Salsa Classes

This four-part lineup begins with a beginner and fundamentals class, continues with bachata, progresses to salsa at the intermediate level, and concludes with team practice. It provides a clear path from foundational steps to intermediate technique along with time set aside for group practice.

Reading Buddies

Reading Buddies offers new and emerging readers a welcoming space to build confidence and enjoyment in reading. Each participant is paired with a trained teen volunteer for a 30-minute session that includes fun literacy activities and shared reading in a supportive setting. Volunteers do not provide formal instruction, but they help reinforce the skills children are already learning in school. Elementary-aged readers are served on a first-come, first-served basis. Participants are encouraged to pre-select books at a comfortable level, and a small selection will also be available.

Introduction to Tarot Reading Class

Pink Zeiger leads an introductory tarot reading class at All the Rite Stuff, drawing on nearly seven years of experience as a reader, witch, and pagan. The session covers basic history and core elements of tarot reading using the Rider-Waite-Smith deck, taught with a calm, understanding approach. The cost is $20 per person and capacity is limited to five. Pre-registration is available by calling (971) 352-2335 or by reaching out through Instagram or Messenger.

Teen Food Prep

Explore no-heat cooking designed for teens, with hands-on practice making favorites like guacamole and edible cookie dough without using an oven, stove, or microwave. All supplies and step-by-step instruction are provided by library staff who hold food handler certifications. The program is free and welcomes middle and high school students. Capacity is limited, so registration is required.

Group Class/Pack Walk

This monthly group class and pack walk at Willamette Mission State Park offers a chance to fine tune training or simply enjoy a relaxed walk. New participants can learn what the group is about. Admission is free, and parking at the park is $10. Attendees should bring poop bags, a bowl and water for their pup, and keep dogs on a 4 to 6 foot leash or use an UPK9 slip lead.

Earth Day Planting in the Park

Celebrate Earth Day with a hands-on planting session focused on native shrubs beside the wildflower hillside. The meeting spot is the Greenhouse by Bush House. Participants are encouraged to bring gloves and small hand tools if available, and to wear weather-appropriate clothing.

The Outer Realms Enchanted Night Market

Experience a whimsical evening in the upstairs ballroom of Salem's Historic Grand Theatre and Event Center. Browse vendors, take part in workshops, and enjoy treats while supporting local artists. Costumes and trinkets are welcome, and admission is free. Entertainment features Casper Cant, a sword fighting and boffering demonstration, live music, and storytelling.

Mario Kart Tournament - Salem OR (Free)

Beer Drinkers of America hosts a free Mario Kart tournament at Ratchet Brewery. This is a bracketed competition with four players per console and four races in each heat, with points from those races added together. The two highest scorers in every round advance. The final also features four races, and the player with the top total in that last set is crowned champion. Settings are 150cc, items on Normal, random tracks, and scoring follows the game’s standard system. Matches may take place on different platforms, including Nintendo Switch, Nintendo 64, and Wii. Highland Peace Walk

Neighbors gather for a peaceful walk that promotes unity and raises awareness about community violence in Highland. The walk begins at Highland Park and is open to everyone. Attendees can bring family, friends, and neighbors to share a meaningful experience that strengthens connection and a spirit of peace. More details and reminders will be shared as the day draws closer, all in support of making Highland stronger, safer, and more connected.

4-25-26 Phantom Aria Release Event

Wild Things Games hosts a release event for Gundam GD04: Phantom Aria. This tournament uses a sealed format, and each participant receives four Phantom Aria booster packs to construct a 30 card deck. Entry is $25 and the field is capped at 24 players. Matches are best of one with 30 minute Swiss rounds, and there is no top cut. A BandaiTCG+ account is required. For every entrant, $5 goes into a prize pool that will be awarded to the top finishers at the end of the event.

New Release Launch Party

A community-focused book launch celebrates Life After Ground Zero by George Escalante at the Dye House in the Willamette Heritage Center. The event honors Escalante’s years of service as Senior Chaplain supporting Salem’s fire, police, and dispatch teams, and invites meaningful moments of connection and encouragement. Guests can look forward to a live reading, giveaways, and refreshments. The first 15 attendees will receive a signed copy, and space is limited.

Weekend Jazz

A grand opening celebration features a four hour live set with vocalist Madison Griego, a young singer from the area, together with Ken Anoe, a seasoned bassist from the Portland area. This extended performance brings emerging and long-time talent to the same stage.

