OBOB Book Club: It's All or Nothing, Vale

A teen book club conversation centers on It's All or Nothing, Vale by Andrea Beatriz Arango, a title from the 2026-2027 Oregon Battle of the Books list for grades 6 to 8. The meet-up is free, snacks are provided, and registration is encouraged. Participants should read the book beforehand, and copies are available at the Teen Services Desk at the Main Library while supplies last. Discussion will focus on the story and its themes, not on practicing OBOB questions. Participation in OBOB or placement on a team is not required. Oregon Battle of the Books is an annual competition for students in grades 3 to 5, 6 to 8, and 9 to 12 who read selected titles and compete in fast-paced trivia showdowns with other teams.

Rich Swanger

Chemeketa Cellars pairs its wines with a performance by Rich Swanger. The Oregon-based singer-songwriter draws on folk and country blues traditions, influenced by an upbringing in the Appalachian hills of Pennsylvania. Early experiences singing harmony in church and hearing his father play country classics helped shape his sound. His music has appeared on the Showtime series Shameless, and his song Didn’t Make a Sound won the songwriting contest at Portland’s Folk Festival. Performances are held in the tasting room during winter or very hot weather, and shift to the patio when the forecast cooperates. The menu features student-crafted, award-winning wines alongside beer, cider, nonalcoholic choices, and light bites such as charcuterie and dips for sharing. Seating is limited and available on a first-come, first-served basis. Parties of more than ten may inquire about reserving space with a deposit.

Groups & Meetups

PFLAG Salem Support Group

Gather with the PFLAG Salem support group for a welcoming space that offers resources, understanding, and connection for parents, friends, and family of LGBTQ+ people. The schedule aligns with Rainbow Youth, making it convenient to drop off kids and participate nearby. The group works to keep conversations respectful and encourages everyone to do the same. Because this is a learning space and people are at different points in their journeys, some topics may feel uncomfortable or triggering.
