This benefit barrel race awards points toward the Cambridge Saddle Club year-end awards. It is part of a nine-event series that includes five benefit barrel races and four weeknight jackpots, with results from this race counting toward the overall standings. Awards will recognize top riders in three age groups: Youth up to age 18, Middle ages 19 to 39, and Adult ages 40 and older. This is not a divisional format. Raised in an arts-focused family, he started out in Greenwich Village folk clubs with brothers Harry and Steve as The Chapin Brothers, then began a solo run in 1976 with Life Is Like That, building a reputation for vivid narratives and easy connection. His creative path has included a lead role in Pump Boys and Dinettes on Broadway, music direction off-Broadway for Cotton Patch Gospel and Harry Chapin: Lies and Legends, hosting National Geographic Explorer, topical songs for NPR’s Morning Edition, and a cameo as a vice presidential candidate in the 2004 remake of The Manchurian Candidate. A committed advocate for the environment, hunger relief, social justice and arts education, he describes these times as a call to reinvent while holding fast to the joy of guitar playing, singing and the spark that makes a good song, a strong recording and a memorable concert. Explore the canal landscape through a beginner-friendly outdoor photography workshop at Hudson Crossing Park. Learn to create stronger outdoor images by practicing composition, lighting, focus, perspective, and careful observation, using any camera you already own, whether a smartphone, DSLR or mirrorless model, or a point-and-shoot. No previous photography experience is needed. Participants are invited to notice the interplay of water and light and to photograph the canal’s distinctive features, including locks, bridges, towpaths, and historic structures. A tip sheet from the session is provided to support continued practice afterward. Led by Susan Meyer, an experienced nature photography instructor, multiple award recipient in the annual Erie Canalway National Heritage Corridor photo contest, and author of River Time: Mindful Reflections from the Upper Hudson (2025), the program fosters creative engagement with this unique setting. The session begins with an introduction to key outdoor photography concepts, continues with time to explore and photograph independently at your own pace, and wraps up with informal small-group conversation, optional image sharing, and time for questions. Part of the On the Canals program, it is offered at no cost by the NYS Canal Corporation and the NY Power Authority. It is one of several stand-alone photography workshops at Hudson Crossing Park this season, and participants are welcome to take a single session or return for more. A community paint drop-off at Saratoga Springs High School invites residents to bring leftover coatings for responsible recycling. Greensheen will handle collection of many interior and exterior architectural paints, including latex, acrylic, water-based, alkyd, oil-based, and enamel varieties. Deck and floor coatings, including elastomeric products, are accepted, as are primers, sealers, undercoaters, stains, and single-component finishes such as shellac, varnish, and urethane. Waterproofing sealers and repellents for concrete, masonry, and wood are allowed if they are not tar or bitumen based. Metal coatings, rust-preventive paints, and field or lawn marking paints are also welcome. Containers must be intact, not leaking, and bear the original manufacturer label, and empty containers are not accepted. Items that cannot be taken include aerosol spray cans, paint thinners, mineral spirits and other solvents, automotive or marine paints, art and craft paints, caulks, epoxies, glues and adhesives, paint additives such as colorants, tints, and resins, as well as any empty, leaking, or unlabeled containers. This is a free event, and donations are appreciated.

Participants will observe and practice essential metal fabrication techniques through a mix of demonstrations and assisted hands-on work. After learning the safe and proper use of various equipment, students will select scrap metal to create a sculpture of their own design. Hundreds of participants arrive in imaginative hats, flowing outfits, and broomsticks in hand to wander downtown, dance, and celebrate while supporting local businesses and local rescues. The Witch Way Wanderers, inspired by Germany’s Wolfshager Hexenbrut, pop up with joyful flash mob style routines and sometimes invite onlookers to learn a few moves. Registration and a basket raffle take place on the lower level of the City Center Parking Garage, where wristband pickup comes with a special fifth year enamel pin and a chance to browse raffle items contributed by area businesses and community makers. Performances begin in Flat Rock Park, then continue at spots around downtown into the evening. A Witch Way vendor market curated by The Dark Gem Shoppe adds even more to explore. Proceeds support HOPE Homes for Orphaned Pets Exist, Whispering Willows Wild Care, Operation at Ease, Alfie’s Rescue, and Whiskers Animal Benevolent League. Slate Valley Lanes turns glow bowling into a full live-music experience as RockSlide performs on Lane 12. Expect a high-energy rock soundtrack while you bowl. Each lane comes with three hours of unlimited bowling and shoe rental. The price is $100 per lane for up to eight people, which equals $12.50 per person with a full group. All beers are $4, including domestics and IPAs. It is a mix of bowling, live rock, and brews in a glow bowling atmosphere.

A real-world, hands-on driving school for teen drivers focused on building confidence and control in their own car. Through a full day that blends three classroom sessions with extensive in-car coaching, students learn to manage their vehicle at its limits, apply driving physics, make sound decisions, react more quickly, and anticipate the behavior of other road users. On-course exercises use each student’s car and include skid control on a wet skid pad, quick lane changes for accident avoidance, threshold braking with ABS practice, and a slalom that highlights weight transfer. When conditions allow, the day also features a two wheels off drill and a tailgating exercise. In the classroom, topics include seating and hand position, mirror setup, the tire’s contact patch, the theory of weight transfer, looking far down the road, and overall situational awareness. Discussions address common distractions such as the radio, phone calls or texts, and carrying too many passengers. The thirteenth annual Baker Doubles Tournament returns to Kingpin's Alley Family Fun Center for a competitive Baker-format showdown. Teams enter for 200 dollars, and one out of every six teams earns prize money. Qualifying consists of eight Baker games, with the eight highest teams advancing to a round-robin match-play phase. Each match is a single game, awarding 30 bonus pins to the winner or 15 pins to both teams when the game ends in a tie. Final standings, including the champions, are determined by total pinfall after match play. The champions are guaranteed 2,500 dollars, and the final spot in the prize list pays a minimum of 400 dollars. Payment is required with entry to reserve a spot. Optional side action such as brackets and pots will be offered. Accepted payment methods include cash, credit card, PayPal, and Venmo, and checks are not accepted.

Presented by the Adirondak Bluegrass League at Queensbury VFW 6196 Auxiliary, The Kevin Prater Band brings a program rooted in Kentucky-style bluegrass along with classic country, bluegrass gospel, original songs and bluegrass-infused vintage rock. Bandleader Kevin Prater marks 45 years in bluegrass, a path he began at seven, with performances across 49 states and 24 countries. He spent twelve years with the James King Band, contributing to projects honored with two Album of the Year distinctions as well as Song of the Year and Recorded Event of the Year, and he earned a Banjo Player of the Year nomination during a three-year run with The Bluegrass Brothers. The band features mandolin, fiddle, guitar, bass and banjo. Recent milestones include work on a debut release for Turnberry Records, with the single Kentucky Mountain Memories arriving in April 2024 and reaching number six on the Roots Music Charts in May 2024.

Explore Hudson Crossing Park by moonlight on a guided evening walk that invites a slower pace and a chance to appreciate the gentle shift from day to night. As dusk settles, crepuscular wildlife such as deer, foxes, raccoons, rabbits, bats, and even fireflies are often most active, taking advantage of the evening hours to hunt, hide, and explore. Granville’s family friendly tradition returns for its ninth year as illuminated tractors, firetrucks, ATVs, and more wind through the village to celebrate the holiday season. The parade sets off from Telescope Casual Furniture and concludes at the same spot, creating a loop of lights for all to enjoy. Spectators can watch along the route at no cost.