Saturday night trivia @ Heroes

Test your knowledge at a lively trivia night at Heroes. A professional host runs the game through the in-house sound system, with questions and scores displayed across nine 55-inch HD TVs and a 130-inch projection screen. Form a team of 1 to 10 players and tackle questions drawn from set categories. Gift certificate prizes go to first, second, and third place and can be used on a future visit, and top teams can try to qualify for the Tournament of Champions. Reservations are required and are handled on a first come, first served basis, and seating fills quickly, so book as soon as possible. Teams must check in 30 minutes before the start or the table may be released. The venue is in the southwest corner of the parking lot in the back, next to State Farms and the laundromat.

Cars and Coffee

This relaxed Cars and Coffee gathering features fresh coffee and a display of cool cars, with all vehicle makes and models welcome.

NPJ Men's & Women's 6's Tourney

An indoor 6-on-6 volleyball tournament for men and women takes place at NPJ Sports Complex, with separate divisions and a 24 team limit evenly split between them. Competition opens with pool play that determines seeding, then moves into a double elimination bracket. Four team pools play a single set to 28 with a hard cap, while three team pools play two sets to 21 with a cap. In bracket play there is no point cap, the winners bracket is best two of three to 21, 21, and 15, and the losers bracket is one set to 25. Rally scoring is used, let serves are allowed, pursuit is not permitted, and standard net rulings apply. Setting the ball over the net may not involve a double contact on the second or third touch. To be eligible for bracket play, each player must have participated in at least one pool game. Teams can secure a spot by requesting entry or completing the registration form, and entries require full payment and a roster or they will be moved to the interest list. Early bird pricing is $180 per team, and the standard fee is $210 per team. Prizes are awarded to first and second place. Free agents are listed for both divisions, and teams are already registering.

Brush & Box Office: Super Mario Galaxy

Presented with At Easel Art, Brush & Box Office pairs a guided painting session with a follow up film. Participants ages 8 and older are welcome, and children ages 5 to 7 may take part with an accompanying adult. After the art activity, the movie Super Mario Galaxy (PG) will be shown, and watching the film is optional. Pricing is $35 for the class plus movie, which includes all art supplies along with a small popcorn and a 20 oz drink for the film, or $25 for the class only with all supplies provided.

This work party centers on garden tasks guided by the Farmer’s Almanac planting calendar. Gardener Bob R plans the work using this guide, with attention to getting beans in the ground during their planting window. Activities focus on practical, hands-on gardening aligned with the calendar.

USSSA Softball City Classic

The USSSA Softball City Classic brings slowpitch action to Wallace Sports Complex in Salem, Oregon. Saturday includes Men’s E, Men’s D/C, and Women’s C/D divisions. Sunday features Coed C/D play. It offers a full weekend of games and spirited competition.

Candlelight: 90s Unplugged

Candlelight sets an intimate scene in The Spinning Room at Willamette Heritage Center for a 90s Unplugged program performed by a Listeso string quartet. Expect acoustic takes on favorites like Everlong, Don’t Speak, Zombie, Ironic, Wonderwall, High and Dry, Enter Sandman, Under the Bridge, Fly Away, Hallelujah, Tears in Heaven, and Smells Like Teen Spirit, all illuminated by the warm glow of candles. The concert lasts 60 minutes, with doors opening 45 minutes beforehand, and there is no entry after the music begins. Seating is assigned on a first come first served basis within each zone. The venue is ADA compliant. The event is open to ages 8 and up, and attendees under 16 must be accompanied by an adult.

6th Annual Blessing of the Bikes

A community blessing for riders and their motorcycles, presented by the Salem Chapter of the Christian Motorcyclists Association, offers a meaningful start to the riding year. Complimentary coffee, hot chocolate, and donuts will be available, along with time to connect with fellow riders. Cycle Gear will be open during the event.

Garden University: Ceramic Mushroom Workshop

At The Oregon Garden, ceramic artist Heather Skinner leads a hands-on workshop on crafting ceramic mushrooms using hand-building techniques. The class welcomes beginners as well as participants with some experience and focuses on clear, step-by-step instruction to build and shape each piece.

Artist Application Deadline for the 77th Annual Salem Art Fair & Festival

Artists interested in participating in the 77th Annual Salem Art Fair & Festival can submit work for consideration. Set in a 100-acre park highlighted by a historic white oak grove in the heart of Salem, Oregon, the fair offers a scenic setting for painters, sculptors, photographers, and mixed media creators. Recognized as a leading arts event in the state, it draws large audiences each year. Applications are open with both early and final deadlines, and this deadline is for artist submissions.

