Motherless Mother's Day Dinner

At Mon Coeur Bakery, this reflective dinner offers a welcoming space for anyone missing their mom, grieving, or feeling the weight of the occasion. The focus is on honoring love that remains, with time for comfort, connection, and remembrance. The evening is dedicated to the bakery’s owner, Gabi, who lost her mother in 2004 and created this gathering so no one has to shoulder those feelings by themselves. Mon Coeur translates to “my heart,” a tender phrase her mother often said before goodbyes, and that sentiment guides the spirit of the night. Comfort food sets the tone with plates such as lasagna, a classic roast dinner, meatloaf with garlic smashed potatoes, chicken and waffles, and sloppy joes served alongside baked mac and cheese. Guests are welcome to bring a photograph of their mother, if that feels right, so her presence can be honored at the table.

2nd Annual Flag City Community VetFest

At Findlay-Hancock County Public Library, the second annual Flag City Community VetFest celebrates the nation’s heroes with live music from local bands, food trucks, adult beverages, and displays of military vehicles. The program features tributes for area veterans, recognition of employers that support veterans, and highlights of veteran-owned businesses, with commemorative merchandise available. The event is pursuing community partners to meet a $35,000 sponsorship goal that will help cover stage, lighting, security, and entertainment. Revenue from tickets and merchandise will benefit the Hancock County Wreaths Across America Endowment Fund and the Hancock County Veterans Endowment, which supports a veteran housing initiative. Designed for residents of Hancock County and surrounding communities, it offers a chance to enjoy music and refreshments while showing support for local veterans.
