UHS Trauma & Injury Prevention and Broome County Traffic Safety are offering a free community car seat safety check as part of Child Passenger Safety Week. Certified Child Passenger Safety Technicians will examine installations, demonstrate proper setup and use, and provide hands-on instruction tailored to a child’s age and size. Families can ask questions and receive personalized recommendations to help choose and use the right restraint systems. The team is nationally certified through Safe Kids Worldwide, and approximately ten UHS staff members hold this credential following extensive practical training in child passenger safety. No appointment is needed. This event takes place in the UHS Gastroenterology/Dr. Ramanujan Parking Lot.

Celebrate the season at Binghamton Jellystone Park with its first official fall weekend, a cozy getaway filled with pumpkin themed activities for all ages. Hear the tale of how a magical pumpkin patch was discovered, plant your own enchanted seeds, and ride a wagon out to the patch. Decorate a pumpkin with jack o lantern flair and enter it into a friendly painting contest. Experience the excitement of Pumpkin Chunkin featuring a giant pumpkin catapult, then keep the momentum going with pumpkin races, pumpkin bowling, and other autumn inspired games. It is a warm, family friendly way to enjoy fall and make lasting memories.

A lively day of record breaking centered on jigsaw puzzles is set with three ambitious challenges. Participants will aim to create the largest human jigsaw puzzle piece, gather the most signatures on a puzzle, and set the mark for the most individual contributions to a jigsaw puzzle in eight hours. For the human puzzle piece, 3,000 people are needed to quickly form the shape and hold it for five minutes while aerial photography and judging take place. Instructions on how to line up are provided in registration materials. The formation takes place in the Collier Street Parking lot, followed by an orderly move for most participants to Visions Veterans Memorial Arena. All attendees must wear the purple event T-shirt and badge for admission. The signature attempt is simple. Add a name to the puzzle, with a goal of at least 1,000 signatures. A special guest may be present to announce when the milestone is reached. The contribution attempt features a 40,000-piece Ravensburger puzzle divided into 10 panels and 10 bags across 10 build stations. Each station includes sorting trays, a dedicated build area, and a Puzzle Champion to guide teamwork. To count toward the record, each person places a single piece immediately after the person ahead of them, creating a steady, continuous line of builders working together.
