scraping and collage, and Frank Trocino channeling architecture, music, and Cubism into rhythmic, structured compositions. Photography is a strong thread, as David Olivant assembles fractured imagery and shifting perspectives to probe psychological uncertainty, while Michael Donnelly’s work reflects decades of looking across varied landscapes. Presented by a 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to showcasing work for its merit rather than market trends, the exhibition includes an opening and a closing reception during its run and offers distinct yet interconnected views of contemporary life that encourage reflection on transformation, connection, and memory.

“Heart in Hand Workshop” with Deborah Mitchell

Create a deeply personal mixed media artwork with Deborah Mitchell at Artful Soul: Creative Experiences in Santa Fe. Drawing on the spirit of the Year of the Fire Horse in Chinese astrology, associated with vitality, freedom, courage, and forward momentum, this hands-on session offers space to reflect at the start of a new nine-year cycle. Begin by tracing your own hand, or the hand of someone dear to you, then build a layered piece with lines, symbols, images, and collage elements that speak to your stories, turning points, dreams, and intentions. Your finished work could serve as a visual autobiography, a tribute, a meditation on what comes next, or a meaningful addition to an altar or personal space. To get ready, bring photographs, letters, postcards, lightweight drawings, fabric, or other meaningful paper items you would like to include, and note ideas or memories in a sketchbook ahead of time. Arrive ready to create and reflect, and let that inner Fire Horse spark set the tone for your next chapter.

Jupiter in Leo Cacao, Reiki & Sound Healing Ceremony

A two-hour ceremony centered on sacred cacao honors Jupiter in Leo, a period associated with growth, self-expression, and opening the heart. The experience begins with a cacao ritual guided by Reiki Master and intuitive healer Sharna Langlais, who shares the plant’s history, properties, and benefits, then leads a blessing to connect with the cacao before serving a light ceremonial dose. For millennia, cacao has been appreciated for its nourishment and for supporting heart-centered awareness when consumed with intention. The second hour invites quiet rest as Sharna offers Reiki to each participant while WalkingStar creates an enveloping soundscape. Drawing on vibration and resonance, sound healing can influence the physical body and support shifts in consciousness, helping clear energetic blocks and encourage mental, emotional, physical, and spiritual clarity. Many ancient traditions used sound as a tool for healing, and every system in the body responds to its frequencies. Sharna works with clients internationally using Reiki, meditation, and energy therapy, and is the author of Unexpected Awakenings: Navigating a Spiritual Awakening. She is certified as a Reiki Master, Say It Straight Communication Trainer, herbalist, aromatherapist, and intuitive, and has facilitated groups, workshops, and classes for more than 20 years. WalkingStar has guided sound healing journeys for over a decade and blends tones from Native American flutes, crystal and Tibetan bowls, didgeridoo, rattles, and other instruments, drawing on more than two decades of experience with the Native American flute.

Sixth Annual Group Exhibition by Strata Gallery Members

Strata Gallery presents its sixth annual group show, bringing together new and recent work by member artists from across the United States. This summer exhibition highlights the breadth and vitality of the Strata community, with photography, painting, collage, and mixed media exploring memory, identity, perception, and a rapidly changing world. Several artists look inward to questions of self and representation. claudia hermano considers race, gender, and embodiment, Taylor Thomas reflects on representation and aspects of Black interior life through archival materials and cultural memory, Diana Noh reconfigures photographs to navigate displacement, vulnerability, and repair, and Jennifer Van’s images focus on preservation, remembrance, and the emotional pull of personal spaces and landmarks. Others turn to the natural and built environments. C. J. Rosenthal addresses ecological instability and human fragility, Jeannine Spooner Kitzhaber responds to shifting suburban landscapes with reclaimed materials that carry traces of place and history, and Cody Kamrowski elevates quiet moments of contemporary life through carefully composed scenes. Process and material experimentation take center stage. Brianna Tadeo embraces the impermanence of analog photography shaped by light, decay, and fragmentation, Elaine Duncan’s paintings emphasize movement, texture, and spontaneity, Lita Kenyon’s works evolve through layering, scraping, and collage, and Frank Trocino composes with influences from architecture, music, and Cubism to build rhythmic structure. Photography is a throughline as well, from David Olivant’s fragmented, shifting imagery that probes emotional and psychological uncertainty to Michael Donnelly’s photographs informed by decades of observing landscapes. Founded in 2021 as a nonprofit that prioritizes artistic merit over market trends, the gallery is situated in Santa Fe’s historic plaza. The exhibition includes both an opening and a closing reception, and together these artists offer distinct yet connected perspectives that invite reflection on transformation, connection, and the ways we make meaning today.

