Gettysburg town walking tour, Washington Street 1863 on 11-21 at 1pm

Gettysburg · GettysburgRailway, 106 Constitution Ave

Explore Washington Street as it was in 1863 during a two hour walking tour that centers on the civilians of Gettysburg and the significance of the street’s historic buildings. Drawing on rediscovered first hand accounts from townspeople and the reflections of soldiers who tactically and tragically moved through these streets during three long days in July, the experience connects the present to a pivotal moment in the town’s past. Ken’s enthusiasm and research help bridge those lifelines, bringing the summer of 1863 to life. The route heads toward the college and returns by High Street, with a focus on the people who lived in these homes at the time. The pace is easy on paved roads, and the walk is manageable for wheelchairs. The starting location will be announced. Tickets for carriage, horseback, walking, and car tours are available online or at the Gettysburg Heritage Center. Parking is not available right at the meet up, so consider public options such as the Race Horse Alley Parking Garage behind the Gettysburg Hotel, or use a National Park Service lot and take the Lincoln Line trolley into town.