Round Midnight

April is Jazz Appreciation Month. Set inside the Blue Note nightclub one night in 1959 Paris, an aged, ailing jazzman coaxes an eloquent wail from his tenor sax while, outside, a young Parisian too broke to buy a glass of wine strains to hear those notes. The bond they forge leads to a final burst of genius.

Heroes Monday specials

This promotion features complimentary meals for children 10 and under with the purchase of an entree, limited to two free kids meals per family. Pizzas are available two for $20, and all pints are $6.

Janji Demo

New releases are on the horizon with a Janji demo that highlights performance gear. Zoe will share the brand’s story, walk through the gear, and explain why it works well on the run. Raffles will be held, with tickets available in-store before the group heads out. A group run is included, and runners of every pace are welcome.

The Inner Circle: A Girls Group for Tweens

A welcoming group for girls ages 9 to 13 that creates space to connect, grow, and be genuine together. Participants explore everyday pressures such as anxiety, perfectionism, friendships, social media, and self-esteem, with conversations and exercises focused on building confidence and quieting the inner critic. The emphasis is on connection, offering a place to feel understood, supported, and not alone while growing into the best version of oneself. Led by Lauren Smith, CMHC Intern. Cost is $35 per session.

April Class Schedule

April features a weekly lineup of dance classes on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays. On Mondays, Level 1 Night Club 2-Step and Level 1 Ballroom Waltz are offered. Tuesdays feature Variety Level 2 with optional open practice afterward. Wednesdays focus on West Coast Swing with a Beyond Basics session followed by Level 1, and practice time after. Each class is structured as a four-week series for April. A minimum of four couples, or eight people, is required for a class to run. The price is $45 per person for all four sessions in the series, with a discount available for taking more than one class. Support downtown by visiting Venti’s downstairs for a snack or beverage before or after class.

April 2026 Group Classes

On Monday, Nightclub Two-Step, Level 1, is followed by Ballroom Waltz, Level 1. Tuesday offers a Level 2 Variety class with open practice afterward. Wednesday features West Coast Swing with a Beyond Basics session and a Level 1 class, then additional practice.

Legends of Mod 2026

Legends of Mod 2026 presents a slate of racing classes designed for a range of setups. Open 2WD permits any motor, and boost timing is available. There is a 40+ 2WD open mod category that also allows any motor. The Pro 2WD mod class lists motors in the 6.5 to 4.5 range, with a note that nothing smaller than 6.5 is allowed. Rounding out the lineup are 4WD buggy with any motor and stadium truck with any motor.

Salem Capitol Connections

An in-person gathering where Oregon entrepreneurs connect with public and private organizations to build sustainable business relationships and pursue new opportunities. Meetings take place on the last Tuesday of each month.

Paint Nite Brand Creative Events

Fire lookouts have helped detect wildfires for more than a century, and the remaining towers across Oregon now offer memorable hikes with wide-open views and rich history. At Salem Public Library, author Cheryl Hill presents a one-hour talk about her book Hiking Oregon’s Fire Lookouts, highlighting rewarding hikes to these sites, sharing stories from her effort to visit every standing lookout in the state, and explaining how to rent a lookout. A Q&A will follow the presentation. This event is free, and seating is first come, first seated. Supported by the Friends of the Salem Library.

Inner Teachings of the Tarot

Started in 2022, Inner Teachings of the Tarot now welcomes alumni and newcomers to free, lively meetups that explore tarot through fresh approaches. Each gathering offers a mix of exercises, tarot-centered games, and spiritual practice that aim to broaden reading skills. The format departs from typical BC&C activities and skips standard practice readings. Sessions suit readers at any experience level and invite interpretation through intuition, memory, or personal notes. Attendees are encouraged to bring a deck they enjoy reading with, and bringing a second deck is recommended if available. There is no charge to participate. Power to the People: John & Yoko Live in NYC

John Lennon and Yoko Ono’s One To One concerts in New York City brought the John & Yoko/Plastic Ono Band together with Elephant’s Memory and special guests for sold out performances benefiting children with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Across the shows, a combined audience of 40,000 attended and more than 1.5 million dollars was raised, which is about 11.5 million in 2026 dollars. These appearances were Lennon’s only full length concerts with Ono after leaving The Beatles.

