Antíkoni by Beth Piatote- A Co-production with NPAN and B&B

Beth Piatote’s Antíkoni reframes Sophocles’ Antigone through a Nez Perce perspective, with direction by Jeanette Harrison. Celebrated by People’s World for its powerful Native American retelling of a classic tragedy, this production explores how authority can warp justice while illuminating paths toward resistance and renewal. The story unfolds inside a museum of Indigenous belongings in a future shaped by a nationalist takeover, where a Nez Perce family navigates the pull between contemporary demands and enduring sacred responsibilities. Piatote replaces the traditional Greek chorus with a circle of Aunties whose Nez Perce stories carry humor, wonder, and wisdom across generations, guiding the action and deepening its resonance. This co-production between Native Performing Arts Network and Bag&Baggage Productions is supported by sponsors Charlotte Rubin, James Draznin, and Lorely French, and appears within Bag&Baggage’s 25/26 Season, Roots and Renewals, with season support from Hillsboro Hops and from Pat Reser and Bill Westphal.
