    Westside Brick

Emerald Necklace Marina-Cleveland Metroparks, 1500 Scenic Park Dr, Rocky River · verified Sep 27
    See details

A Westside group ride meets in the Rock River Marina parking lot for a short safety briefing before rolling out, weather permitting. If a ride is canceled, the Official CTC Event label is removed. Participation is at your own risk. Only CTC members have USAT supplemental insurance during CTC sanctioned activities, and non-members may take part but may be asked not to ride if they are unsafe. Riders should be comfortable on the road and familiar with traffic laws, and those with less experience are encouraged to complete at least one cycling skills clinic. Helmets are required. Wear bright clothing to increase visibility, and use front and rear lights when possible. Please follow the rules of the road, keep brakes within easy reach by avoiding the aero position, and keep interactions with motorists courteous. Maintain a predictable line without sudden braking or swerves, call out and signal when slowing or stopping, and clearly communicate hazards such as approaching cars, rough pavement, debris, or wildlife. Speak up if you see unsafe riding to help prevent incidents. The ride separates by ability into A, B, C, and sometimes D groups. A is for experienced group riders, building to roughly 20 to 22 mph on the way out and with no set speed limit on the return, and it is a drop ride. B usually rides around 19 to 21 mph. C typically rolls at 17 to 19 mph. D is a no drop option for newer riders or anyone who prefers to stay under 16 mph, with extra attention on paceline and handling skills, although it may not run if turnout is very small. Rides use a single paceline. Take pulls for the agreed distance or time, and if you prefer not to pull, check for traffic and rotate safely to the back on the left. When leading, hold the group’s target speed, and if you need to adjust or drop out, alert the group lead rather than changing the pace at the front. Signal clearly before leaving the line and do so predictably. After the ride, some participants get together for food and drinks. For Westside and Southside emergencies call 440-333-4911, and for other needs use 440-331-5530. Have a safe and enjoyable ride.

Relic: "The Blood of the Rose"

Gartner Auditorium, Cleveland · verified Sep 27
    See details

Relic, a period-instrument chamber orchestra, brings the myth of Venus and Adonis to life in “The Blood of the Rose,” a storytelling concert woven from Baroque music that spans Europe and Latin America. Drawing inspiration from Tomás de Torrejón y Velasco’s La Púrpura de la Rosa, the first opera performed in the Americas, with a libretto by Pedro Calderón de la Barca, the program follows the lovers from their first spark through Mars’s attempts to break them apart to a sorrowful end. The narrative unfolds across five musical chapters, each shaped by brief spoken passages from Calderón’s text, with a special focus on Spanish and Latin American repertoire and works inspired by the Venus and Adonis tale. Music by Torrejón y Velasco appears alongside selections by Roque Jacinto de Chavarría, Juan de Araujo, George Frideric Handel, John Blow, Alessandro Scarlatti, and others. Now in its third season, Relic is known for presenting early music in ways that feel close, creative, and theatrical, earning praise from New York Classical Review for its inventive style. The group’s chapter-based approach welcomes both new and seasoned listeners into a cohesive concert experience. Performing are violinists Aniela Eddy, Kako Boga, Laura Lutzke, Rebecca Nelson, and Toma Iliev, violist Graham Cohen, cellist Cullen O’Neil, bassist Sue Yelanjian, Robert Warner on harpsichord and organ, Daniel Swenberg on theorbo and guitar, and Georgeanne Banker on bassoon and recorder. (NE) Scout Led: Towpath Trail Level 2 & Lunch at Zakee

Zakee Mediterranean Street Food 1562 Akron Peninsula Rd, Akron, OH 44313, 1562 Akron Peninsula Rd, Akron · verified Sep 27
    See details

A scout-led women-only hike explores the Towpath Trail through Merriman Park Valley with a short Valley Link side adventure. Participants meet in the parking lot at Zakee Mediterranean Street Food, then set off toward Cascade Valley, pausing on the bridge for views of the Cuyahoga River, a few photos, and a brief bit of local history from the leader. The route continues along a Valley Link segment, possibly Schumacher Trail, before turning around at an informal halfway point and retracing the path back. Plan for roughly 3 to 4 miles at Level 2, mainly due to distance, with a slightly brisk but manageable pace. Expect some incline in this direction and additional elevation on the Valley Link. Surfaces include paved path, crushed limestone, and some potentially muddy stretches. Restrooms are available before the hike at nearby businesses in the plaza, including a stall inside Michael’s AM, and none were noted on the route during the most recent scouting, so a pre-hike stop is recommended. Wear comfortable hiking clothing and footwear suitable for pavement, limestone, and some mud, and consider a jacket, bug spray, sunscreen, a hat, sunglasses, and a fitness tracker if you like. Bring water, hiking poles if you use them, hand sanitizer or wipes, and a form of payment if you plan to stay for lunch. After the hike, those who wish can have lunch at Zakee Mediterranean Street Food, with build-your-own choices such as meat or falafel, vegetables, optional carb bases, toppings, and sauce. A gluten-free wrap option is mentioned. Pets are not permitted, and this outing is limited to women only, with no men and no children. Girls Who Hike Ohio is a member and volunteer-run meetup group, and participants are responsible for their own preparedness and safety. Check the event the morning of in case weather leads to a cancellation and reschedule.

    Taylor Bickett

Beachland Ballroom, 15711 Waterloo Rd, Cleveland · verified Sep 27
    See details

Taylor Bickett brings her intimate indie pop storytelling to Beachland Tavern. Raised in Indiana and writing songs since childhood, she crafts reflective songs with vulnerable lyrics and a powerful vocal range over organic, melodic production. Her breakout track QUARTER LIFE CRISIS resonated widely, inspiring hundreds of thousands of fan-made videos and tens of millions of streams, with figures like Drew Barrymore and Kevin Jonas sharing their own transformations to the song. She continued with the 2023 EP grown up and lonely, then opened 2024 with I Like Mondays and followed with the EP This Isn’t Me Missing You later that year. In 2025 she released The Crime, addressing violence against women and donating 30% of proceeds to The Circle, the global charity founded by Annie Lennox. That summer she played her first headline shows and toured with Charlotte Lawrence, and she has supported artists including Ron Pope, Christian French, BLÜ EYES, and Brynn Cartelli. Her 2026 single Wild Dogs offers an early glimpse of her debut album. This performance highlights the honest songwriting that has connected with listeners across a generation.