Spring 2026 Kids Consignment Sale

Bilingual Piñata Workshop

This bilingual children’s workshop at the library celebrates Día del Niño and Día de los Libros, a Mexican holiday that honors reading, children, and their families. It is designed for elementary students in grades 3 to 5 and their families. Participants will learn about the history of piñatas and decorate a small piñata during the session. Presented by Enlace in partnership with the Salem Public Library. Free, with registration required.

Secrets of Strixhaven Two-Headed Giant Commander Night

Wild Things Games hosts a two-headed giant Commander night themed around Secrets of Strixhaven. Teams of two begin with a paired opening round, then for the rest of the night you can face any other team while staying with your original partner. The entry fee is $5. For the paired round only, $5 in credit from each participant goes into a prize pool, and the winning team in each pod receives $10 in store credit per player. Decks are capped at bracket 3 and must follow the current Commander banned and restricted list as well as the game changers list. Proxies are not permitted.

Science Pub: Molecular Moshpits

At Venti’s Cafe + Beer Vault, this science pub explores how cells stay organized with a presentation by Willamette University’s Professor David Altman, PhD. The talk begins promptly and includes time at the end for Q&A and mingling. Admission is free and attendees of all ages are welcome. Seating can be limited, so arriving early is recommended because previous events have reached standing room only. There is no requirement to purchase food or drinks, although supporting the host by ordering something to enjoy during the program is encouraged. RSVPs help with estimating attendance, and tickets are not required.

Mark Lewis

The Mark Lewis Quartet brings an International Jazz Day performance to Christo’s Pizzeria & Jazz Lounge in downtown Salem. Seattle-based saxophonist, flutist, and composer Mark Lewis leads a set of original jazz. His career spans more than four decades with creative chapters in Seattle, San Francisco, Rotterdam, and Paris, and his catalog now exceeds 1,800 compositions. He has released over twenty albums as a bandleader and has worked with George Cables, Essiet Essiet, and David Friesen, with honors that include recognition in the Jazz Station Awards and the Cadence Magazine Critics Poll. The quartet features guitarist John JB Butler, bassist John Mazzocco, and drummer Chris Lee. Lewis and Butler first met in the Netherlands in the 1980s and later performed together in the Mark Lewis International Quintet alongside musicians from India, Holland, West Africa, and South America. Presented in connection with UNESCO’s International Jazz Day, this appearance offers Salem audiences a way to mark the occasion with original pieces delivered in a melodic, straight-ahead style from an artist praised by Seattle radio veteran Jim Wilke and by Jazz Journal in the United Kingdom.

Seussical the Musical

The high school spring play features Seussical the Musical, bringing characters from Dr. Seuss stories together onstage through music and narrative. Student performers lead the production, and tickets are available with multiple performances scheduled.

Marriott Groundbreaking

A groundbreaking celebration marks the start of a new SpringHill Suites by Marriott in Salem. Local leaders, partners, and community members come together for a lively gathering with food, drinks, and conversation as the project is introduced. The program includes the ceremonial first shovels and an early look at what is planned, highlighting a milestone for a development created with the city in mind.

2026 Salem 13U Spring/Summer

At Salem Golf Club, this PGA Jr. League program welcomes young golfers ages 4 to 13 to learn and play together in a team setting. Participants sharpen their skills, take part in friendly competition within a positive atmosphere, and enjoy the game alongside friends.

LEGO 'Star Wars' Build Event

An in-store LEGO building session inspired by Star Wars takes place at Barnes & Noble. It is recommended for builders ages 10 and up, and attendees of any age are welcome.

Champions

Champions at the Downtown Salem YMCA offers a lively space for teens ages 13 to 18 to connect, have fun, and build skills. Activities rotate and can include swimming, workouts, and video games, supported by one-on-one mentoring and genuine peer support. Snacks and drinks are provided. Participants can explore internship opportunities with the YMCA and may receive a complimentary YMCA membership. Comfortable workout clothes and sneakers are recommended. Family Feud

Gather a team of friends and family for a game that mirrors the classic TV format. A professional host will lead the rounds using on site TVs and a full sound system. Come hungry, with starters and entrees available, and choose from 24 taps plus cocktails and nonalcoholic options. Reservations are encouraged.

High School Spring Play - Seussical the Musical

High school performers present Seussical the Musical, featuring many of Dr. Seuss's well-known characters in a song-filled story. The production highlights creativity and imagination as the cast brings this world to life onstage. Multiple performances are scheduled, and tickets are available.

