    Aaron Lee Tasjan

Woodstock · Colony, 22 Rock City Rd

Aaron Lee Tasjan shares the bill with Madeleine Kelson for an evening centered on sharp songwriting and rich storytelling. Tasjan arrives with the momentum of a creative reset that began when he sought guidance from mentor Todd Snider during a bout of imposter syndrome. The exchange spurred a burst of writing, a return to solo shows, and the making of Get Over It, Underdog, produced with longtime engineer Mark Miller. The record celebrates friendship, craft, and the resilience of the long shot, and it doubles as a promise to carry forward Snider’s free-spirited legacy after his passing. Across its tracks, Tasjan leans into vivid ideas and concise forms, from the talk-sung panorama of Science Friction to the punchy indie rock of Lost & Alone, the glam-tinged tension of Twilight Zone Blues, and the coming-of-age portrait in Ballad of an East Canton Lowlife. Guided by Snider’s advice to locate the emotional anchor in each piece, he ties the album together with The Real, a rallying song built on layered voices and a winding guitar line that asks listeners to face hard truths and sing toward healing. Madeleine Kelson brings a Nashville-rooted Americana voice that blends folk and country traditions with a modern, queer perspective. She first found her footing in Chicago with The Kelson Twins, appearing at rooms like House of Blues and Thalia Hall and earning a top Daytrotter Session with Paste Magazine, before moving to Music City as a solo artist. Influenced by Patty Griffin, Jason Isbell, and Brandi Carlile, she was named by NPR as one of 10 Nashville artists on the rise. Her path includes winning the 2017 IBMA Songwriter Showcase, releasing the 2018 EP Siren noted for its spare, emotionally resonant approach, and drawing comparisons to Amos Lee and Gillian Welch. In 2022 she issued her self-produced debut album While I Was Away on Olivia Records, received praise from No Depression, returned to NPR features, and became a Kerrville New Folk finalist. Her single The Way I Do reached more than a million views on TikTok, and her music has appeared on Spotify editorial playlists such as Queer as Folk, Emerging Americana, and Fresh Finds Folk. She continued her momentum with the 2024 EP Where the Spirit Meets the Muscle.

At The Kiva at MaMA in Stone Ridge, NY, traditional Indonesian gamelan fills a circular room with high timber ceilings known for its acoustics and sense of community. Resonant gongs, voice, and flute shape shimmering layers as Sundanese musical traditions unfold, inviting focused listening and a shared feeling of balance. More than a conventional concert, gamelan serves as a communal meditation, with interlocking rhythms and harmonies forming a rich sonic tapestry that welcomes contemplation or a transporting experience. The instruments are Sekar Mawar, the Rose Blossom Gamelan, a red and gold ensemble from Bandung, Indonesia, whose sound thrives in this setting. The program is led by ethnomusicologist Dorcinda Knauth, Ph.D, with performances by AshleyEnright, Sue Kiel, Alex LeTourneau, Chris McWilliams, Alvaro Romao, Annmarie Tedeschi, and Julien Valenstein.

AJ Lee & Blue Summit and more

Woodstock · Levon Helm Studios, 160 Plochman Ln

Levon Helm Studios in Woodstock, NY presents an evening of contemporary bluegrass and roots music with AJ Lee & Blue Summit joined by The Cody Sisters. AJ Lee & Blue Summit formed after its members first connected as teenagers at bluegrass festivals around Santa Cruz, California, carrying that early jam-circle spark into a seasoned, on-the-road career. The group features AJ Lee on mandolin, Jan Purat on fiddle, Sullivan Tuttle on guitar, and Sean Newman on bass. In 2024 they released their third studio album, City Of Glass, on Signature Sounds, followed in 2025 by the covers collection Cover to Cover V.1. That project highlights their wide-ranging influences with guest appearances from Lindsay Lou, Trey Hensley, Ahn Phung, and Kyle Tuttle. Highlights include a rendition of Gillian Welch’s Tear My Stillhouse Down with Lindsay Lou, a California-rooted take on Glendale Train featuring Molly Tuttle and Kyle Tuttle, Sully Tuttle leading the early jazz favorite Who Walks In (When I Walk Out) with Trey Hensley and Ahn Phung, AJ fronting the country classic Takes One to Know One, and former member Scott Gates closing the EP with I’m a Believer, the Monkees hit widely recognized from Shrek. The Cody Sisters—Maddie Cody, Megan Cody, and Will Pavilonis—bring close harmonies, finely crafted songwriting, and a sound shaped by Colorado’s folk and bluegrass community. With Maddie on banjo, Megan on mandolin, and both sharing guitar duties, the duo’s longstanding musical partnership deepened in 2020 when Pavilonis joined on upright bass and vocal harmonies, also contributing to the writing and arrangements. Their self-titled 2023 EP and tours across the United States and Europe marked a period of growth that continues with All the Quiet People, recorded at Vermillion Studios with producer Mike Robinson and engineer Eric Wiggs. The album blends personal narratives and literary inspiration, from a tour memory retold in Collectors on the Run to the influence of author Ocean Vuong on Mother Tongue, all underscoring the trio’s message that every story matters.
