    Akron Oatmeal Festival

Mustill Store Museum & Trailhead, 57 W North St, Akron · verified Oct 4
    See details

The Akron Oatmeal Festival returns for a second year with a playful tribute to the city’s offbeat spirit and canal era roots, unfolding across Cascade Locks Park around locks 14 and 15 along the Ohio and Erie Canal Towpath Trail. Expect two stages of performances, a community food drive, and a joyous focus on all things oats. The day weaves together arts and food vendors, Goats and Oats, a Quaker themed photo booth, stilt walkers, a magician, local author talks, a conversation about Ferdinand Schumacher, 1800s oat artifacts, play areas, crafts, face painting, the Original Quaker oatmeal cookie, and King of Quaker Oats T shirts. A highlight is the arts forward Parade of Schumachers that starts at the Mustill Store, moves through the grasses, and finishes at the Lock 14 Main Stage, paired with a look alike contest honoring Akron’s Oatmeal King where prizes are awarded and the crowd selects the winner. Live music features Da Land Brass Band, Benny Lava and the Guavas, and Joey Hughes of False Teeth. Community partners including the Akron Canton Regional Food Bank, Akron Children’s Museum, Curated Storefront, Museville, and Nightlight Cinema bring hands on experiences throughout the grounds. The Super Six food drive supports the Akron Canton Regional Foodbank, with boxed cereal, canned soup or stew, canned tuna, canned vegetables, macaroni and cheese, and peanut butter requested, and a festival button offered to donors while supplies last. Launched in 2025 with support from ArtsNow, the festival celebrates Akron’s creative energy and history by elevating local artists, activating Cascade Valley, and spotlighting the legacy of Ferdinand Schumacher, whose pioneering 1850s mill helped propel oatmeal to national prominence.