Yoga Nidra & Kirtan Music Meditation

This welcoming class focuses on music meditation and simple practices for inner calm. Guided segments include gentle chair-based stretches, yogic breathing, Yoga Nidra, and kirtan, a form of mantra and music meditation shared as a way to ease stress and anxiety. Participants receive straightforward techniques they can continue at home or with a group, and the environment is friendly to newcomers. The session is led by Ramai and Alaya, who have offered mantra meditation and kirtan classes in Oregon since 2021 and bring nearly 25 years of personal practice. Their approach is rooted in yoga philosophy and emphasizes supportive, accessible guidance. There is no cost to attend, and homemade baked treats with herbal tea are provided.

Bach & Mendelssohn: Tradition and Transformation

The McKay Orchestras, joined by Jessica Lee of the Oregon Symphony, will perform their 5th annual benefit concert. The program includes Bachs Violin Concerto in A Minor, featuring Jessica Lee, Mendelssohns Hebrides Overture, and more. There will also be a silent auction featuring local businesses. Proceeds will go to benefit music programs at McKay High School, ensuring students have access to instruments and educational experiences.

Unleashed Pre-Rift Event

Wild Things Games presents two Pre-Rift events for Riftbound: Unleashed, giving players a chance to build from special kits and compete across multiple rounds. Each event is capped at 16 participants, and entry is $40 per event. Players receive a Pre-Rift Kit that includes a small prebuilt deck from one of six options, featuring a Champion Legend and a Champion Unit with all required runes. The kit also provides five Unleashed boosters to open and use for construction so decks can be tuned around the chosen Champion. There is a 40 minute deckbuilding period before play begins. Matches are best of three and run for four Swiss rounds. For every participant, $5 in store credit is added to a shared prize pool that is awarded to top finishers based on final standings. Store credit is for in-store use. It can be applied to event entry at an adjusted cost of $52.50 due to a 50 percent increase, and any website orders paid with store credit are cancelled and refunded.

Speaker Series: Historical Preservation

To honor Historic Preservation Month, Charles F. Sams III, an American conservationist and nationally respected voice for Indigenous stewardship of land and water, offers a presentation that explores our collective responsibility as culture-keepers and how preservation safeguards shared history for generations to come. Also known as Mockingbird with Big Heart, Sams is a native of Pendleton, Oregon, and was the first Native American to lead the National Park Service, serving as director from 2021 to 2025. His experience spans public service, nonprofit leadership, and tribal advocacy, including work with the Trust for Public Land, the Earth Conservation Corps, and the Confederated Tribes of the Umatilla Indian Reservation. He currently serves on the Northwest Power and Conservation Council, bringing insight shaped by history, policy, and lived experience at the intersection of conservation and cultural preservation. This program is presented in partnership with the City of Salem and is funded in part by the National Trust Preservation Fund of the National Trust for Historic Preservation.

At Chemeketa Cellars, Story and Tune share harmony-rich folk Americana shaped by the partnership of Aussie singer-songwriter Ben Grace and Californian poet Karyn Thurston. What began as a whirlwind romance quickly became a creative collaboration, weaving her poetry with his melodies into songs that explore love, loss, and belonging with touches of humor and hope. The set features original material and moments that welcome audience sing-alongs, drawing on both classic folk roots and modern Americana. Depending on conditions, the show may be held in the tasting room during the colder season or very hot days, or outside on the patio when the weather is favorable. The tasting room offers wines crafted by students that have earned awards, plus beer, cider, non-alcoholic choices, and light fare. Seating is limited indoors and on the patio and is first come, first served. Large groups can contact the venue to ask about reserving space.

Belly Dancer USA 2026 transforms the Grand Theater into a celebration of dance with a full weekend of classes, stage showcases, shopping, and spirited competition. Workshops run Friday through Sunday with Lebanese Simon, Amel Tafsout, Kaira, and Thorn Trinity, covering Sharki technique and combinations, dabke, North African shimmies, expressive slow work, and advanced veil skills. Join Salem Scuba's July, Open Water Scuba Diver Class

Salem Scuba offers a PADI Open Water Diver class for those ready to earn their first scuba certification. Instruction is led by experienced PADI professionals in a relaxed, supportive setting, and by the end of the course participants gain the skills and knowledge to dive close to home or while traveling. The training combines flexible online study with in-water practice. It features a five-part eLearning component, two pool training days, and an open-water weekend during which the certification dives are completed. Course topics include assembling and using scuba equipment, buoyancy control, respectful interactions with marine life, and approaches for handling common underwater problems. The emphasis is on building confidence and solid dive skills.
