    Lala Tamar

    The Falcon, 1348 US-9W, Marlboro
    See details

Lala Tamar blends Moroccan soul with the sway of Brazilian rhythms, creating ancestral songs refreshed by the pulse of gnawa trance and echoes of music passed down from the Atlas Mountains. A singer, dancer, and gimbri player, her name means lady in darija, and she brings a distinctly feminine touch to North African traditions. Known in Marrakech and celebrated worldwide, her music has traveled to festivals and stages across six continents, and her videos have been viewed millions of times, leaving hearts and feet uplifted. Master kora player Yacouba Sissoko shares messages of peace while highlighting West African history and culture. With a 21-string kora rooted in the djely tradition of storytellers who once played for royalty and community leaders, he carries forward songs and narratives that preserve memory, identity, and the rhythms of daily life, turning them into expressions of love, harmony, and empowerment. They are joined by Zachi Asher on oud and guitar and Rich Stein on percussion. Together, they honor song keepers as conduits for their communities and invite listeners into a sacred musical space where beauty, poetry, healing, and dance feel close, and a sense of home knows no borders.