Film & Opera in Conversation - The Magic Flute

The Film & Opera in Conversation series opens with a screening of Ingmar Bergman’s The Magic Flute (1975), introduced by director Christopher Luscombe at the Center for Contemporary Arts of Santa Fe. Adapted from Mozart’s enduring opera, the film follows Prince Tamino through trials, love and personal change, set to a celebrated score and layered with symbolism. The film runs 135 minutes and is not rated. Christopher Luscombe began as an actor with the Royal Shakespeare Company before establishing an international career as a director across theater and opera. His productions have appeared at the National Theatre, Shakespeare’s Globe and in the West End, where his work has earned Olivier Awards and nominations. His staging of The Rocky Horror Show has toured worldwide for more than two decades. In opera he has directed for Garsington Opera, Bergen National Opera and Wexford Festival, and this season marks his Santa Fe Opera debut with The Magic Flute. Presented by the Santa Fe Opera in collaboration with the Center for Contemporary Arts, the series explores how cinema and opera intersect. Each film is paired with a production from the Santa Fe Opera summer season, with introductions and conversations featuring members of the creative teams to offer fresh perspectives on stories of love, identity, transformation and human connection.

Wavves

Wavves brings a raucous, all-ages night to Meow Wolf Santa Fe as the band spotlights Spun, a new album that marks the next phase for Nathan Williams alongside Stephen Pope, Ross Traver, and Alex Gates. After returning with their first new music since 2021, launching Wavvy Supply Co., and playing a Los Angeles wildfire benefit at Zebulon, the group extended the momentum with a deluxe edition of Spun that adds two B-sides and the Live Wavvy Sessions, a set of in-studio performances capturing the band’s raw energy. Those sessions include takes on King of the Beach, Nine Is God, Green Eyes, Goner, and So Long, connecting fan favorites with the latest material. Goner, produced by Travis Barker with a Brandon Dermer–directed video filmed during the charity show, reflects an evolution that still nods to Williams’ roots writing in the Hideaway shed behind his parents’ home. From early DIY releases and the breakthrough of King of the Beach to major-label albums and a return to Ghost Ramp for Spun, Wavves continues to fuse sharp hooks with punk grit. Tickets are $28 plus fees, with $33 plus fees on the day of show. Member and Spotify pre-sales precede the public on-sale. The show is standing room only and welcomes all ages. Transformative Sand Mandala Experience Guided by Monks from Drepung Loseling Monastery

Artful Soul’s annual fundraiser offers a rare, hands on opportunity to learn the sacred art of sand mandala creation with guidance from Tibetan monks of Drepung Loseling Monastery during their Mystical Arts of Tibet Tour. Participants practice a contemplative method of placing colored sand, grain by grain, to build an intricate and meaningful design that invites presence and reflects life’s impermanence. Instruction is accessible to beginners, all materials are provided, and the experience remains rooted in a centuries old tradition. Attendees choose a pattern inspired by the Eight Auspicious Symbols, with options that include the Precious Parasol for protection from suffering, the Two Golden Fish for good fortune, fertility, and abundance, the Endless Knot for the interconnection of all things, and the Treasure Vase for an endless flow of longevity, prosperity, and wisdom. The class concludes with a traditional dissolution ceremony in which the mandalas are gently dispersed, a ritual that emphasizes freedom from attachment and the transient nature of existence. This practice is described as nurturing compassion, deepening awareness, and supporting healing on personal and broader levels. Enrollment is limited to 20 participants, and proceeds benefit the monks, their monastery in Mundgod, India, and their cultural center in Atlanta, Georgia. The event takes place at Artful Soul: Creative Experiences in Santa Fe.

El Agua es Vida

El Agua es Vida, or Water is Life, is a cross-disciplinary performance of theater, dance, live music, and visual art devised and performed by Moving Arts students together with artists from multiple generations. Rooted in the idea of water as a living connection across New Mexico’s land, culture, and community, the work honors those who have fought to protect it, bringing acequia traditions to the Lensic stage. For many participants, Moving Arts serves as a creative home where they collaborate with working artists and mentors while discovering their voices. Preparing for the Lensic involves intensive rehearsals, long hours of collaboration, and the blend of pressure and pride that comes with stepping onto a widely respected New Mexico stage. Alongside choreography and music, students are creating original visual pieces that deepen the storytelling and transform the stage into a vivid expression of their ideas and heritage. More than a showcase, the event offers young people a chance to connect with culture, build confidence, and take pride in where they come from. It highlights resilience and belonging through many art forms and includes a preview of an upcoming documentary featuring Moving Arts.
